"Colin Mitchel" is a deaf person on a crackly phone line writing down Colin MacNeil, who won the 1993 Best Artist for his painted art work, probably in 2000 AD, beating Simon Bisley and Sean Philips

I love all the crime fiction recommendations and comments. Another classic that I'll add is Friends of Eddie Coyle by George V. Higgins.

I'm a huge Clive Barker collector and I can concur that he is basically incredibly talented at whatever he does. He basically shaped horror fiction for a decade, made some iconic movies that people still watch today, created characters that are almost universally known, is a prolific artist with hundreds to thousands of sketches, paintings, photographs. I have almost all of the comics related to Clive Barker, but also some limited prints and an original sketch. If you've never seen his art, it's pretty amazing and imaginative. Probably my favorite creator of all time.

Was lucky enough to have Todd McFarlane sign my Hulk 340 at Boston Comic Con this past weekend. Iconic indeed.

Tragedy Strikes Press was out of Guelph, Ontario - which is where Jay Stephens is from and where Black Eye Press was also from (which is why they picked up Pickle). Black Eye was just resurrected by publisher Michel Vrana and they published another Pickle and are regularly publishing Jay Stephens again!

For my money, Chester Himes is a must-read for fans of crime fiction.

I really appreciate the shout out to transformers generation 2 by Simon furman with art by Geoff senior and Derek Yaniger. I loved that as a kid and it held up as reading it as an adult

Don't know about Manly's Akira story, but issue 37 had a tex and Jo Duffy story. And a Dave Gibbons pin up. Issue 38 had a Larry Hamma and Bret Blevins story along with a Warren Ellis and Terry shoemaker story. Pin ups by Chiarello, Moebius,Moebius, Joe Mad, Pratt, Allred, Romita Sr, Alex Thoth, Kevin O'Neil and John Van Fleet.

My local library had Comic Book Rebels. The only thing I remember about it is that Bissette asks Alan Moore about working Image. Moore says "while we may not agree on things aesthetically, we do agree on how business should be done." Later, of course, we learned that was not quite the case.

Russ Cochran and Bruce Hamilton released a book of Barks paintings back in the early 80's called The Fine Art of Walt Disney's Donald Duck. It was limited when it came out; it's probably unaffordable if you can even find one now. Cochran was a dealer in original art and during the 70's he published a regular slick magazine-sized catalog called Graphic Gallery, distributed I think through the fanzine network and his mailing list. I got several of them in a closeout sale from Bud Plant and they might be considered the most beautiful comics ever published. Cochran only carried the best stuff, so there are comics by Foster, Raymond, Segar, Kelly, as well as later guys ranging from Toth to Corben. The front and back covers were usually full color paintings by Carl Barks, and the one I have that isn't Barks is Frazetta. It's something you occasionally run across at conventions, so you might want to keep an eye out just for the Barks reproductions.

Around 1999, shortly after DC bought Wildstorm, jim lee drew a story in a vertigo title called Flinch. He described as his "european style". I think he said he was originally going to draw Batman in that style but Jeph Loeb talked him out of it saying he wanted the classic jim lee.

Mike Manley taught us at University of the Arts in Philly. He's still in that area --- you guys gotta get him under the mic!

Was able to grab a copy of Rambo 3.5 which was my goal of the entire event, and its hilariousness did not disappoint. Another great episode. Some fun articles! (I'm live editing this comment as I watch). Gotta disagree about the Deathblow comment, Garth Ennis is about as intelligent as an edgy 13 year old with a type writer. That Daredevil costume is...oof. But McDaniel is a great artist. And 90,000 is low? Again, wow! An article on superhero fights is very Wizard. I really don't care for the "who would win in a fight" crap but that there's some cool comics in there. Yeah, I gotta read some more noir/mystery comics. Interesting genre. That Batman costume is horrific. I honestly don't think it's the worst ever but that head junk in that Manley piece? He's a good artist, though. Thanks to you guys, I have been branching out from superhero comics into other genres. Ron Frenz interview was great! It's insane to think about how quickly Image blew up. Not that this has to do with anything specifically in the Wizard, but you guys are the reason I've been diving into quarter/50¢/dollar bins and I've found some cool stuff! Thanks for that!
