Yes, very well done. There's a really easy and FREE solution: Print out the Errata, place it in the back of the book. Go to each change in the book, mark the change and reference the Errata. Done. Up to Date. FREE.

It seriously feels like WotC is either pandering to the people who can't be bothered to read the books in the first place (because all these 'options' were already in place all along) or bending over backwards to please a noisy minority that are oblivious to the history of the game.

@@madaxe606 I think its neither. My theory is that, simply, it means there is less content. That way, when WoTC adds in new options, they wont have to add as much content. If they went "this race has no lore, theme, culture, ASI, and yeah size can be whatever you want you figure those out" before tasha, it would be jarring. This way they are slowly removing content, never adding anything to make up for it, such that new content can be as simple and bland as they want so its easier to write. The "we are doing this to please uwu" is them shifting the blame. Because what they do doesnt make sense with that context. If that were the case, we'd get new content to replace the old ones instead of content simply fading out.

@@carpedm9846 I dunno about that. There are easier ways to save money than by just half-assing the design process for races. This reeks of attempts to stave off the same type of people who railed about 'demons and witchcraft in a game for kids!' back in the 1980's.

I've stopped playing with alignment altogether. I've never had a game be more fun because we argued about alignment, it generally brought things down. If you have good players, you don't need alignments.

@@nicholasmorgan7609 moral alignment also is a gross oversimplification of behavior which I feel like undermines alot of monsters, especially if that monster doesn't have much lore

@@kishin901 There's also the matter of how the DM has final say on alignment matters. One man's opinion maters above all else. So what if the man the captain has captured hasn't done something wrong, if you try to save him, that's a chaotic act and your paladin is already on thin ice. I generally wasn't a fan of alignments but the pathfinder CRPGs made me outright hate them when my paladin lost his class features for one too many "good" acts and not enough lawful ones. But it's an effective educator on their problems. Then there's the matter of the morality of the deities in any given setting, having agreed upon "good" and "evil" means that the evil deities logically should see themselves as evil, even if that's not in character for them.

You also don't need to buy a ton of books for what common sense can have you home brew in an afternoon, but that doesn't stop most people

@@nicholasmorgan7609 I pretty much use alignment for more of a war for my players to understand who's side they are on. So if they enter a place and use detect evil that doesn't mean the people are evil but they are antagonistic to the party and from there view are "evil"

Thank you! Yeah I’m certainly a fan of most of what WotC does, if this one happened as they originally planned as just a special holiday release. Then we moved on to actual new stuff in 2022, I wouldn’t have been that bummed about it. And I know that was not exactly under their control, so no harm done

Really, the only thing that seems to be wrong is the staggered release on this set. Like, gift set, sure, ok. But not releasing the standalone book at the same time? That just screams money grab. Especially because they're *also* delaying the digital release, and there's no way to claim "printing delays" for that.

Here's my DM secret: I just kind of wing it with monster spellcasters. *Shit he doesnt have dispel magic... wait he has 28 intelligence, I don't but he does, so he would have brought it....* "The Archlich sees your spell and laughs at its effects, and casts Dispel Magic"

@@override367 Oh I've done that. But I'm super annoyed with some spellcasting changes. Like some of them get "Disrupt magic" as a reaction which is just counterspell but since it's not a spell it can't be countered.

​@@TheRavenofSin yeah thats pretty lame. you never want players to feel that spells and abilities are just not useful. If there are effects that the players shouldn't be able to counter, make those "magic abilitiy effects". But making them able to win the counterspell game ruins the fun of chracters getting those spells. if you absolutely need a spell to go through, move out of range, have an ally cast invisibility on the boss, or block vision with a wall of fire, to teach players that Counter spells has limits that they can also use. Counter spell has alot of play and counterplay if you understand it. Rather then saying hah, my boss wins because the rules say he is just better at casting counterpell. That feels terrible and leaves no lessons for the players to learn other then, welp this spell i picked feels lame.

My issue is that MotM is obviously ready to go and printed but people who don’t need or want the extra books have to wait 4 months for a book that is obviously ready to be distributed. Edit: in the name equity and fairness, I must admit that my partner and me did (in fact) cave and buy the box set so we could have MoTM. I am sorry fellow DMs/PCs for we have succumb to WoTC's economic tactics.

Wouldn't be an issue if it was a straight up reprint/combination of MToF and VGtM, but there's significant changes that dedicated d&d players are left with a dilemma on wasting money or FOMO.

Yeah totally, my main issue (which is not mentioned in the video bc idk if there's a funny way to talk about it) is the confusion over how the adjustments to these books will change AGAIN in just two years with the "next evolution of dnd." Knowing that's coming kinda makes me not want to buy anything until this next set of core rules comes out...

I know I'm buying it. I don't have any of them yet, want them all and can save $10 just by getting the set, plus all the updates are built in and the monsters are combined into one book! SWEET!

I mean, running spellcaster NPCs is a pain in the ass, because you constantly have to look up their abilities (solved if you use some app for it). But the new fornat does NOT solve this issue, makes spellcasting NPCs weird, heavily nerfs player abilities, and so on. If they just included the most used spells in the statblock so you don't have to look it up would be leagues better, but no.

Which let's be honest is the majority of anyone who DMs . I'm probably going to Pathfinder after this.

It has the new “dolphin delighter” creature in the multiverse book, which itself is just a reprint and conglomeration of Volos and mordenkainens, with a compendium of the races printed throughout previous books that aren’t the phb. Overall there’s not really anything new per say in that book. Tashas and Xanathars are the same as before but with the errata added in. And then the set also comes with a new DM screen. Overall… no. Nothing new that is worth $180 if you already have any of the other books.

MMotM is the “new” one (coming out singly in May) that combines the monsters from Volos and MToF with some updates to their statblocks
