When he dropped SMILE, it was an okay record but I never liked NO STRESS. I was really scared he was going to disappoint with made in lagos. Then this two songs started to grow on me, couldn't start my day without listening to SMILE. Made in lagos wasn't what I was expecting honestly, he didn't even sing anything about the title of the album but after listening to it overtime, I love the direction he took it to, love his growth and I love his new sound. Believe it, you'll look back at this album in 1 years to call it a classic. Wizkid is a bold artist, an artist that can do an album with a new sound. I've come to understand the essence of made in lagos was to tell the world that such sound can come out from Lagos!

I feel like this album is probably wizkids most sonically cohesive album to date. I wasn't vibing with most individual tracks at first and thought it was repetitive but after going back to listen again, I end up listening to the entire album every single time. I don't think the album is intended to make you jump up and start doing leg work, just going off the beat selection and overall vibe of the album. It's more of a slow burn with an overall chill vibe you can listen to while hanging out or just doing random stuff. I feel this album is going to age like fine 'wine'

OK let me enlighten you more about what he meant MADE IN LAGOS.. It doesn't indicate that the album must sounds like what you're expecting but just indicate that a classic album/music can be made in lagos rather than getting such done internationally.. If that makes more sense.. That's my own comprehensions on this concept.
Sincerely I really enjoyed this album, and ur reaction made me feel sad cus I feel u dont understand where wizkid is going with his sound, and that's why almost everything can sell in Nigeria once it's up tempo and that's bad. Always listen to different songs with an open mind.
I think your reaction to this is one sided, and not all encompassing. You need to stop thinking of the wizkid of old, that's why you expect certain sounds from him. Listen to the songs, digest them properly. Man is grown now, he doesn't want to do the pakurumos any more, he wants to make good music now. Burna was ready to COLLECT Wiz's album with that key change lmfaoooo. that key change really it for me on Ginger haha. Yeah we definitely spinning this one. True Love is my second fave on the chart. Not sure how I feel about Essence with Tems, didn't land fully, but it might grow on me over time. Overall great album from Wiz. Anyone comparing MIL to TAT is not well haha. Both are great albums with different content and direction. Anyways, great review bros.
I said the same thing, essence needs a video. Tems killed it. When I first listened to the album I was annoyed with all the slow vibes. But the album grew on me

For me, its an okay album. Most songs are giving same vibe and I feel this Wizkid isn't really putting in too much energy in making music. I mean, its wiz (like Burna said in a video he has nothing to prove) so its just vibes. 6.8/10 My faves: Ginger, Blessed, smile, Reckless, Roma, True love. NB: Review Carpe Diem, thanks 😌

The features were really the highlight of the album. My favorite tracks are all the features blessed, ginger and piece of me. Wizkid did a really good job of picking his features
Again very solid review. I felt like it was a long time coming especially after the singles that came out. Its a good album that wiz is trying to indicate his growth as an artist but I felt the songs on the album were very redundant and there was nothing lagos about the album.

The EndSars campaign didn't put enough light on the album but go check it out. Olamide still a King in this game u know.. The album is complete.
Just watched the review and I couldn't agree more with the points you made. I always feared for what a Wizkid album would sound like since 2017, seeing the kind of music he started to put out at the time. Sadly those fears have been confirmed. Wizkid seriously needs to branch out artistically. He has needed that for a long time as his music became one dimensional and ultimately predictable. The constant themes have always been the generic 'I like the way you whine', 'Wizzy be the man', 'I get money, I go spend am on you', 'Your love dey sweet me'....etc. Just phrased differently and on different instrumentals. It becomes a chore having to listen to the same old formula over and over again. My prediction in 2018 when he first teased the album was that if MIL was not great, Wiz may just begin to slip out of the cultural microscope and eventually fall off. But that won't happen just yet. However, MIL has set the precedent for that. His next body of work will be more important than ever. Another average album may just signal that Wizkid is past it.
I think you don't get the message... He is trying to make different sound, not party kinda songs but a song people can stream. Because he is from a country where they can't afford to get him to a show, it's like bringing himself to everyone's world. It's a purpose album, it's made that clear. It's a global sound that is made in Lagos.

bro i love ur reviews man, but its funny how u listened to all the songs and said u dont vibe with some and some are mad to u , but all along wizkid was singing with the same vibe and tempo in all the tracks, the album is so solid, the way he seamlessly colab with all the feature's are amazing, just shows how beautiful his vocals can be (Ginger, Blessed, Peace of me) and his experience in the game. i understand u were expecting a bang bang song to feel something but this album is still solid and has a lot of happy vibes man, and dont compare albums man, every album as a different narrative and story so how can u compare

For someone who knows wiz this much, I find it quite baffling that you didn't know this. During his interview with Manny Norte last week, he said "I can make dance tunes like Soco and Joro in my sleep if I want to". It's unwise and unrealistic to expect an A-list artiste to dominate for over a decade with one sound. You may have noticed that, as great as Beyonce is, her latest releases haven't done well. Drake was largely criticized in 2015 for deviating from his rap-centric sounds. But look at what drake has achieved since 2016. MIL is a mid-tempo low-energy afro-soul/jazz/RnB album (with the exception of Ginger and Roma of course). Superstar is an upbeat high-energy hip-hop LP. So for me, the comparison is unfair and out of place. Wiz will NEVER create a better "superstar" album than he did in 2011. MIL is more reminiscent of Burna's 2018 Outside album with its mellow mid-tempo therapeutic vibes. Like you rightly said, wiz has been preparing us for this sound ever since he dropped Soundman Vol.1 11 months ago with tunes like Electric, Jam, Mine and Ease Your Mind. Seems to me like you still weren't quite ready. Some albums have specific themes, not all must be multigeneric to be considered "wholesome". Gyrate, mighty wine, sweet one and grace reinforce the theme of the album and the sonic direction wiz is onto. I understand your reservations on Longtime, though I feel your constant referencing and comparison to Energy(Star Far Away) ruined the tune for you. Surprisingly, you failed to credit wizkid's change of flow patterns on reckless and No Stress. POC, reckless has a clear theme and narrative which is to adress his naysayers and those who "go pray on my downfall" while stating that he's still succeeding in the face of hate, challenges and adversity when he said " no console now everybody dancing for me/ I'm on the move no be keke; now eveybody asking for me/ i dey go collect wetin Baba God dey destine for me/ Yours lost now found " I also feel you were way too harsh with Terri when you said he was trying to sound like wizkid. Hey, idk what mood or emotional state you were in, but Terri sounded every inch the Terri i heard on Ojoro, Balance, Bia, Soco and Kill Man. Wiz and Terri's vocal textures were as distinguishable as night and day (to me of course). You equally failed to credit the overall sonic cohesion of the album. Most strikingly, you paid precious little attention to the lyrical content of the album on tracks like reckless, blessed, gyrate, grace, true love, sweet one and my personal favorite, Essence. Lest i forget, did you say Wizkid was missing on blessed and essence? lmao Anyways, just like No Stress grew on you, so may the album. Even if it doesn't, it doesn't change the fact that Wizkid has probably changed the landscape of Alte music and other non-mainstream sounds (jazz, bantu, afro-soul, Rnb, afro-reggae) in Nigeria with MIL. Remember that wiz is a trend setter, and going against the wave of upbeat dance afrobeat sounds to drop this mid-tempo masterpiece may lead to the emergence of a new wave of mid/low-tempo afro-fused sounds. Btw, those tracks you consider "redundant" are refreshing therapeutic tunes for most music lovers I know. Thanks for your time and cheers 🥂
