estaban americano it's not a matter of being able to handle it or not, it's that it's fucking annoying. It's a shrill high pitched irritating fucking sound, and if the parents can't keep the little shit quiet, it should be forced to ride in the cargo bay.
Kiyoshi Kimura I don't think you know why they were clapping. It had nothing to do with with turbulence all to do with a majority of people onboard that flight returning home to their homeland, perhaps after years of being away! It's a joyous occasion. Whenever a flight landed in Portugal when I was young, the Portuguese immigrants clapped with joy..Oh the good old days!
David my man ! The round of applause was for the safe landing , trust me . In eastern Europe it is not a tradition anymore to celebrate the captain or the crew anymore (unfortunately). You can hear the relive in the voices of the passangers once they touch down .
Whenever where is turbulence, I just imagine myself in a little kayak on a lake. Sometimes the waves are big and you bounce a little, sometimes they are small and things are calm.
I traveled from Geneva to Warsaw at the same period of time, on August 16 2015. We went through a region of strong thunderstorms over Germany, there were about 30 minutes of the strongest turbulence I have ever experienced. The plane was shaking terribly, the parts of the plane were squeaking loudly like there were about to break off. Our Embraer made a dozen of very deep and frightening dives in the air before we were able to get out from the clouds.
I remember when I was in the plane approaching Vilnius it was very windy. Its windy all the time there, about 10 minutes before the landing we were turning and all suddenly we lost control. Only a few people screamed. By losing control I mean stall because it felt like I was falling but luckily the pilot landed safely. It was so windy there that even when the plane was parked at the gate the plane was still slightly shaking! The pilot looked about 50 years old btw. That was the scariest time of my life.
Your airplane absolutely did not stall by any means whatsoever. Had it stalled believe me you would know and so would everybody else as your flight would have a page on Wikipedia.
The only reason they were scared is not the turbulence but the retraction if the ground spoilers, the airbus aircraft make an angle correction when they are deployed and retracted to retain the best profile for flight, the retraction if spoilers at lower speeds causes the nose to go down a bit, which gives a temporary falling feeling, it’s all normal procedure and normal plane behavior, but some people don’t get it, it’s basic on the spot physics... I guess not in the current times
I remember when I was on the way to Jamaica and we were descending and everyone got that feeling of it dropping everyone was just like WHAOOOOO ROLLERCOASTER while I held onto my seat as we turned over
Is it weird that I find turbulence fun? I also find mild earthquakes fun....and roller coasters, and thunder storms. Yeah maybe I'm just weird. In all seriousness though, my first plane ride occurred when I was just a baby. I've never been scared during a plane ride. In fact, I rather love them.
Christopher Boit de l'eau it just seems so cheesy. the overwhelming majority of flights take off and land with zero complications, and the passengers act like a miracle has been performed
I'd like to imagine those screamers are the ones who get everyone killed during an an actual emergency evacuation, because they want to bring their hand luggage with them.
Babies have a hard time with air pressure on their ears. Parents should pack a bottle, have suckers for small children, to help them handle changes in altitude.
It's because when you see the ground, you're aware that your fine. When you're in the clouds, you have no possible way of knowing. Pilots don't care much because they have the flight instruments in the cockpit.
@blackbldng - wow ths is exactly me!! If I can see the ground and wing I dont mind - but as soon as we are in deep cloud I sweat so bad out of hands I cant even hold the chair arms!
i have the same reaction!!!    my wife gets so mad, cause she thinks I'm laughing at her freaking out, but it's just natural! haha awesome to find another with the same reaction
I remember flying to Cuba one time and we were just flying over the straits of Florida right through a small storm. At one point the left engine briefly gave out sending people flying all over the place and while I was buckled in, I still nearly hit the ceiling. We fell at least 1km before the pilots regained control. Now that was some scary shit.
I agree. I was on a flight that aborted landing because of a storm and we flew out through the storm and circled for a good 10 minutes. I remember being able to see the airport in the distance thinking to myself "my family is there waiting and I really want to get down now!"
+Justin Hopkins the same here was going land in chambery, France and the fog meant that we had to go around 2x and steeping ascend to avoid sheer cliffs. Thankfully the pilot landing, which was a similar manoeuvre to the approach into Innsbruck!! 😜
Alex Penney That's the worst, because when you're landing you just want to get off and go home. Horrible feeling. I've landed at Gibraltar and that was a bit harrowing.
+importedmusic Sometimes, it's even more dangerous to do that, especially if there's windsheer close to the ground. When you have one column of fast, rising air and another column of rapidly descending cold air, you get windsheer, and this can actually bring a plane down. It's much safer to avoid trying to land at that point. Yeah, it's scary, but the pilot has trained in some of the most horrifying situations and knows what's best for the passengers. Still, I've been through a similar situation, and I had a Guide Dog sitting on the floor, and I had my legs firmly holding her shoulders and her leash clipped to my seatbelt just in case she became airborne.
Funny you should say that was just thinking to put my last two experiences with Ryanair flight am sure the pilot on the flight to Murcia from Manchester was trying to kill us he slammed the plane down and then full on emergency braked you expect to be pushed forward but not thrown. Yet the pilot on the return flight in that last storm we just had the landing at Manchester was spot on he kissed the plane down and standard force of braking. Fingers crossed for next yr
Yall think this is scary? 2 years ago i was traveling on an international flight back home over the ocean with the worst turbulence ever the cabin lights kept switchin on and off and it felt like we were dropping no one made a peep
beautylov3r Turbulence Has no effect on Electricity. Wow. The lights have an effect on the engine which causes the engines to slow down. Maybe they were testing it, there is usually less stress on the engines on cruising altitude or landing. But turbulence has no effect on the planes electricity.
I’ve also been on a flight with quite bad turbulence and the lights in the cabin were flickering on and off the whole time. It freaked me out because I wondered how on earth a bit of turbulence could be affecting the aircraft’s electrics. Also the engines kept spooling up and down repeatedly.
Turbulence doesn't scare me, but what does is when the turbulence is heavy enough to start jolting the plane and shake it around, also causing banging noises against the airframe
They're super happy to get back into their automobiles where well over a million people die each year, and 40+ million are injured. Elated to get off a commercial aircraft where the odds of death are less than 1-in-10,000,000.
Nothing. Actual heavy turbulence is when you’ll hit the ceiling if you’re not buckled it. Happens from time to time if you rack up a few million miles flown. My dad had a fellow passenger hit the ceiling when his seatbelt wasn’t on from a thunder clap (lightning strikes below the aircraft, heating the air, an expansion process. The air cools and consequently all the air contracts back in, including the patch of air the airplane is traveling though)
These kind of "turbulence" is normal when descending for landing, also when climbing after a take-off those few bumps that people call turbulence are pretty normal. The actual turbulences occur at high altitude not this low.
Wee bit of chop, nothing special though. I flew to Australia with Singapore Airlines back in 2002, going over the Alps, that was fun, a 747 Combined being thrown around like we were in a washing machine, can you imagine the forces it takes to do that? Those were the days, nowadays pilots avoid the chop if they can.
In the modern era of flight no plane has ever crashed do only to turbulence. Modern jets are tested to stresses greater then anything they could face due to weather. The only thing that could possibly down a jet would be flying into the eye of a hurricane.
In World War 2 before any weather radar or any modern aids . A British 4 engined airline inadvertently entered a storm cloud. The plane had an almost instantaneous increase in altitude of around 5000 feet . The plane survived, but I suspect never flew again.
The last time I flew on a commercial plane, part of the ride taking off Was Bumpy ( turbulence), but I took it in stride. I was a little concerned but not scared. The pilots landed safely. This was many years ago.
There is absolutely nothing worse than the dreaded feeling of being at the total mercy of the airplane when it hits turbulence.. It sucks and I feel for anyone that has or will experience it. The worse is when the plane drops out from below ya.. lol.. !!
Dude people are seriously scared of this? That’s just okay BUT FUCKING HIGH PITCHED SCREAMS OF SOMEBODY NEXT TO ME WOULD PROBABLY MAKE MY EARS BLEED and then I will die peacefully because I never wanted to be on this stupid ass world I could die for all I care but on a plane? That would make it more fun for death
At the moment of the gear down ,it happen an important airplane drag who changed the course of wind at the fuselage....no fears no tears it the law of physics....have a good trip ladies and gentlemen's ....
Każdy lot to przygoda która nigdy nie wiadomo co ze sobą przyniesie.. My jednak lubimy ryzyko skoro wsiadamy i oddajemy się niejako pod opiękę danej załogi..
That was normal 😅 Always when plane going lower then go into different speed of air and this is reason for turbulences. Always when plane landing I had kinda "heavy" turbulences but this was normal. ONLY WIZZAIR cuz is the best plane for me ☺
I wish I was like some of the folks on here that love to fly and love turbulence -- I hate flying and hate turbulence -- from the moment I get on and strap in, I am counting the moments until I can get off! Also, I get so bored sitting there --- and really can't stand flying longer than a couple hours that's all I can take --- maybe it would be better in first class??
I don't Understand when people say " this is a heavy turbulence" If you film the wings you can't really know what's going on. You have to look how it moves from inside to be able to know if it's a heavy turbulence
Turbulence isn't cool or fun! I don't care that ppl say it's safe & nothing to worry about because the feeling of an unstable plane IN THE AIR is just terrifying.
Thats not real turbulence. Turbulence is when you hit the ceiling then back on the floor, and the luggage compartments pop open spewing baggage all over the cabin. I survived that on a flight to Atlanta. Thats when you figure out that planes are a whole lot tougher than you might think.
This isn't heavy turbulence . We took off at Heathrow a couple of years ago . An the wings bent upwards . It looked like it was gonna snap off . Now that shit was scary as fuck
Its a well known fact in the air transport industry that 90% of airplane accidents happen on takeoff or landing. So i guess in a sense, yep... landing is remarkable at times.
Sama cebula.
