I’m in the market. 175 to 210 give or take. I have only made one offer so far with no luck. My expectation is very, very simple. I will pay for the boat - the same price that I can sell it for. If you want me to pay 220 for a boat that is in fact worth 220 (after I spend another 25), sorry - not gonna do it. Here is another problem… if the BUC and NADA vale is 150, how do you justify asking 230? I know that you will pay above these prices for a desirable boat - but not 70k. These boats will come on and off the market for months looking for that impulse buyer. Covid is over, time to wake up, people are not going to pay unsupported prices. I can certainly find a boat with the price I’m looking to spend, I just haven’t found her yet and I’m not in a hurry. In the meantime I have to watch out for the flippers and the dreamers. From my point of view it’s some of these sellers that need a new dream. I gotta be honest, Paul, I really enjoy listening to your experience but I much prefer listening to “what can be done” vs “what can’t be done”. Have a great day!
My goal is to buy a trawler or fast trawler. Trying to not buy older than 20 years old. Budget under $1mm. Wife and I planning on live aboard, around 60 ft. I still have to work for 6 more years. Like your videos and keep working out.
Not going to lie, skipped your videos for awhile because I was looking for loop videos. But the information you provide is priceless. I'll look for your email, but wife just said maybe we can take vacation to Marathon (again) and see if you could do some boat training for us. Hoping to do the loop, but we turn 62 this year and are primary care for older parents. That might have sounded bad, but rather have them around than do the loop.

I agree, when fuel was 1.50 a gallon you could burn fuel with a turbo engine and cruise fast. Now you need to slow down to 8 knots and save money on fuel.
Looking for some opinions on a 87 Trojan international with twin detroits 36ft. Asking price is under 20k. Owner says engines run well and nothing needs fixing that he can think of. Selling due to health reasons. This will be my first boat planning to live on full time. Thx for everyones input.
I have seen a lot of pictures that don't match the boat. There is a lot of junk out there. Everyone is asking over BUC value. I don't know if it is the brokers trying to get every penny or the BUC values are low. Do other people see boats asking anywhere near BUC values?
The good deals happen so fast you never get to see them, so it’s hard to tell, but when your looking at a boat that has been on the market for over 6 months it’s probably over priced. God Bless and thank you 🙏
This is crazy for people to dump hundreds of thousands of dollars on a depreciating money pit that is a boat. A $1M boat could lose half its value in 5 years vs a house that could increase in value by 50% in 5 years. I became a millionaire by investing in appreciating assets over years and I did not waste my money buying a boat. The boating industry is always looking for suckers to buy their overprice products. There is the old saying that the happiest day for a boat owner is the day he buys the boat and the day he sells the boat.

So I have been looking to buy a boat to do the Great Loop. I am going to be solo with a dog so things that matter to me are no ladders, good davit and tender to easily get into and out of, most likely a lower helm and access for docking, locks, etc. Also looking at other costs such as relocating the boat if necessary, tax, registration, slip for some period of time, training, etc. I would appreciate any recommendations, advice, etc. as to type of boat, things to consider, etc. I live in Chattanooga which has a high sales tax on boat purchases. I was thinking about keeping it nearby in AL as it is only about 1 hour away, on the loop and I think it would be significantly cheaper but if you buy a boat in FL, SC, NC, etc., it is expensive to get the boat here. So way more questions than answers...
When you’re ready to do the loop just start from where you pick the boat up at, moving a boat is expensive and does cost a lot. Jim was solo with his dog, and he did it in the 390 Mainship, one of these boats would probably work best or a trunk style trawler. Tim has one in Louisiana a 40 Defever at a nice price with lots of value it seems.
What do you think about gas v diesel? So many more boats with gas engines are available right now at that 150k price. We want to cruise the east coast, Canada, the Bahamas and possibly the loop. Thanks!
Gas engines are tough to sell and they just don’t hold up as well. The bigger stuff really needs diesel engines. But there are plenty of people that run gas boats on the loop and even the Bahamas.

All diesel engines run, and yes there are a few to stay away from, but Cummins Cat Detroit, Yanmar all have good motors, just depends what you want to do and how fast you want to go.
Stretching their budget that far and trying to find a steal on the wrong boat: not only will it have all those hidden costs up front because it was cheap for a reason, I guarantee they're not being realistic about the true ongoing operating costs.
