If you skip the pins, you can solder the wires directly into the pin holes, far less effort and tidier. You can also get ESPs with the pins uninstalled, so this can be done on both ends.

hi my learned friend. I pulled another all nighter on this problem. 3rd night. I have absolutely No clue what I'm doing. I remember basic programming back in the long lost day... But after subscribing to what I call "bumble bee logic" I actually managed to compile a wled.bin wuhooo.. Now this may not be an achievement to the majority as I don't talk code fortran c++ or anything like that. I'm still on English 101. Anyways.. Truley if I can do it.. Many of those who think they can't.. really can.. (that makes sense right..?) Now flashed my resulting hard work lol onto 4 esp32s..with wled 14 with sound reaction. That's all I wanted and that what I got. And yes in the end it was relatively easy.

I have never seen someone solder to headers before. That looks sooooo hard lol, you can order ESP32 boards without the headers preinstalled. They are much cheaper because the headers must be soldered manually by a human. Then you can solder your wires through holes, instead of to metal posts. I can't believe you made that work that's crazy.

Awesome video! I recently found your channel and it's been my main source of info and inspiration for my first custom led project. Question. Lets say I have 4 individually controlled strips. Would I need to have microphones on each controller? Or could I have a mic on one strip and then use the "Sync" feature to basically replicate the sound reactive effects to the non sound reactive strips?
@ChrisMaherDIY
@ChrisMaherDIY Год назад
Thanks so much for watching and great question! So if your going to have 4 controllers you would need to have a microphone on each one. The sync feature would basically be telling each controller what animation to initiate but without the mics, they would then have display any animation. However, in theory if you wanted them all to do the same things you could split the data line coming from 1 controller 4 ways and then all 4 of them would do the same thing as you would only have the 1 controller if that makes sense. Thanks again for watching!
@sethjohnson5171
@sethjohnson5171 Год назад
@@ChrisMaherDIY That makes complete sense! I really appreciate the info. My project is going to consist of 1500 LEDs all in diffuser channels throughout a room (25m @ 60 LEDs/m). For ideal performance and frame rate on the esp32 its recommended to run 512 LEDs or less, per pin. Could I output the data on multiple pins on the esp32 using WLED that way I don't have 1500 LEDs on one pin? Or would I'd be looking at a slightly different controller?

@@joeygunzilla6878 Afraid I have not! I teach a WLED introductory class at my local makerspace, but omit the sound reactive part of it because I've never got it to do what I really want. I haven't tried versions of SR since this video was released, I think, so things may have improved. There's always the chance with electronic components that we were shafted with faulty ones, too. That went for me with Radio Shack in the 80s and definitely with amazon in the last couple of decades. So the advice may not be wrong, but our components.

Thanks so much for watching! Yeah I hear ya. @@ChrisMaherDIY Sorry. I was wrong, activating hue synchronization only allows you to use one color, to be able to use the gradient effect and synchronize with the music through hue essentials you need to use diyhue which is somewhat more complex. i have yet to test it as diyhue is still in a very early version. Hi Chris, Thanks for the great tutorial. One quick question: if I have two set of LED strips, is it okay to connect them with a Wago connector that has 1 more slot for the ground, data, and voltage cables? Or would that short the system?
@ChrisMaherDIY
@ChrisMaherDIY 2 года назад
If I'm understanding correctly, you can for sure do that. For example, if you have a wago connector that has 4 slots, 1 slot can be for the main voltage line, another slot can be for the voltage going to the esp device, another slot can be the voltage for the 1st led and the last opening can be for the voltage going to the second led strip. You can do the same thing for the ground and data lines. What you cant do is use a wago connector with lets say 4 slots and in 1 slot you put a ground, 1 slot you put a voltage and another a data. That will not end well since you are crossing all the connections. Hope that helps!

I want to use WLED as it has much better features than an SP107E music controller but I don’t want to use a speaker to pick up the sound as I’ll be using it in a club environment that has a lot of sound I don’t want it to react too. I just found your channel and I love it man. Needed it a year ago when i tried to alter my govee Leds and ended up having different colors in the different strips (i guess the signal cable was too long). Then I saw the video with the accent wall and that you put a small resistor in and I thought "damn i guess that was my problem ". Not sure if you tried it already but automating your projects would be pretty cool. I read you can use Homeassistent to connect with WLED and control your Light. So e.g. you could have some NFC Tag sticker around the house (really cheap) and the lights would turn on by just holding your phone on the sticker for a sec. Instead of having to unlock the phone and open the WLED App.

You are very welcome and thank so much for the support! That's a very good question! I tried finding videos out there that would help explain to me how to get something like this set up and I really couldn't find anything on RU-vid. I found some that had breadboards involved and others that used different mics or different esp boards, but I never found anything that used this esp32 board with this mic. However, I did end up finding i think it was a written explanation on some website that seemed to use the parts I wanted to use and the way it was explained on that website was the way I did it. So all that to say, i have no idea if there are any pluses or minuses to the way I did it versus using the pin you mentioned! But if I were you (and I might even try it now myself as I'm always curious) i would try doing it both ways and see what works the best or if its pretty much the same! Thanks again buddy!
