What a great series. I drive 1/10 scale but I really enjoyed watching you build this model. I’ve always wanted a Mini-Z but I might pick up a k989 to try first after seeing your videos.

Whats better out of box kyosho mini z or wl toys 989? Probably mini z right since it costs 150? Is kyosho better than the redcat racing one or how about mad drift by exceed rc? Thanks. Thats all for now. I already ordered a 969. Should I just get an a 252? That best out of box for 60? Will it actually drift?

@@familyman8644 it kinda depends what you want. On road, offroad, buggy, truck, etc. Theres so many types of driving too, theres even rock crawling. If you just want a standard 10th scale to get started with Traxxas makes a few different ones that are ok, and wltoys is finally jumping into 10th scale with their 104001 if you want a 4wd buggy. As for your question about mini z vs 989, the mini z is better by a LANDSLIDE. HUGELY better. Its like comparing a Swiss watch or rolex timepiece to a little 20 dollar walmart watch. Sure, they both tell time, but one is SO much more precise in its design and functionality, as well as beautiful to behold. The Mini z really reminds me of Swiss watches because of the insane attention to detail and next level accuracy and quality. They may be small, but theyre super high end. If you want a drift machine, and just a drift machine, I would say youre better asking around on Facebook or checking the marketplace to see if there's any of the big names that are maybe a few years older than what they'd want to race professionally so you could probably get a real deal if you look and wait for the right moment to buy. Hopefully we'll all run into eachother at the tracks jn this world

That’s already a 1/10 scale touring price. But in all honesty, not bad. I like it. Through 3D printing, I’m creating a rwd pan car based on a 1/32 scale mini 4wd. It’s using a drone brushless outrunner motor, but the problem with it is that the drone esc lack braking and reverse function. I’m thinking, I should try that esc.

Kyosho radial or rubber works well on pretty much any surface. We usually use front higher number than the back. Degree number tells you the grip, lower degree has more grip. So basically we start with front 30, rear 20 to prevent the car from traction roll then adjust from there. Front = narrow, rear = wide. There are many manufactures too so feel free to choose. Check it outside the car first if it works properly. Also check the wiring and soldering joints to see if there's any bridge between 2 wires. Also check if there's any break in the motor wires, that's the main problem for motor with wires coming out directly from the can like this one. If that works, check if the gear mesh is too tight on the car. If everything works smoothly but the motor still refuses to turn then it might be defective. Either that or the ESC is defective.

Hmm...when I've got the cnc up and running again maybe I'll try my hand at making a few upgrade parts for these things. They REALLY need better steering angle, so I'm thinking making a whole new steering setup that fits in with the stock diff case and such, or perhaps a full swap with diff casing as well may be in order... anything to get it to u-turn in just over twice its width like a real car can.

Isit possible to upgrade to brushless and use standard transmitter/receiver??
@BeaversHobby
@BeaversHobby Год назад
Yes, it is but it's not recommended. There is a receiver for the current version transmitter so you will need to buy that extra receiver. However, some ESC might require reverse throttle to work and that is not possible with the standard transmitter. You can still do that by taking the transmitter apart then swap the wires on the potentiometer, again this is not recommended. Besides, the cost of the new receiver varies from source to source and you can get a pretty OK transmitter, the DumboRC X6 with all the necessary features (reverse throttle, reverse steering, dual rates, etc) for something like $29.

I bought two different Rocket Esc / brushless combos one red one black couldn't get either to work. Then I got that hobby wing 18a ESC and hooked it to the rocket brushless motors I have tried the red and black motor neither seem to be working correctly. They seem to sputter or not get up to speed. I was wondering if you have any ideas what I am doing wrong? I am matching the #s from the ESC to the #'s on the motors. Would you recommend anything? Or even a whole new combo set? eBay and Amazon have package deals but I am afraid I am going to end up with the same issue. I have the hobylink transmitter and receiver w gyro and love them. I am Just looking for a little more pep on the long straightaway then I am getting from the 130 motors. Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated. I am also trying to keep my battery plugs the same I ended up with lots of 7.4v 600mah I use them in several different models. Is the scorpion still what I should try or anything a little cheaper I can get the more bang for my buck. Appreciate you reading my comment and hopefully getting back to me. I have watched and used lots of your advice over the year and a half I have been messing around with the wltoys 1/28 platform thanks for all the great content I am watching you from southern California so don't normally use bangood but if you think they have what I need I will do it. Just want more on the top speed but don't want to lose the quick starts. Thanks again Mark
@BeaversHobby
@BeaversHobby Год назад
The spluttering you have could come from different things like joined terminals on the motor so make sure all 3 terminals don't touch each other. The Surpass motor is good but the ESC is pure garbage. The Hobbywing ESC is good so combining the Surpass motor with Hobbywing ESC is already a good choice. I suggest you check the connection on the motors and the ESC then calibrate the ESC and try again. You can also try reverse the throttle channel and re-calibrate the ESC. Hobbywing 18A can sometimes work only with specific direction of the throttle so it might help. Worst case is you'll have to replace the motor or the ESC. Check out kenonhobby.com. It's the biggest 1/28 shop in the US. There are many other shops as well like Helidirect, WolframRC and RCsupremacy. A Surpass motor with PN Racing V2 ESC also works really well. I'm not sure if any Amazon shop will sell the PN ESC. Don't mind the Scorpion I use in this video. Nowadays we have plenty of choices.

Will mini-z bodies fit on this? I am looking to get one of these I don't own a RC this small is it easy to work on being that small? Not including the front hubs that you saying need to be modified what other suspension parts fit right on the car? Thank you in advance one more thing is this the four-wheel drive touring car that comes with the escort looking body
@BeaversHobby
@BeaversHobby 4 года назад
Yes, Mini-Z bodies will fit. Some might need modification to the chassis, some fits directly. Here's the video about this topic. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--gCJEXXWBEo.html Additional info, so far I've tried: - Corvette C7 ZR1: fits with custom front lip to lift the bonnet up a bit. - Audi R8, Lexus SC430, Aston Martin DBR9: These cars need to lower the shock. - Honda Civic Type R: direct fit, only need 0mm offset narrow wheels and shave the wheel arches off a little bit. So all FWD like Renault Megan, Mazda 2 and Subaru WRX (4 door) will fit with the same method. It's relatively easy to work on as there are not many parts and the car isn't complicated. This one is as good as it gets for budget touring car. If you want to upgrade it, aluminium shock tower fits directly without mod and it's a good improvement. I'm not entirely sure about aluminium shock, from what I've heard it doesn't make much difference. Greasing standard shock with gear diff grease does the same job. Another thing you can do to make it better is tuning the toe angle with adjustable rod. Use 3.5mm ball cap from small helicopter, it'll fit directly. I use TRex250 helicopter parts to do it (need to do another video on that).

do you prefer this brushless setup over your old hobbywing 1625 brushed setup? what about the xc-10 esc setup and surpass 6000kv motor? how does it compare to hobbywing? which of these setups would you recommend for small track carpet racing and some drifting with different tires?
@BeaversHobby
@BeaversHobby 5 лет назад
For drifting out of all stuffs I've done I like the control from brushed setup with Hobbywing 1625 the most but it's the heaviest and you wouldn't want it in racing. The XC-10A with Surpass Hobby 6000KV is OK only for drifting, but with on-road racing tyres it cogs pretty badly. ESC is weak so if you're OK with a bit more weight the Hobbywing 18A that I have in this video will be better. To keep weight and footprint down you can de-solder Hobbywing 18A's original wires and directly connect evrything on the board. I think that's the best solution. Final answer is the setup you see in this video but maybe different motors to suite your need. For example Atomic 3500KV for drifting and Scorpion 6000KV for racing.
@kennetcastillo7740
@kennetcastillo7740 5 лет назад

@BeaversHobby
@BeaversHobby 5 лет назад
@@kennetcastillo7740 The best one I've used is the Genning D561MG goo.gl/DsrqK5 It's metal gear, digital and very fast. It won't fit WLtoys bracket directly so you'll need a bit of modding. This is what I did ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zB3pUN9XiSw.html at 4:45 you'll see the modded servo bracket. As for the radio, under 180 USD there's nothing better than Radiolink RC4GS. If you can afford more there're many choices for example Sanwa MT-S, Futaba 4PLS, Futaba 4PV. I've just checked, RCmart got MT-S on discount for 155 www.rcmart.com/4channel-radio-rx482-fh4fh4-p-80288.html?cPath=36_47 That's very good deal.

Does the EZrun have cogging problems at low speeds? How does it compare to brushed Hobbywing setup for low speed control?
@BeaversHobby
@BeaversHobby 3 года назад
EZrun doesn't have cogging problems. It also depends on the setup but when it happens it's not severe. Low speed control compared to brushed is alright, again depending on the motor. The starting speed usually is a bit faster than a brushed system but the motor spools up faster because it's brushless. It's also better in long run when you want to change only an electronic part like radio, ESC, motor. Mini-Z has proprietary electronics and you can't swap those parts easily. But if you want to have the best car to start, money no object then look for Mini-Z MA-030EVO (easiest car to drive right now), Atomic BZ3 (super agile and capable touring car) and GL Racing GLA V2.1 (the most versatile car with out of the box upgrade, think of it as a step up from AMZ).

@@familyman8644 Didn't know you are already in the hobby so this will be much easier. Get an Atomic, no matter what it is, it will be better than Mini-Z. Mini-Z is good for a beginner. Coming from car building you'll get very frustrated because of proprietary electronics and you can't even use your own transmitter. DRZ V2 is their latest offering for RWD drifting. I'm absolutely sure you'll like it. It's still in Mini-Z ecosystem so it shares the wheels, tyres and body which you can get pretty easily from a Kyosho dealer or buy directly from Japan. However, it's like what I mentioned earlier. You can't get everything from just 1 shop. I forgot to mention Atomic or any kit car will be much easier to work on than Mini-Z both mechanically and electronically. It'd be even better if your radio has small receiver available (Futaba, Sanwa and Flysky Noble have it with the plug ready for micro car) otherwise it'll be difficult to fit under the body. Their official store is miracle-mart.com so you can check there for the availability. Besides, you'd be lucky to be able to order it and ship to your location due to lipo shipping restriction. That's why I said to get it from other sources. Unless you'll buy it from a local Atomic dealer then they should ship to you, no problem at all. Atomic has lexan body so if you want that, don't forget to pickup the lexan mounting poles too. Magnet mount will work for drift car, I also did it here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hrUr2lJxqkk.html . For touring car the body will come off in crashes very easily so it's more secured to use old style posts and clips.

The Leopard motor is really fragile. You need to have electrical glue or fluid electrical tape to hold the wires in place where they come out of the motor can. I got one and it broke within first 5 minutes of running. Back then it was like $28 down the drain in a few minutes of running. I was heart broken so I went crazy with 9500KV. If you want a good inexpensive motor right now I suggest Surpass Rocket series. Combine it with EZrun and it'll be fantastic. By the way after using this 9500KV combining with 2S lipo it for a while I came to the conclusion that the car is pretty much uncontrollable. I had too many crashes so I went back to brushed motor.
