WLVI TV-Boston-Star Trek Promo (Summer 1983).Star Wars anti-smoking PSA (1980).2 different Monkees bumpers.*Originally recorded on betamax in the summer of 1983!
One of the coolest promotions of Boston TV. Letting Trekies host Star trek! I remember them doing it! Some of the 'hosts' did it tounge-in-cheek (like a local entertainer, who did ST impressions throughout his turn) while others were stoic to the point where you'd think they were doing a BBC documentary on the Blitz! (Either way,,, they were alot of fun!)
Wow I'd almost forgotten about that Star Wars smoking PSA! Amazing how something you haven't seen or thought about for ages just pops back the moment you see it. WLVI 56 was awesome.
This was the time when most NE stations that were showing Star Trek were starting to cut out parts of the show so they could run more commercials. Ch. 56 was the only station still showing the episodes uncut daily. That's what I used to love about them.
Wow I remember that starwars PSA from my childhood. They ran all sorts of PSA's back then now that i think of it. The "wagon wheel" of cheese, various Bugs Bunny ones..
Trek exactly as you remembered it, except for the disco Trek theme version, if you didn't know there was a science fiction soundtrack record released with familiar sci fi themes, but converted to disco. It was called Meco - Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk.
I'm loving all the Channel 56 ads! There used to be one where this woman was singing about how she puts vegetables in her kids' lunches - you didn't happen to tape that ad, did you??
OK, let an old man remember: In my earliest memory of channel 56 (Boston), they were a Kaiser-Globe Broadcasting entity (call letters - WKGB) and were part of a group of stations owned by aluminum tycoon Edgar Kaiser (future founder of Kaiser-Permanente Insurance and HMO's). They were the station Boston area kids watched to see Star Trek, Kimba & Speed Racer. They were also home of Saturday TV staple Creature Double feature (right after WWWF Championship Wrestling).
