This is a montage of the well done, but shortlived 1989-90 WNBC redesign. It was the work of Jon Fox, president of Hothaus Design. Due to his successful redesign of WTVJ as an NBC O&O, he was bought up to New York to work some of his design magic.

something i forgot to mention, the music sounds so peaceful and refreshing. sounds kind of like a jazz hall or some sort of music hall. it also reminds me of one mission from a video game called "Ace Combat 4".

I had no idea that WNBC aired Geraldo! I knew that it aired Donahue, and then aired Sally Jessy Raphael sometime in the '90s, after WABC stopped airing it! But Geraldo?! I did not know that!

I think the key words is this is a “test reel” marketed to WNBC-TV’s creatives. Most likely the promos featured was their own (Hothaus) footage. This still applies access shows that air on other stations. They slap stuff around to test - and 4NY’s creatives would make those access show promos relevant to the station.

I really liked this imaging, but they ditched it for "We're 4 New York" in '92, which was also short-lived in its first incarnation. My only criticism is this: the promos could have been for programs that ACTUALLY aired on channel 4 at the time, because "A Current Affair" and "Entertainment Tonight" didn't. And they could have used an accurate schedule for the 'Coming Up' sweeper. But it is just a prototype.

In addition, they should have used clips featuring Maury Povich and Mary Hart.

A Current Affair actually began as a local show on WNYW. Jon Fox must've liked taking artistic license with syndicated programming.

@pooka5472 That was on in the afternoon with Scrabble, in a block from 3-4. When did WNYW lose the rights to "A Current Affair"? I thought they had it for its entire run

Never. It was always on FOX 5 throughout its 1986-96 original run.

Entertainment Tonight on 4:00? Most stations air this show on 7:30(6:30 central) & it on CBS, althrough it syndicted.

It may sound weird but some local stations air it in the late afternoon like KARE 11 which airs at 3:30 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and KSAT 12 which airs at 4:30 in San Antonio, Texas.

WNBC didn’t air ET, it went to it’s longtime WCBS-TV in 1990 after it was a second shot straight at WABC

At 0:26, dosen't the graphics look like it's from one of NBC's "Place To Be" Campaigns From 1990?

Isn't Hothaus Design the same company who did graphics for WFAA, WLS, WRTV, and others?
