Finally.... This girl dominated at the youth level and got the MVP in the U-17 World Cup. About time. Sawa and the other old players are gone now. It's time for her to step up. It's her team.

To everyone saying there was a deflection, if you slow the video down and watch from 0:18 I am fairly certain there actually was no deflection off of Sauerbrunn.

Replays shown when this was live showed the littlest of deflections of Saurebrunn. Shot was still going in regardless

I believe the replays of this goal that were shown when this was live showed it barely brushing Saurebrunns leg. didn't change the direction of the ball tho

There is no deflection on that goal whatsoever. Long tried to get a deflection but Iwabuchi already got her shot off and up on the air. The woman has an explosive curling shot, most exciting goal of the night.

How do the commentators fail to see a deflection there? Unlucky for the USA, but still great skill by Iwabuchi to create the shot.

The deflection was so little it barely did anything. The shot was going on regardless. As a US fan I am perfectly comfortable saying that this goal wasn't luck and that the American defense was pressing her. Fantastic goal though. Japan never fail to play beautiful soccer

Hope Solo would've gotten a hand on the shot if it hadn't been deflected. Probably a clean save too. It doesn't look like that much of a deflection since Sauerbrunn was so close to the shot, you can barely tell where the shot was intended to go. The deflection also changed the spin of the ball, which made it dip into the far corner.

+Nicholas Hung just no. I highly disagree. It was barely even a deflection. The Japanese players consistently score goals that dip down like that. They have Incredible shots

yeah I suspected it was deflected during the game. hope would of saved otherwise. regardless still not happy with how the whole team played yesterday. Have to be better.

The deflection is very obvious which made it an impossible ball for Hope Solo to get her hands on it, and still Hope was very close to get her hands on it. It takes a lot to beat Hope Solo. But still a beautiful goal.
