The start of the 11:00 news on WNYT (channel 13) in Albany, NY, airing on the day the station premiered a new news set. WNYT is the NBC affiliate for the Albany area, as well as parts of Western Massachusetts and Vermont.
Ed Dague and Chris Kapostasy hold down the fort as always, with reporters Bill Lambdin, Mark Mulholland and Monica Mahaffey doing news stories. As I stated above, this was the first day using the news set that WNYT would keep for almost 23 years. The set was based off of Dateline NBC, and didn't age well for many viewers' opinions. The only big changes in those years was changing the station logo on the front of the desk, and renovating the weather center.
The stories of the day include two retail busts. One local department store announces its closure (effective end of November) after 100 years in the business, while Caldor (a chain that had a few 518 locations, including Crossgates and Latham Circle Mall) filed for bankruptcy. The respective locations are now a Dave & Buster's and a Lowe's. Meanwhile, Mark has a story on keeping children safe on a city playground, and another story involves a body found in the Catskill Creek.
Despite the new set, WNYT kept its on-air look the same, except it did change the talent bumps and a few other tidbits. The graphics were based off what sister station KMOV in St. Louis was using, and would introduce viewers to WNYT's current logo. IMO, WNYT used these graphics the best out of all stations that used them.
