@@jim3939 ninja gaiden came out in 2004, demon souls came out in 2009, team ninja has been making combat like this long before sekiro, also, nioh 2 is very similar which came out before sekiro
Regarding the "characters" you meet along the game, you can call them back as help later by using the backup calling item at the flag, and you can choose whoever you like.
Fun fact: "Wo Long" means "Crouching Dragon", and is the nickname given to the grand strategist Zhuge Liang. You might remember that character from the Dynasty Warrior games as the guy who wields the fan.
Love it so far, just arrived in the Hidden Village. Its punishing given I'd completed Elden Ring five times over and not played Nioh or the other games in this genre but damn, always enjoyed the Three Kingdoms characters and lore. Co op is a blast to when you unlock it. So far Wo Long is one of my favourite 2023 launches. 🎉 happy slaying folks.
As someone who loves team ninjas games, it’s so weird seeing that they just seem unwilling to improve their level design. Especially considering Ninja Gaiden, a game released back in 2004, had very great level design. Everything flowed into each other.
Ninja Gaiden had extremely basic level design.... Long hallways that lead to square or circle like rooms, all very flat with no vertical design. Some of the later renditions kind of improved level design but was still very basic.... In my opinion :)
Honestly the loot mechanics in Nioh and these are great. It's nice and deep and you can push it in wild directions. It's really not hard to sell off unwanted items, and the trade off is worth it in terms of gameplay and character creation.
@@joeloguirato7012 "Team Ninja has made another one of the best Souls-like games" absolutely fits grammatically, as does your sentence. (Source: I'm an English teacher)
Yea they're the only ones who actually know how to make a soulalike that the creators from software created. ofcourse it will never touch their brilliant series soulsborne but still dope.
You can sell/upgrade gear. So you shouldn’t have a big inventory of gear if you’re keeping track of what you’re picking up. Demo was amazing. Can’t wait for release.
@@lordhughmungus yeah but that one time going through for 10 minutes will feel a lot more than 10 minutes 😉 then you just become a hoarder and no one has time for that 😜
Pretty safe to say Nioh 2 is the better game from the hours I've put in so far. The burst counter system just has more fun factor than the deflect system, never mind how much cooler demon transformations are versus a spirit summon.
One minor gripe with these games is that they all look and feel the same, obviously since Team Ninja have been using the same engine for their games since Nioh. The same goes for FromSoftware, same engine from Bloodborne to elden ring. Wouldn't mind if these companies used a new engine now just to freshen things up for the rest of this generation.
When you say this, do you actually know what kinda of time and resources go into researching, developing, and testing a brand new ENGINE? Not a video game, but and entire engine? You do realize you'd like never get games?
The reviewer mentions that he doesn't know much about the Three Kingdoms Era of China, but also mentions that characters come and go. Those characters are legends from the Three Kingdoms Era, so if you know it already, I'm sure the characters have more impact.
Idk how they keep falling into the same exact mistakes and doing nothing about it. The loot issue has always been such a nightmare. This is the easiest fix, Onimisha 1-3 had it right, just have unique weapon types and level them up with souls.
The lack of enemy variety is disappointing. This has been a bit of a trend with games lately, it’s one of the first things look forward to in these types of games. Variety is the spice of life.
@@2canwin635 Nioh 2 had added an enemy or two every now and then. Dark Souls games had different enemies for each zone and didn't constantly re-use them.
I’m excited to see how many dynasty warriors characters we will see already saw zhuo yun, zhiang liang, Lu bu, and my all time favorite and the goat guan yu!!!
Feel like calling loot a problem is a bit off. For these games loot is operating in a Diablo-esque space. You wouldn't call this sort of intentional design goal a problem.
China is so under utilised in it has such an intersection history and Mythology, same as Ireland and other countries too. Maybe one day these settings will be explored more.
@@TheLloydLightning The only similarity between Wo Long and Sekiro is the parry, but even then, it doesn’t have that “feel” factor like Sekiro does. In Sekiro, you can feel every single parry, every single hit, and when you get hit, you can feel it. This game feels cartoony in comparison…
@@whiskslim237 most of the games today has rehashed enemies and maps. Look at the new Zelda coming out. reused maps and enemies and added little things and sell it as a $70 game.
Well, huge chank of Elden Ring's enemies were copypasted from their previous games. So they're not exactly new types. Asylum Demon makes appearence here as Erdtree Avatar miniboss, Sekiro’s Bull as Fallingstar Beast, Crucible knight is basically Black k**t, Capra Demon is playing Omenkiller, Lothric Knights are now Banished Knights, Hollow Slaves as Imps and I'm not even talking about how many bosses in ER were reused all over the world.
Subpar storytelling in team ninja games? They are better than fromsoft ones, fromsoft ones just hide behind "put it in the item descriptions", which is glorified text files
who plays a souls like for the story ? tbh from demon souls , dark souls 1- 3 , they never had the best story , as a matter of fact they had abstract stories left to be interpreted by the person whos is playing , so when it comes down to it , those games have like a million branches to their story, the combat and difficulty always shine in these games, the only thing im concerned about is the lack of enemy variety
Its not about playing for the story but when youre going over a game you have to mention all parts, he kinda just said it was weak with forgettable characters and spent most of the time talked about gameplay because he knew thats what takes priority
