If you like this you MUST watch Edgar and his brother Johnny do the song Tobbaco Road. Trust me, you won’t regret it. This song Frankenstein is an instrumental but in Tobacco Road, Edgar sings and that is the part that’ll open your eyes.
I don't know about that. At last year's Albinopalooza there were hundreds of talented albino performers during the nighttime acts, although not so many during the day. The Three Little Pigments were awesome.
This music blew my mind mind in 1972. It was only recently that I saw this live video and realized that Edgar was playing more instruments than just the keyboards and analog synthesizer. Mind doubly blown. That’s Rick Derringer on guitar. He had a solo career after this. Check out ROCK AND ROLL HOOCHIKOO.
Footnote: Edgar and Johnny Winter were both legally blind due to being born with albinism. Incredibly talent and a drive for experimentation. So glad you enjoyed the video.
The so often neglected concept, is that the drummer is totally playing off of whatever Edgar is going, and in a split second is able to to create a harmony between them, no matter how off the rails Edgar went. To watch an entire concert of Charles Ruff, create and carry the band was glorious. He never got the recognition he deserved which was a shame RIP Charles.
Dude I am so glad you guys checked out the Winter brothers. Those dudes are the epitome of "your favorite artists favorite artist", so many important bands and musicians have said throughout their careers that it was the Winter Brothers who influenced their sound and motivated them to start their bands
The first time I heard this was at the county fair. I was in Jr. High. I am so blessed to grow up with this music, I am so happy that you young men are appreciating it!
Had that Frankenstein Album when it was released in the early 70s. Off the chain! Edgar and his brother Johnny are legends in the music world... RIP Johnny Winter!💯💯✌️👍
I was younger than you all by far when Edgar and Johnny were exploring the power of Electronic. Glad you have taken the time to checkem out. That Guitar player did great in His own right. Look him up.
Thanks for sharing guys, I just saw Edgar play Frankenstein last year with Ringo Starr and his All Star band still rocking it at 75! Love your videos and all the different topics. 🎉
I don’t know why, but I started crying watching you fellas discover, Edgar Winter. You all were movin to that music because you knew, no you felt the pure talent go through you like electricity. So watching you watch that band made me feel it with you. Just like the first time I heard it with my friends back in the 70s. I’m 65 now but while that song was playing I felt like a teenager again, rocking it with my friends, so thanks for that. Love you my brothers. Matt.
The title "Frankenstein" refers to the fact that they had to do massive editing and splicing (parts spliced together like Frankenstein) to get something short enough for the final album version. Also, this was a pioneering song in that it was the first major hit to feature the synthesizer. Synthesizers were only a couple years old at the time. There were a few synthesizer tunes prior to this, but this was the first one done by someone who was first and foremost a musician, rather than an electronics nerd.
Love this song, and the fact y’all are diving in deep to different time periods and genres is awesome. Edgar Winter was a bad man! I don’t know if you’ve already listened to them but next, it would be great if you listened to some Wet Willie, a fabulous southern rock band we all frequently saw. They were signed to our hometown label, Capricorn Records, along with the Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker, and so many more. Macon, GA was a hotbed of music and we were blessed to see it all live. Jimmy Hall is the incredible lead singer. Grits Ain’t Groceries, Everything That You Do, Keep On Smiling are just a few of their great gifts to the world. If you want an amazing Allman Brothers song, do Whipping Post Live At Fillmore East. Epic! Thanks so much for all the enjoyment and interesting discussions.
50+ year old song, first time seeing that live version, thanks for sharing guys....love seeing you guys enjoy what I have for all these long years, keep it up!
Greetings from New Mexico, we are big fans of your channel. Stay blessed and continue to be great. Next reaction has to be Tobacco Road. You will be blown away.
The guitar player in white is Rick Derringer who had an early hit "Hang on Sloopy" and later followed up with "Rock and Roll Hootchie Coo" He is a monster on guitar and is on many other peoples tracks over the years. He can play! The bass player is Dan Hartman who also had a couple hits "I can dream about you." The caliber of players who back Edgar says much about his vast talent. He is still touring with Ringo Starr's All Star Band and still playing like this. Amazing.
The song on the actual album, the guitarist was Ronnie Montrose. He played on the Frankenstein album, They Only Come Out At Night. Ronnie left and formed his own band Montrose, which introduced Sammy Hagar to the world. Edgar and his late brother Johnny were both albino, so they had to stay indoors most of their growing up years. They both learned music and playing instruments. Johnny became one of the great bluesmen and a wizard with a guitar.
Standing in an outdoor stadium, watching this song being performed live, was a highlight for me in 1973. That energy displayed in front of thousands , was truly electrifying and extremely contagious. Everyone in the crowd knew the song from the radio or the actual album and the band did not disappoint. One of my favorite concerts that year.
Saw Eggar Winter play this past year on Ringo Starr's tour. Edgar can still play that like he did 50 years ago. Loved when this played in clubs back in the day!
edger was not on stage in the beacon show with ringo last year . covid and his keyboard was set up sad to see a empty keyboard was sad but we got a few new soongs that night
@@dennispitkofsky6026 Edgar was on stage for the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion show. He was magnificent for Frankenstein but also sounded good playing the saxophone for many songs. I waited three years for the postponed show because of COVID but was very happy to see it.
Thank-you dudes! I waited a month for you to check this out. I had recommended it after seeing your reaction to Focus’ “Hocus Pocus”. So, if I’m 1 for 1, how about you check out Grand Funk Railroad’s “Inside Looking Out” live from 1969. Another 3 piece band that will amaze you
So glad to see you enjoy these wonderful musicians. The young guitarist in white is none other than Rick Derringer, maybe best known for his hit single "Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo".
Edgar Winter is the blond on the keyboards, sacks, drums. HIs brother is also a musician - Johnny Winters. Rick Derringer is the guitarist wearing the white. You should listen to his song" Rock and Roll, Hootchie Koo"
Seen him live, was on the guard rail in the first row. Jones Beach, NY. Was so happy I got to see him. The sound in their mix I think was the clearest of the night. Solid band. 👍👍
I saw Edgar about 1980, and when he started Frankenstein, within the first 16 bars or so, he blew up the synth, and thank god pro musicians carry back up sh*t because he put on an awesome show for the hour wait we had to endure. These were the days that the synthesizer had to be programmed before you could use it. The Winter Family is as Badass as Badass can be when it comes to music. Edgar's brother Johnny died on the road in Switzerland 2 days after his last performance at the Cahors Blues Fest in France. These brothers are as musician as musician can get. I can only wish and pray that I could entertain people to the extent they have. You want to talk about 'white' boys, they are albino. If you notice on the video, even Edgar's hair is white. When they play outdoors they have to be totally blocked from the sun. They are about the few white guys that can seriously play blues. Johnny actually produced Muddy Waters before he passed away. I fully encourage you guys to do a deep dive into not only Edgar but Johnny Winter.
Caught both live at the Agora in Cleveland, Ohio... front row 👆✌️🤟😎💥 Two of the best, Baddest, fon-kay est😮 bro das that ever played a note... Johnny did blues on guitar since the '60 Gen...big bro knew!!
This is a great one. Lots and lots of talent. Still would like you to see Deep Purple's Child in Time Live 1970. Each one of the band went on to be listed as 'one of the greatest' in whatever instrument they were playing.
I remember listening to this song on my car radio back in the day on WLS had a rag top and the speaker in the back had reverb. Ah yes some good times and good music.
The guitarist is Rick Derringer. He's a MONSTER player. Played with Edgar's brother Johnny. Y'all gotsta check out MASTER BLUES ROCK guitarist Johnny Winter.
True commentary on the late great Jimi Hendrix. He was asked how he felt about being touted as the greatest Rock and Roll guitarist ever? Jimi's response was , I don't know, maybe you should ask Edger Winter that question? The Winter brothers both Edgar and his brother grew up with parents who were very musical, they both were experts on several instruments.
And this was on the radio all the time. How cool is that!?! Radio playing just about anything back to back. You would here a pop Motown RnB single, The Eagles, Stevie Wonder, then something like this. Very great time for music. Lots of genres being mixed together as well.
Hey guys been a supporter and love your guys videos they always make me feel better when I’m feeling down as I go through a lot and for making me feel a lot more uprising going to the gym working out all you guys fr and I’m from Australia down here we have a rapper named wombat the song is called runaway you guys should enjoy our style hopefully ❤
The 70s. Psychedelic rock. This band tops the list!!! Lots of hallucinogens in the time. Wild stuff. By the way, not a wig, both he and his brother were born with albinism. Lack of color pigmentation.
Time to hit up Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida if you're checking out Edger. This has always been one of my favorite instrumentals. Thrash Metal legends Overkill did a masterful cover back in the day. But back to my original statement: IRON BUTTERFLY - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida! Please check it out.
I’ve always loved this song. Just the music alone is an acid trip. But watching you guys watch the video was a ride. You guys deserve every follower you have. That was a fun video. Please make more. 😂
BY THE WAY, the Bassist is Dan Hartman, and he went on to write and sing one of THE BEST DISCO ANTHEMS, featuring the amazing Loleatta Holloway; "RELIGHT MY FIRE VERTIGO MIX"; Please react to it; we disco diehards rarely ever get our music reacted to, and believe me, you guys are missing out! 🔥🔥🔥
I went to see them in concert with my dad and all my brothers. John Kay and Steppenwolf were there as well. Great music and great times. Thanks for your reactions while watching. It was fun watching.
We saw Edgar Winter play at a bowling ally in Flint, MI back in the 80s. He had already peaked in the industry by then and at the time wasn't super popular, they did sell out the bowling ally so definitely had a fan base and some respect. We were HS kids, it was really cool. That freaky looking dude, dressed in sparkly clothes just tearing up the keyboard. His band was great too. Great show, I will always remember it and I have seen a lot of bands over the years. His brother was/is considered one of the great rock guitarists of his time.
So much fun watching you young guys enjoy the music I grew up with. I know you guys like some down home blues so check out Edgar's brother Johnny. You will not be disappointed
