Imagine a teenager going to the music store to see what was new and to spend some Christmas money. There was an album from a brand new group with a weird name, but that wasn't unusual. You take the sample copy to the turntable and drop the needle. The opening chords of the first song on the first album (Good Times, Bad Times) plays and you know something new, different and incredible just entered the world. I was that teenager in Jan.1969 .

I try to explain to my young friends that even though it was an incredible concert, we didn't know at the time (1970) that Zeppelin would end up being rock gods!🔥I mean they only had 2 albums out when I saw them!💯 That being said I'm so happy I saw them back then. I was blessed to see the original Led Zeppelin, John Paul Jones was still alive then.😢 I must admit this small town Texas country boy didn't know what to think when the curtain opened up for Jethro Tull and there's this crazy looking guy wearing a bright yellow cod piece standing on one leg playing a flute!😳🤪 LMAO!😂🤣❤✌

The world's first exposure to Led Zeppelin: song 1 on side 1 of their self-titled album from 1969. Calling it "Beatles-like" is actually appropriate, as this came out right around the time The Beatles were winding down. (Passing the torch, as it were.)

It may not be their best, but LZ1 has always been my favorite LZ album. Start to finish, there's not a bad song on it. I wore out 2 copies on cassette playing it over and over. Both sides open phenominally, with the B-side opening with JPJ on organ kicking off Your Time Is Gonna Come. Magical.

Nah, Zeppelin has ballads too. Try "The Rain Song" (which I've heard in instrumental versions on elevators and doctor's offices) or "Thank You," or "Ten Years Gone." Also "All my Love" for a later Zep ballad. Then there's songs like "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" (written by Anne Bredon and later recorded by Joan Baez), or "Since I've Been Loving You" which is a slow bluesey number. Of course Stairway to heaven starts soft and gradually builds to a hard rock ending. There are also a bunch of Zep songs that, while not ballads, do have a mellower vibe, sometimes more rock,, sometimes more folksy. Led Zeppelin has a huge variety of music.

The line is " when my woman left home with a brown-eyed man..." At 1:42 the bass drum triplet that John Bonham plays right here is something that not many drummers can do and John Bonham was an innovator!! There's a great interview with Carmine Appice who was the drummer for Vanilla Fudge!! He tells of hearing this song for the first time and when he saw John Bonham he asked him where did you come up with that Triplett?? And Bonham said "I got it from you!!" And proceeded to tell him which song from which album he was referring to and Carmine was a little bit taken aback!! In his opinion John Bonham had perfected something that he had attempted, perhaps!! Just one of many stories of the uniqueness of John Bonham!!

For me, their song 'Thank You' is one of their prettiest songs. The song is a 'Thank you' from Robert Plant to his wife Maureen for her love. The organ parts that John Paul Jones plays, Plant's vocals. Jimmy Page plays acoustic and a 12 string electric for added colour. Bonham's drum parts are just right for the song. Plant referenced other members of his family in other songs: 'The Ocean' has a line that refers to his daughter and the song 'All of My Love' is a tribute to his son. 🥁🎹🎤🎸 😎

"Good Times, Bad Times" was the 1st charting single from Led Zeppelin's debut LP in 1969, peaking @ #80/charted for 4 weeks. But the next single release was "Whole Lotta Love" -- their biggest Billboard Hot 100 hit, peaking @ #4. Led Zeppelin was Grammy nominated for Best New Artist of 1969 but lost to Crosby, Stills & Nash. Other nominees were Chicago and 2 artists with brief careers: Oliver ("Good Morning Starshine" from "Hair" & "Jean" from "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" - both Top 5 hits) and Neon Philharmonic for "Morning Girl." So 3 legendary groups got Grammy attention from the get-go.

Many great sides to Led Zep. Here's a list, you guys, that you can't go wrong with: "Hey Hey What Can I Do" (countryish) "Thank You" (gorgeous folky psychedelic ballad) "In The Light" (Eastern tinged, but bluesy) "Custard Pie" (funky filth) "The Ocean" (more off-beat Funk with high Plant wailing, including some accapella) "Dancing Days" (radio friendly Zep) "That's The Way" (racially aware Zep) "Immigrant Song" (warpath Zep) Hey Jay, you want some HEAVY Beatles, check out "Helter Skelter". The Beatles pretty much invented heavy-metal with this one. Another box checked. Hey Amber, you want a gorgeous song with soaring mellotron that will take you into the clouds - no not Pink Floyd. Check out the song "Out and In" from The Moody Blues, the "well-diggers" of "prog". Underrated band. If you hit-up Rush again try these: Red Barchetta (greatest car song EVER) Entre Nous (deep) Distant Early Warning (very fitting for these days) Subdivisions (school time angst) Bastille Day (Geddy at his screechiest) Lakeside Park (Rush at its most lovely) The Analog Kid (Soaring Rush) 🙏✌️🙏✌️🙏✌️

Something jumped out at me this time. This a RU-vid, which favored singles, but when I was a Freshman in college and we'd listen to music, we put on an LP. Rock Music, thanks to the Beatles, had evolved beyond singles. We listened to the whole side then flipped it over for side two. Good Times Bad Times becomes Dazed and Confused without a break and seamlessly goes on from there. It tells its own story. Long Jimmy Paige guitar concertos, Bonzo drum solos moving from ear to ear inside your head. John Paul Jones subtle bass dynamics controlling it. And Over Under Around and Through Robert Plant bleeding emotion and heart . When I'm saying is, if you really want to DIG LZ like we did. Do an album side. Jay! you like strong high pitched voices, check out "You shook me" on the same album. I also suggest checking out their all time classic "Stairway to heaven" studio version first then live. Thanks 😃 Peace!☮

Zep was made up of four extremely talented members. This particular song show cases each of their talents but take a second listen and enjoy John Bonham's contribution. It often gets lost is the momentum of the music Another great song (under rated) is "How Many More Times" off their first album. It's one of those songs that gets better with age. Keep up the great work you are doing. It's fun watching your reaction.

I believe they had 73 songs on the original 8 albums and about 68 of them kick ass, so it's hard to go wrong. But here are 5 i highly recommend. Ten Years Gone - the beginning of the power ballad. 3 incredible guitar tones in one song. Since I've Been Loving You - their best blues song, just amazing. Achilles Last Stand - 11 minutes of the most beautifully brutal drumming you'll ever hear. Over The Hills And Far Away - one of their best and most groovy songs. In The Light - their most trippy song, a synthesizer epic. Love you guys. When you get the chance let's hear more Scorpions, Night Ranger, Pearl Jam and maybe some Cake and Tool.

Legend has it Glynn Johns, who had just finished producing this single with Led Zeppelin in the winter of '68, brought a custom acetate vinyl of the unreleased single to the Beatles "Get Back" sessions in early 69....it broke up the band. 🎸🔥😎

Led Zeppelin were very diverse, like the Beatles. It's what makes them such a great band. Blues rock, folk rock, hard rock and ballads. Y'all should check out their song "Thank You" a sweet love song that could be a wedding song. In fact, Plant wrote it for his wife, Maureen when they got married. If you do react to it, keep in mind the ending fades out and comes back in.
