I would love a bonus episode of listener stories of sad out dated theme parks in their local. For example look up pictures of the Cork concrete zoo in Ireland.
Trivia: The music bed for this ad is called "Do It Yourself" by Paddy Kingsland, who was part of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop in the 1970s. Among other things he wrote and recorded the incidental music for the first radio series of the Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy.
I really wanted to visit this place back in the late 80's but something told me not to bother apart it was hard to find and my family don't drive. Now I hear that in the 90's the place fell into disrepair, high entrance price fees and for some of the rides as well?! The place died a long slow painful death in 1999 became a nursery and now I hear a police station has been built on this site! Still it did have some unique custom built attractions that I image wouldn't pass the W/OHS safety practices and increase the fees to go on as well. FoxFMMelbourne!!! Speaking of vintage, you guys really need to go back your vintage throwback fox logo head again as there hasn't been anything better since.
I went there in the 90's. The whole place was running on a tokens system. Each ride cost (x) tokens per spin. I was just a kid at the time, but even then, in my mind, I was thinking how crazy expensive each ride was.
I imagine so but even if it was a ripoff and I've heard that it was. You have the memories of it just to tell even how much off a ripoff it truly was?! Idk I'd still like to have gone atleast once...These parks were pretty unique over 30 years ago though...
I went there multiple times in the 90s, and I had a lot of fun, and some really good memories. I was a kid, so I always saw the good in everything, but I'll admit some of the rides were scary for the wrong reasons. The little bubble helicopter ride was so rickety, that even my dad was afraid to go on it, lol.
