@@sarasin3718 and I said - people do both, use music as a background, or focus on the the music and pay close attention to it, people can do both, but not at the same time.
My 'conspiracy theory' is that it's due to the fact that Wojciech Kilar (and deservedly so) has immense recognition as film music composer. For intance "Dracula", "Pianist" or "Portrait of a Lady" have much higher chances of being performed than his non-film related works. The thing is that audience prefers to 'recognise' rather than get to know his new things. And to be honest that's also true about myself - I'm much more familiar with Kilar's film music. But I'm 'learning' :-) I just discovered his "Missa pro Pace" (Mass for Peace) - amazing work!
I recommend listening to Kilar’s wind quintet, which is a very different style (early in his career) - sounds almost like Shostakovich at times. This concerto reminds me more of Phillip Glass.
@@nathanielechols4220 Thank you so much Nathaniel, I will definitely. But I never try to compare one composers' music to another. I like to seek out the individuality that all composers have if you scratch beneath the surface. I'm a failed composer by the way, but have had works played in public :-)
