When I was a student at California State University, Long Beach, I met an engineering student from Nigeria. I was excited to meet someone who was actually from Sub-Saharan Africa. In the course of the conversation he told me that his family had for a 1,000 years and still were slave traders. He said they mostly sold slaves to North African countries and into West Asia. He thought it was actually a good thing. He said if there was a famine they bought the teenagers, leaving enough food for the adults and younger children, if there was a troublemaker in a village that person was sold to the slavers to keep harmony and it prevented wars because of the threat of a captured warrior being sold. Cannot say I agree with him but it is his perspective.

In Nigeria, the police and military even coordinates more robbery and kidnapping at the same time disarming the population of any form of self defense. You pay the armed police to get personal security if you can afford it. If you need running water in your tap, you have to drill bore holes, if you need electricity you have to buy diesel generator, if you need job you have to own your own business where you have to pay exorbitant tax to the street thugs, local, state and Federal government. All without basic utilities and security feom the state. Yes, would prefer to remain under colonialism at least it life will be better of.

I've never heard this man speak before but gave almost this exact speech to someone. They had never learned about anyone being held in slavery other than blacks in America. Here in Britain we have been paying reparations for what seems like forever in the form of overseas foreign aid. Between 2010 and 2020. Britain went through a decade of austerity where all of over public services were cut, wages were stagnant, taxes went up to pay for the banking crisis but we still gave away over £175 billion in foreign aid. Our government thought that every other nation deserved our money more than us and went out of their way to tax us even more to pay for their vanity project! Two world wars and trillions pounds and let’s not forget how many trillions of dollars our American cousins have been forced to pay to all these ungrateful countries who are now decanting all their criminals in the form of illegal immigration!

The arguments by this historian are infact VERY POWERFUL AND NOT EVEN COMPLETE. In Britain 85% of the British public couldn't even vote until between 1880 and 1920 which means they had no political power even if they had wanted to change anything. On top of that the 'empire' didn't become an empire until the mid to late 1700s. So the British public wouldn't have been aware of there even being an organised empire for more than 150 years let alone the fact apart from the introduction of sugar and tobacco they didn't benefit from the empire AT ALl. The whole narrative surrounding the empire is at best unbelievably inaccurate and at worst a complete and total hoax. The beneficiaries of the empire's wealth were highly specific ruling and merchant elites that at the most represented 15% of the British population if not quite possibly far less. All these things are factually and historically a matter of record and 100% checkable. Most Britons never ventured 30 miles from their homes. This is why there are so many regional accents that at one time were even more multifarious than now

I was just Over 100 years for my family being here I think America should pay reparations oh my privileges come from my husband's family who was here I met. I am privileged. None of it is on myself. It’s always so COMPLEX where black folk are concerned, yet it wasn’t complex to compensate those who had family lost in 1930’s in Germany and let’s keep it REAL, the UK taxpayers, including those who are descendants of slaves, who seem to be easily dismissed although it is THEM who built the countries we all benefit from living in today. WE just recently, in 2015/16 finished compensating the SLAVE OWNERS for the slaves they ’owned’ when the abhorrent system was ‘ended.’ So let’s ask the question, who was receiving these unjust payments up to these dates? Slave owners just as the slaves had perished by 2015 so if THOSE descendants are able to receive compensation when they were the beneficiaries of slaves, why not those who have been kept in poverty due to their race whose ancestors blood sweat and tears saved these countries ridiculous amounts of money?

I once brought up how Rome had WHITE slaves, and someone actually fought me about how those slaves CHOSE to be slave because it was contractual slavery, had weekends off, they got paid, and had regular holidays; so they don’t count because black slaves had it worse. Basically saying that their slavery was more like a job. They got a lot of that wrong and apparently didn’t understand how it actually worked. Such as legal human/sex trafficking, torture punishment, didn’t actually have weekends off, etc. Honestly it shouldn’t be an argument of who had it worse. Slavery is slavery. There lies another major problem with "Reporations". Let's entertain for a second that we would in fact pay Reporations. You'd have a lucky generation of people receiving but what about the next generation? Are we to assume that the wealth of reparations would/could then be passed down through their generations? Likely not. Must would just spend the money up on extravagant living because let's be honest. If you are the type to fight as a victim to receive these compensations, you're probably already not living wealthy.
