Thanks for your really helpful videos. As a result I was able easily fit a Wolfbox 900 into my wife’s Beetle convertible - using the OBD made life simple. The rear camera cable run was not so easy, so got a professional to do that part. Great/easy interface. Thanks again

Hi DODO! Exactly! that would be great and honestly would given them a selling slight advantage if they changed this, since the molded on fuses is an issue I seen in several other hardwire kits. Cheers!
@@pontiuspilot10 Hi Rich! yep it varies from Kit to Kit, the Rove one here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ny-TvRnhTs4.html so far has been the most comprehensive one I reviewed. Cheers!
why so complicated? The heads of some hardware kits are already equipped with a 15A fuse at the factory. (as in your video) You can either plug them directly into the actual fuse slot or replace the existing 15A with another one. My ACC fuse, for example, has a 5A fuse. I took out the 15A and put in a brown 5A. The adapter is actually useless. It's only useful if you can't find a free socket for a permanent plus.
Hi Achim! Correct, the molded fuses are only good if you have a free socket that can provide ACC and another for BATT. If there is not an available free fuse socket, then a functional fuse tap is required, and here is my video on how I change the ends of the hardwire kit to a different fuse size ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Qzw9yUYN7zo.html Cheers!
Hi P! While it is possible to wire accessories directly to the battery most installers will not do that due to the extra labor involved. The cables have to be run all the way to the battery thru the firewall, and then connections at the battery will need to be made ensuring they are correctly fused and secured, then a source for ACC (switched power) needs to be developed etc. Cheers!
Hi, thanks for the video. Wolfbox advised me to use the 15 Amp SRS AIRBAG connection site for my constant power. This seems risky to mess with. Why would they advise that if it may make it less safe?
You're welcome Alex! I can't speak for Wolfbox or the representative that you spoke to (but yes I personally would not use an airbag related fuse spot) but here is my follow up video where I cover how I find ACC and BATT on any car ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K2iKXj82354.html However I strongly recommend profession installation due to the dangers mentioned on that video if erroneously tapping a critical system of the vehicle and the dangers involved with air bags mentioned on this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uZp95NbNlmM.html Cheers!
Thank you Craig! Ah most dash cams that require a 3 lead hardwire kit will usually need all 3 wires to be connected in order for the dash cam to work correctly. What I recommend when someone does not need park monitoring, is just to turn it off in the settings menu (most dash cams will let you turn off this feature). Cheers!
For anyone else who may be having issues with their install. My wires were labeled incorrectly. Meaning my battery was labeled accessory and my accessory wire was labeled battery. I only figured this out because when i plugged my accessory wire into my constant fuse terminal and my bat into my accessory, did my G850 start to record with the car off. Side note: you will know when the mirror cam is recording without the car powered on, because when you turn off the car, the mirror cam stays on, and if you tap the screen it will something like "inoperable, turn on acc mode " I forget the exact wording
Good info Terence! I have encountered this same issue with different hardwire kits ugh I really think the industry should standardize the colors for ACC and BATT that way all kits will use the same color and the label would just be a verification of that wires function. Cheers!
Hi YenNZec! Yep which kind of sucks because I seen this in several hardwire kits, it seems like a waste of time and money (for both the manufacturer and the customer) to have this molded on fuses that may or may not fit our car fuse fox. About 95% of time I end up cutting them off, LOL Cheers!
I like your videos. This particular one fails to address a very important issue. When using fuse taps or in this case, the molded fuse, there is a specific direction the fuse needs to be inserted. In the fuse panel, one side is the load (hot) and the other is the device. If you put the molded fuse in where the wire is on the same side of the hot on the fuse panel, then it will not be fused at all.
Thanks Kyle! Ah yes fuse taps have only one correct orientation (as you stated to protect the circuit). This hardwire kit video is only intended to be an overview of the hardwire features and preparation for installation. If you want to see the details of the actual installation (including fuse tap orientation), I cover that on the dedicated hardwire installation video I mentioned on this video hardwire kit video. Here is that hardwire install video if you want to check it out ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K2iKXj82354.html Cheers!
Can you use a fuse tap on a empty slot? My fuse box in the cab doesn’t have many options and the ones there are aren’t rated high enough for the tap fuse I have [15A] so need a [20A] or higher. Only have [10A] or lower fuses.
Hi B! Yes my preference is to use empty fuse spot. However I strongly recommend profession installation due to the dangers mentioned on this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K2iKXj82354.html if erroneously tapping a critical system of the vehicle and the dangers involved with air bags mentioned on this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uZp95NbNlmM.html Cheers!
Hi G! I have not connected a hardwire kit directly to a battery (while it could be done, it will need additional steps like including switching to enable ACC etc) Here is my install review so you can see how ACC and BATT ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K2iKXj82354.html However I strongly recommend profession installation due to the dangers mentioned on that video and the dangers mentioned on my full install video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uZp95NbNlmM.html Cheers!
You are a truly wonderful person. You deserve all the appreciation. I found a new version (WOLFBOX Dashcam Multifunctional Hardwire Kit (OBD). Do you recommend installing it? My car is a Mercedes-Benz EQV Can I use it without problems?
Thank you! Ah yes I actually just one got to review, so far is working well, here is my video explaining how they work and if they are safe to use ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aV5jQovoaCI.html Cheers!
Hey bro. Great video. I hardwired it. Quick question. When I put the car into P and take the keys out. My screen remains on. Is there anyway for the screen to turn off automatically after I take the keys out? I don't want to use the screensaver bc I was hoping the screen would auto turn off after I turn the car off.
Thanks Abir! Ah yes, when correctly hardwired the dash cam will turn off the screen (and enter park mode if enabled in the dash cam's setting) when the car is off. I would have the installer check all the connections (ACC, BATT & GND) to confirm that they connected to the correct locations for ACC and BATT (I seen cases where the dash cam stays on constantly if ACC and BATT are reversed or connected to the incorrect locations that does not provide power at the correct time for both ACC and BATT) Here is my follow up detailed hardwire install if you want to see that process ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K2iKXj82354.html Cheers!
Hi Jason! The USB connector used is a standard USB C connector so technically an extension or adapter could be plugged in. However I would probably not recommended it since some extensions and adapters are not pass through and may also contain components which while compatible with the USB C standard, they may not be compatible with the USB C connector as used by the dash cam (remember dash cam manufacturers use the USB C connector for the connector only, they don't necessarily follow the USB C standard). There is also the issue of affecting warranty if something fails down the road with the vendor potentially pointing to the use of an unapproved device added to the dash cam install. That being said, the good thing is that out of the 60+ plus dash cams that I have installed, I have not had the need to use an extension or an adapter so their use may not be common on the industry unless the installer is new or unexperienced and routes the cable in an usual and extra long path to the dash cam. Cheers!
Hi AutoFun, Your channel is one of my favorite and I have keep watching your RU-vid again and again... Recently, I have installed the Wolfbox G900 with Hardwire kit, and it works really well except one issue. Everything seems works but only parking-mode doesn't work so it would be great if you give me some advise. I have connected the Red wire (ACC power) goes into P/OUTLET 15A and Yellow wire goes into HAZARD and it would works, however, when the car engine is off, the dash cam says "entering time-lapse recording mode" and it start recording, however when I checked video, it records only 0.00 sec and it seems stopped recoding after that. I tried to switch around fuse/wire positions but still result is same. So it would be great if you could give me advise to fix this issue. My car is TOYOTA Corolla Fielder Hybrid 2013 model. Thank you for your help regard
Hi わさび猫! Ah yes that actually sounds like it's working normal. Remember if park mode is set to Time Lapse, the dash cam is going to compress many hours of video into a shorter video. So if you want to the see the time lapse in action, I would try leaving it for about 1hr then trying to watch the recording (so can get an idea of how time lapse looks) Hope this helps, Cheers!
@@AlexAutoFun Thank you for your comment, I am appreciated. And yes, it's set to time-lapse mode 12h/1st and left for 3-4hours but still the result is same...it seems dash cam power is completely off while parking mode and I checked Yellow wire with multimeter when car is off and it still says 12.93v so battery/fuse is not issue... Have you actually tried parking mode with any Wolfbox dash cam product? (G900-840) A lot of people on RU-vid introduce their products and they says "the dash cam has parking mode function!" but I never seen youtube videos that people actually try to use wolfbox parking mode and wonder if parking mode is really working or not...
@@ShinK-w2v Since the dash cams says that it's entering parking mode when the car is turned off, the parking mode function is working at that point. However I seen the cases like the one your are describing on some vehicles that shut power to specific circuits after a period of time (Specially on newer cars and Hybrids). So they installer may have to check that the places being used for power continue to have power after an extended period of time. And you can also contact Wolfbox for tech support, they may be able to walk you thru some troubleshooting steps. Hope this helps, Cheers!
@@ShinK-w2v Hi again! Ah yes testing parking mode is easy (I can probably make a video on it, good suggestion) What I do is I turn off the car but stay inside of it. I then wait a few minutes (some dash cams have a built in delay before park mode becomes active to give you time to exit the car) then I just tap the dash cam with my hand (of park mode supports G-Sensor) and that should trigger the recording. Hope this helps, Cheers!
Hi Sam! Ah good question, that will depend on the car's battery, size, age, health condition and state of charge. In addition to that you also want to take in consideration any parasitic draw from other items on the vehicle that use power when the car is off. This is specially common on newer vehicles. For example I have an older Jeep that can sits for months a time with little to no battery draw, then I have a 2017 car that will almost completely drain my battery in a few weeks if the car is not used (and that car does not have any aftermarket devices connected to it). Here is the battery tester I use ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kCNrfa8RUKU.html if you want to test your battery for capacity and health, it can also perform a parasitic draw test if needed. I do carry one of this on long trips ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5eoewaav43A.html just in case but again I think my case is a little more extreme since most people only run 1 hardwire kit at a time and I run several kits on my car. Cheers!
@AlexAutoFun just installed g900 with obd hardwire Enabled parking mode as triggered by g sensor. Put g sensor on high. The camera stays on after turning off the car. Never goes in parking mode. What's going on? Update: never mind. It takes about 3 min from the time I turn my car off to go in parking mode. Which is to me. It's kinda of long time.
@sambee5748 Hi Sam! I'm assuming your using the Wolfbox OBD hardwire kit but yes some dash cams have a delay before entering parking mode (to enable you and passengers to exit the car) to reduce false recording when closing the vehicles doors. Addionally OBD2 adapters that enable park mode use voltage detection to determine when the vechile has been turned off, some vehicles have residual voltage longer after shutting down, which in turns tells the adapter the vehicle is still shutting down and causing a delay until the vehicle voltage drops to normal levels when parked (video on how this adapters works coming stay tuned) Cheers!
What is the amps of the molded fuses or are they actually fuses or just dummies to make use of the fuse box? Want to use this with my can am sport side by side. It has a terminal module with always on and accessory/run posts. Wondered if could just cut fuse ends of and attach to the posts on the terminal module. Wondered though if the mirror actually has fuses (and why I asked in the first question) then I would need to also buy some inline fuse holders and solder them to each wire and put the appropriate fuse in them before attaching to the terminal posts.
Hi Peter! They standard blue (15A) fuses, and here is my video where I show how I replace them with functional fuse taps (to make the connection to the fuse box) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Qzw9yUYN7zo.html Hope this helps, Cheers!
Hello alex, The molded fuses attached on the wolfbox are blue which its 15A fuse I presume. So once I use a fuse tap. I need to buy 2 15A fuses for ACC and BATT?
Do any of their hardwire kits have a physical voltage adjustment switch? I know Viofo does. Debating bout a getting a Wolfbox i07 with a Viofo hardwire kit. I imagine it should work.
Hi! Yes while somewhat rare, some hardwire kit do have an adjustable low voltage cut off. Here is my video where I cover this and other important differences between hardwire kits ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Yky9_tTvwMc.html Cheers!
Hi Dea! Yes, when hardwired, it will turn off when the car is off and turn on when the car is on (and if you don't need parking mode, most dash cams will let you turn that function off in their settings menu). Cheers!
I have used this hardwire kit with a g900. It’s draining my battery. Anyway to set it up we’re the mirror turns off unless the g sensor sense movement or collision?
Hi Alan! that is strange, the low voltage cut off should kick in before your battery goes too low (mine hasn't drain my battery, I actually run 2 of them on my car, but I will update this comment if something changes). I would recommend having the installer check that the kit was installed correctly, and if you don't want to go thru your installer, I would also recommend contacting RedTiger for support, I'm sure they can walk you thru some troubleshooting steps. Hope this helps and please let us know what you find. Cheers!
Hi CX! nope remember, if you pull a fuse out and insert this molded fuses directly in there, the original fuse protection will be lost (say for example you pull a 5AMP fuse and install this molded 10A fuses, that circuit will not longer pop at 5A as designed, same if you pull a 15A fuse and install this molded 10A fuse, now the fuse will pop prematurely since it running a lower capacity fuse. Here is the video on how I replace the molded fuses ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Qzw9yUYN7zo.html and here is my install video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uZp95NbNlmM.html Cheers!
I found a 15A constant power fuse but the ACC fuse in my truck is 7.5A. Can I plug the red wire into that or must it be plugged into a 15A spot? I hope that makes sense.
Hi Jeff! Ah remember a functional fuse tap creates 2 separate independent circuits (each one with a different amp rating partially determined by fuses that are loaded into the each fuse slot in the fuse tap) The fuse removed from the car in the fuse tap bottom slot and the second fuse (top fuse) is for the hardwire kit. So they are each independent of each other. So I'm not necessarily looking to match a fuse amp rating on the car with the fuse amp rating of the hardwire kit (sometimes it does happens but when it does it's coincidence LOL). Here is another video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K2iKXj82354.html where I cover this in mode detail and here my other hardwire kit so you can see another example of the install ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uZp95NbNlmM.html Hope this makes sense, Cheers!
Hi Ayush! Yes this kit will work with the Wolfbox i07. Regarding using a different kit, I recommend sticking to the matching kit for the dashcam to avoid issues (both technical and warranty) Here is my introduction to hardwire kits video where I cover this in more detail ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Yky9_tTvwMc.html Hope this helps, Cheers!
i have the g840s dash cam by wolf box and i have the hardwire kit but i noticed the wire for it is 20awg and the fuse taps i have are 16awg, what can i do?
I added the hardwire kit and my camera will turn on , then after 1 minute it turns off. If I touch the mirror it will come on again then turn off. Ant ideas ?
Hi Gary! Not sure which dash cam you are using but sounds like you have "Screensaver" enabled which turns off the display after certain period of time. if you want the screen to stay on all the time, I would recommend turning off that feature. Cheers!

@AutoFun thanks I have 2016 Dodge Challenger, and I am just trying 5o figure out what fuse to use and how to hardwire the wolfbox. The challenger uses mini fuses, and from what the online diagram of the fuses boxes show, I should have extra opens with none labeled fuses.

@AutoFun I installed it it was the ground cable. It's working now I'm just curious how the time-lapse or parking mode works. Bc the camera turns off once I turn car off. I know In in the correct fuses bc I have some led lights one are constant and I have a kill switch for them. The other only turn on when I turn the ignition. Do I have to have the GPS part of the dashcam on in order for it to work?
@@hmontalvo90 You're welcome! Ah regarding parking mode, that depends on which dash cam you are using. I would recommend referring to the dash cam's manual to confirm the different park monitoring options for it and how to enable them. Hope this helps, Cheers!
