in a game filled with nazis, this dude manages to be the most evil character in the game

He's racist, He's sexist, He killed his dog, He abused his son, He sold out his wife to the Nazis, this scene was definitely one of the best in the game.

Dad: You broke your mother's heart!! BJ: Where is she? Dad: Well, I sold her out.

I love that the devs knew everyone was going to hate BJ's father, and they wouldn't let the game end without you getting a chance to kill him.

You slash his arm off and he doesn't even scream in pain. He must really have no feelings.

the story line about Billy and his father was surprisingly really fucking good and i loved every moment about his past.

It's possible Rip was jealous of his son, BJ. Rip tried to be a successful businessman, and even used his wife's family fortune to fund it. He failed at this and would never listen to her or anyone's advice when they insisted that he stop. Rip instead blamed everything on his family. As for BJ, he grew up and joined the military; BJ rose up to the rank of captain and served for his entire adult life and received much recognition for it. However Bj did it not for fame or profit, but for the safety of society.

“Everything you touch turns to shit!” It rips your heart out hearing that from a parent. I had to shut this game off a couple of times because Rip’s actor nailed the verbal abusive parent to well and it brought up alot of feelings up.

As someone with abusive parents who do nothing but justify their wrongdoing- this scene was incredibly cathartic

This cutscene is for all those sons out there who hate their dads. Found it a very powerful moment in the game.

The way B.J was acting so calm throughout his father's speech is just amazing! Listening to the music building up, I expected him to freak out and attack the old man, or at least shout him down, like they do in pretty much every other scene like this.

Reminder: not only dose he die to his son in one of the most painfull ways possible but hes also going to hell to be tortured and turned into a demon for the doomslayer to kill

The only good memory he had with his dad, was when they went down into the basement with shotguns and looked for ghosts. That one, single, decent memory. The rest was pure abuse.

moral of the story murder wont change what happend but it will make you feel better about it

Best part about this game after this scene is how BJ doesn’t even show any remorse or mention it at all after it’s happened. He just sees his dad as another Nazi asshole he’s killed.

Jesus, rip is such a hypocrite and a poor excuse of a father. Even Darth Vader was a better dad, and HE redeemed himself in the end of "return of the Jedi".

The fact that they showed up one good memory in the basement, just before we face him is just brilliant. It gets to show the way a kid grows appreciation for their father, no matter what, and it makes us think he might have been actually not that bad. They he destroys our expectations in the next scene. Just... LIKE A REAL DAD!

Now here's some damn attention to detail! They actually made two versions of this cutscene for the game, the ONLY difference is that Rip either does or doesn't have the scar on his cheek from when you hit him with the vase at the beginning of the game!

This man was weak. Im studying a 3 year course in Psychology and at the end of it Ill only *begin* to comprehend how weak BJ's father was. Narcissism, paranoia, delusion, all packed in a nice little dystonic bundle. I pity him the way you'd pity a rat in a trap. You sure feel sorry, but it was his own fault he got stuck in the first place.

The way he says "Daddy, I'm your son" kinda ripped me to shreds.

When you can actually relate to this situation between a father and son, the whole thing hits in a very specific manner. Tremendous writing.

If you go by the well in front of the house, you can hear him say “They way I see it we have two options: either I get a new watch, or you go down the well and get it” that instantly sent shivers down my spine.

If Hollywood is going to try and make another video-game movie, it should be Wolfenstein. Also, they need to recreate this scene word for word.

With the family background he has, no wonder Blaskowitz has issues.

I can't help but imagine Dr. Phill every time I hear B.J's dad talk.

used to think this guy was a cartoon character. Having met people like BJ's father now, it hurts how real this guy is.

I was actually hoping BJ would repay a few of the favors his father gave to him when he was a kid.

Rip is a horrible human being. Horrible excuse for a man, a husband, a father, and a friend. He blamed all his failures and unprincipled savagery on other people. He schemed and caused so much treachery yet he believes he's absolutely right and that everyone was against him. Someone who refuses to see the terrible errors of his ways is a true monster.

I absolutely love the cutscenes in the wolfenstein series. They actually tried with the facial animations and ayed out a really cool story. i still need to fnish watching a playthrough

Fathers are to love unconditionally and without question or hesitation, no matter how masculine or feminine their children are, no matter what they do or don't accomplish in life, no matter what makes them different form others. They never make their children feel worthless or like they want to commit suicide because they can't feel any happiness for a single millisecond with them around. he was a traitorous, racist, ruthless, abomination of a man and a worthless excuse of a husband and father.

It's like a wet dream for anyone who had abusive parents.

You know, it really says something about this guy that, after he gets his arm chopped off and an ax planted in his heart, most of the comments here are complaining that his death wasn't brutal enough. Easily the most satisfying moment in the game.

Terror Billy's absolute joy at finding his mother's ring intact makes this whole scene.

every cut-scene in the Wolfenstein re-boot is freaking awesome. great dialogue, great voice-acting, great animations, great camera angles... and all this comes together perfectly, to really trasmit the weight and the emotions of each and every situation

Is it a little weird that I see a bit of my grandfather in BJ? Mainly because both grew up with abusive fathers in the south, and both fought in WWII killing nazis. It's kinda neat, actually 😁

You know what the sad part is? People like BJ's dad exist everywhere in the world and to this very day and I mean like straight up shitty father's who do what he did to his family and to his pet. What's even sadder is sometimes the son's wind up inheriting that kinda personality from their father's either through admiration, or to take their frustrations out the same way on someone else...hell possibly even both. With that thought in my mind, it made it feel so good in this game to see BJ finally give his dad the revenge he deserves....well with the sacrifice of his old body in the process afterwards but hey that was gonna collapse on itself anyway since it was practically killing him from the inside. Not that I condone a son/daughter murdering ones parents of course but in this game with this specific character, his dad definitely had it coming from his previous actions.

Honestly, this scene was a MASSIVE missed opportunity. Since it was gonna be a trap for William anyway and this guy was set up as THE most personally evil guy in the game, it would have been SO much more satisfying if the player is given full control to cathartically beat/torture this evil bastard to death and THEN reveal the twist that it was a trap and you just bought the Nazis more time with your vengeance.

The sad thing is that there are fathers like this in real life..

This game... my god, this game... Was SO FUCKING amazing. The cinematics the story the gameplay. All flawless. I laughed, cried and bout shit myself at parts lol. I wish they could make this into a TV series or a movie so more people could appreciate this amazing story.

The reboot General Shepherd is voiced by the same voice actor as Rip.
