It's actually crazy how history repeated itself. Wolfenstein 3d pretty much started the FPS genre, but Doom came after that and got all the credit. Now the New Order revived the FPS genre and brought it back to its roots, but then Doom (2016) comes out after it and gets all the credit. Does that mean that Id's new game will be a Quake one that has revolutionary graphics and multiplayer? I hope so ;)

Luckily that opening stealth section goes by muuuuch faster on replay because you know exactly what to do.

You know that 90% of the stealth in that intro section is optional right? You can instakill powered down super soldiers with the pipe, grab their guns, fire at the connecting wire of the others, and they'll die quite easily. So you can do a mostly guns blazing way very easily. Guess most people missed that way of doing it.

Old Blood was what Wolfenstein was supposed to be. I was my favorite of the three titles. Definitely a wink and a nod to Return to Castle Wolfenstein 👍

Old Blood is soo good, I just wish it was a bit longer. BTW you can also make the nightmare in the asylum and in the Castle

I prefer the Old Blood as it's closer to the previous games with the whole occult angle, but with the gravy that is the new gameplay.

I must be the only person who's insane xD I actually really like the stealth mission across the prison block. I love the atmosphere, the fact that you have to hide from the super soldiers, and the entire area design itself is top notch imho, it's really enjoyable

Fun fact, after you kill Jägers dog, if you turn around and follow Jäger through the room he retreats to, you can reacquire all of your weapons

If you've played Return to Castle Wolfenstein, you'll notice there's many parallels between the games, obviously they're not the same "timeline" per say, but they're very heavily related. It's my personal favorite of the universe, and it has a lot of community mods/levels too!

Great editing. Strong script. Hope you blow up. New Order and Old Blood really were the last “Half Life” type games we got from the industry. Old Blood was the Opposing Force of the franchise, expansion on a small budget and under full price that refines the environments and design with crazier highs and lows. Wish triple AAA shooters had these sort of expansions still.

I just got this game today along with new Colossus. Cant wait to get off work soon and play it all weekend. Already played new order and loved it so much.

The reason you can't aim with the scope is that BJ's noodle arms can't keep the crosshair in the center of the screen.

Every time I hear “castle Wolfenstein” I expect lightning to sound like that one joke from Young Frankenstein

Yay, welcome back man !

This is honestly my favorite Wolfenstein game. It has the incredible gameplay of TNO, while also cutting back a bit on the hefty amount of cutscenes, plus giving us a quick run through some of the most memorable aspects of Return to Castle Wolfenstein without all of that game's jank. Sure, the weapons aren't as interesting as TNO's but if sacrificing that means better pacing, level design, and overall more interesting combat encounters, so be it.

I love the Ol Blood because it tips the hat to Return to Castle Wolfenstein which is one of the most Badass shooters around. The Cable Car mission is dangerously close the escape from the Castle in RTCW and I was surprised by how much it got me

Old Blood is basically a huge homage to Return to Castle Wolfenstein. The comparisons are similar: I the beginning you get captured and you have to escape the Castle, but Agent One doesn't get so lucky. You arrive at the village to meet the resistance fighters. Later the supernatural kicks in with the ,,Nasties" being reanimated by the essence and Helga being interested into bringing back an ancient monstrosity to life, but instead killing her off not being able to control it. Finished off by a boss fight against an resurrected monster to prevent it being released to the world

Old Blood story take a lot of inspiration Return to Castle wolfsterin, which you check out. Also there are female nszi garuds. Be ware the game system is based on half life health system.

How WW2 games went from this to "My team vs the enemy team" is beyond me.

The first Wolfenstein games I played was some random old mobile port and the 2009 one, which I still think is a highly underrated game with enjoyable story and gameplay. When The New Order was advertised at a local Walmart, I knew I had to play it, and it blew me away once I did. Both The New Order and The Old Blood are the only games I can think of that I fully played through more than three times (about 5 times each). Personally, I love The Old Blood a lot more than The New Order. The WWII setting in a massive compound with odd sci-fi elements, zombies, and monsters sat well with me than The New Order’s more expanded story. It also reminded me of the movie Where Eagles Dare, which I’m sure inspired the people who made The Old Blood.

The old blood is my personal favorite as well. I think it doesn't get enough love so I really appreciate this video.

NICE DUDE!!!

As a history buff I love some of the details. The intro says 1946, and we all know WW2 ended in 1945 (although I'm unsure this includes the pacific front). Another cool detail was a newspaper (I think it was outside the gate after escaping the the boat) advertising Normandy as a tourist attraction following the failed invasion on June 1944. Not only do we gain insight to how the Nazis won WW2 but also implies that Operation Overlord lasted for longer than the 6th of June.

As a serious and authentic Kraut I really appreciate 5:45. :D Man I need to play New Order and Old Blood again. The New Colossus was so amazing I just love every second of it.

I think this and Return to Castle Wolfenstein are tied for my favourite Wolfenstein game. The New Order is great but I prefer Wolfenstein thats mixed with some Horror/Paranormal elements and I think The Old Blood mixes the alt history Sci-Fi with the Supernatural Horror perfectly imo.

Did not know Old Blood was underrated. I bought the double pack for Old Blood and New Order. I was unfamiliar with the series so playing O.B. made sense to play first, “Old’Blood”. Never got around to finishing it but I did very much enjoy the gameplay, I don’t care for spoilers so the reveal through your experience seems neat.

Here's the thing, imo the reason why Wolfenstein don't deserve all the praise for revitalizing FPS is because its inconsistency. At some point it's trying to be a boomer shooter, at the other point it still preserve some elements from 'modern' slow-cinematic-cover based FPS. Even it's trying to be Half Life with its slow and methodical tactic in Old Blood (which, I have to agree is much better and overall my favorite in series). Saying Wolfenstein should be credited for revitalizing FPS genre is like saying all the award should go to Dead Island for making firs-person open world zombie a thing instead of Dying Light. But overall it's solid series and a must play for FPS or gamers in general

I liked the section at the beginning

I remember it was a cool thing to say 'x is so metal' when something was uber cool and absolutely badass. The Machine Games developed Wolfensteins embody: This game is 'metal'. And the gunplay....oh the gunplay.

The only bad parts were the beginning stealth areas where you have to sneak past the robodogs.

33:50 Fun Fact about this boss, I realized while fighting it, it only reacts to sound. If you stop shooting and moving and a zombie or enemy is approaching you, the monstrosity will attack the enemy and ignore you.

You can actually pinpoint ESG DEI creeping into Wolfenstein... disability section... pregnant boss babe cutscene... it was like watching a slow-unfolding trainwreck where Young Blood was the logical final conclusion.

Asking someone if he's a "Frankfurter" actually perfectly makes sense as it simply means asking if the other person is from the German city Frankfurt. I haven't played the game though so maybe our boy Rudi was actually refering to the sausage.

I was loving these game until it was pointed out to me how huge all the weapons are. The rifle started feeling like I was waving around a motorcycle and the pistols looked like small 4 cylinder engines. They are so JUMBO that it started feeling like a cartoon and my character was tiny like a action-hero squirrel or like a badass cat.

No imma be real about the things i didn't like about old blood: 1. Health and armor only cap at 125 2. Running while dual wielding doesn't get a perk 3. The 1st prison lvl does indeed suck And 4. The golem boss feels more like a bullet sponge

Finally somebody gives TNO and TOB unbridled praises. Incredible games with Amazing storylines with great and memorable characters and especially villains.

Old blood honestly made me forgo this series after playing it as it felt uninspired after the new order, I'll have to give it another go after this and see if i was on point, maybe playing in chronological order this time

I loved old blood probably my favourite wolfenstein it has great gameplay great weapons great enemy’s great art style and great characters. My favourite area was probably castle wolfenstein as going through that place blasting natzis was amazing but chapter 2 was also good and I did not expect it to turn into natzi zombies but it was a welcome surprise for sure!

Can agree on liking it more than New Order. The Bombenschuss is boss, the zombies and sawed off combo is supreme, and the kampfpistole is bangin'. ;) If only more games actually included zombie hordes as a potential story mode. I prefer the WW2 era feel of this game and the opening of New Order compared to the rest of NO. I'm a sucker for alt history, but New Order takes it too far after the intro. Need a Wolfenstein that takes place during the rest of the war. That would be so sick! Even if the Allies are destined to lose in said game, the contrast to actual history would be a magnificent selling point. Shame that New Collosus and Youngblood exists, yeesh!

I don’t think the new order had anything to do with how Doom 2016 turned out. The new order came out in May 2014 and 1 month later Doom 2016 already had a cinematic at e3 and two months later a gameplay teaser at quake con. Doom must have entered development at least half a year before that point.

I really love the occultism and the mysticism in this game, just like what the Nazis used to believe and what they are trying to achieve during WW2. I bought this game last week on Steam Sale 75% discount and it costs me only around 4$ and I think it is super worth it to buy especially the story is actually pretty good in my opinion (not as expanding as The New Order but I say for the price I got it is hella worth). I'm giving this game a solid 8/10

Imo wolfenstein new order, old blood, amd new colussus are a fantastic fps trilogy. 2 gets a lot of flak but i think the story really is the best there

I'm not sure we can credit Wolfenstein with Doom. There's no similarities between Doom and Wolfenstein. Wolfenstein is basically Half Life 2 + Inglorious Basterds. Heavily story based with lots of scripted set pieces and variety. Doom is basically an update on the classic arena shooter style. Not much story or scripted moments but an emphasis on movement , dodging slow moving projectiles and stylish kills. I don't see the similarity.
