My son had this. His pediatrician was wonderful and found it early. His pediatric cardiologist was amazing. Did the ablation and he has been great ever since. He is now 24 he got the surgery at about 14. Thank you for making a video about this.

I have WPW! Had a successful ablation in 2018. I remember having symptoms as young as age 9. Blackouts, dizziness, palpitations, tachycardia, etc. It wasn't diagnosed until I was 32 and my mother forced me to go to the ER after having a very high HR and chest pain for hrs. The hospital finally listened and kept me in observation overnight. I awoke to a cardiologist at my bedside telling me I had WPW. After extensive research, all of the symptoms that I had experienced since childhood now made sense. Sadly, previous trips to the ER resulted in them telling me that I only suffered from anxiety which afterall was not true. Thank you for this video. You give a great explanation that I can share with my family and friends when they are curious about WPW.

Thank you for your explanation. I was diagnosed with WPW Syndrome in 1978, I was 21 yrs then. No ablation back then. I had lost a lot of weight, chest pains and no idea what was happening. I went into tachycardia and went directly to my docs office. They did alot of things with the ECG and gave me an injection. After my doctor consultated with a cardiologist he told me i had WPW. I had episoides off and on over the 40 plus years. I would use my bear and breath exercise and it pretty much always took care and reset it. Ive taken Nadolol for over 40 years. I had an angiogram when i was 42 for non WPW pain. The only thing he found was MVP. Im now 67 years and i went to my GP feeling very ill. I was having SVT well over 200 bpm. By the time they hooked up the ECG it was a normal rhythm. He sent me to a local cardiologist. This doctor was an older gentleman. They didn't do any tests so he must have seen my ECG from 4 years ago. He said i didn't have WPW or MVP. So if i had it it must healed itself. ????? What should i think? How can I make a decision about my health when the information? The doctor that ran the test and read it 4 years ago said she could see that I had both WPW and MVP. Why even be tested if the results are going to be so wildly different? Very frustrating. 😠

Found this video after the "Understanding Heart Failure", that I watched because of my mom's condition. My WPW pattern showed during ECG three years ago. As a child I often had fast heart beat for no reason, but my GP didn't pay much attention and always said it was because I was an anxious kid. I am 37 now and meanwhile had few nasty episodes due to stress, so I am planning to go to a specialist, but this video was very helpful. Thank you!

Appreciate all of your videos. Feel as though I am learning so much as a survivor of multiple strokes with no known root cause yet. Right now the cardiologist is investigating my heart. Just completed a month with a halter monitor and preparing to have a loop monitor installed. Have had palpitations for multiple decades. About 6 years ago, the palpitations got weird and make me shaky and fatigued once they resolve.

Dear Mr Gupta, I appreciate your videos so much. I had some chest discomfort for almost 6 months, most of the time felt like missed heart beats and nowadays I had dull chest pains combined with random short sharp pain. I went to A&E just to be sure. Everything was fine. I do suffer from some anxiety for a long time, basically from my teenage years , but I've been eating vegan diet for the last 2 years. I've quit very recently. I was wondering if the vegan diet can have some effect as well as I saw few vegans complaining about chest pain or palpitations. My son is asymptomatic but bec the delta wave was still present during the stress test, the EP said to do the study and ablate it. It will be in approx 3 weeks. I’ve learned that many people have it done multiple times but I don’t understand why. I pray that his is safe and successful the first time.

I had a very symptomatic WPW syndrome, the symptoms were horrible, at an age of 18 years i barely could function and lived in big fear for a year. After 2 ablations its gone now and im so grateful for this and happy. I still have to take my pills tough because of high pulse. My question would be: does this mean that the syndrome can come back? Hi Doc! Can you do a video or answer this question on what can cause blood pressure to stay high consistently and blood pressure meds of all the classes don't work, without causing horrible intolerable side effects? I'm talking about 180/100 on average or even sometimes worse. Has stayed like that for at least 8 years. Nothing works so far that has been prescribed by MDs! What tests should be asked for and checks made to get to the root causes and not just force symptoms to decrease without solving the problem? Thanks!

My maternal grandmother, mother, sister and I all have WPW. I had to have a cardiac ablation at 24 because my HR would jump from normal to 220 bpm three times a month and I’d have to be cardioverted with adenosine. Thankfully, the ablation gave me a bit of a reprieve from the symptoms. Still have constant palpitations, but they stop before getting carried away...for now.

I have WPW syndrome but didn’t know until age 48 when out walking and suddenly my heart rate shot up. Went to ER and heart rate was 220. Had to have a shot of adenosine which was freaky but worked. Had an ablation a month later and no more tachycardia but it left me with frequent pvcs so now I take metoprolol. Have you heard of an ablation causing this?

Thanks so much for this, just been diagnosed with WPW via an ECG test after suffering prolonged palpations and visiting my doctor to be checked out. So now I'm waiting to be seen by a consultant and it looks very treatable. As its a congenital condition, would you advise me to have my children examined?

Curiosity of your title brought me here, and you had my full attention at description of symptoms. Being a white female of healthy weight has been used against me with every heart doctor I ever consulted so I stopped seeking medical care. I was born to parents with heart issues on both sides of my family, of varied causes. At age 31 I suffered a ballooning of my heart; my symptoms were classic of a cardiac arrest. I did not receive medical care because my (now ex) spouse thought it likely gas. The pain was so excruciating I could barely breath. It was nearly 20 years later, after being told, yet again, my estrogen protects me from heart attack, that I determined to find explanation to what I'd experienced; newer research led me to learn of "broken heart syndrome" which has a much more technical name; a heart condition diagnosed by the Japanese. The explanation of that clearly defined what I had experienced. I don't know if there is connection to that experience or if it came about due to an already existing condition, but in years to follow I began experiencing irregular heartbeats that progressed to where I was experiencing dizziness, (a very weird, lightheaded sensation in my brain) severe fatigue, slight nausea, and an overall feeling I might be dying. But for God, I truly believe I would not be alive to be typing this now. Some years ago my mother had an ablation for the arrhythmia she was experiencing. I couldn't find a human specialist to take me serious, but God had a plan for my life, apparently, as one day CBN came on the TV. My initial impulse was to change the channel, but for some reason I felt compelled to leave it. That day Pat Robertson felt lead to pray for someone with an electrical problem affecting their heart. I didn't think much of it until, as he prayed for healing, I literally felt an electrical surge run through my body; I expect my jaw dropped, as I was dumbfounded. The truly classic part of all this would be the skeptic I was, of such things; I ranked right at the top of those who scoffed at TV preachers and healing prayers, which accounts for my initial desire to turn off that program. Yet, of those miracles, I am living proof, as I experienced an immediate and complete cessation of those debilitating symptoms. I spoke of this to no one for a couple months, as I was on a wait and see; 5 1/2 years later I gratefully will speak of it. Now my body is going into menopause, I occasionally get some PACs, but not once have I experienced the death like arrhythmias that were killing me 6 years ago; praise be to our living God. Come to think of it, I probably should tell Pat Robertson about this, hmm......

So you can only DX it if you see it on a EKG? Does the PR interval always remain short even if you are not in the syndroome and practitioners can suspect this may be the sydrome but patient is not having an episode? Must be very frustrating for practitioner and patient . If a patient has a pacemaker is the sydrome undetectable ? Can a patient develoop the syndrome after a pacer is implanted? Too many questions? Sorry, just a nurse asking. Thank you.

I have WPW syndrome.. my 1st ablation failed.. doctor told me to have a 2nd ablation.. i hope next time it'll be successful.

Diagnosed with wpw yesterday.

I recently was told I have short pr syndrome. Is this the same as WPW? I have had issues my entire life with my heart jumping around or going really fast for no reason. I recently have had increased instances of my heart going nuts and sometimes it triggers nausea, lightheadedness or anxiety. I’ve also had chest pain so an EKG was done and I was told about the short pr which was also seen in another EKG that I was never told about. It is being sent to a cardiologist to glance over but I was told it was no big deal. From what I’ve been researching, it seems like it can be a big deal. How should I feel about this?

Thank you so much for explaining concealed pathways. My resting EKG is usually fine (developed inverted t-wave recently but apart from that it is normal). I've always been told WPW should ALWAYS show up on EKG, but was also diagnosed with it even though a majority of my EKG's are normal, with only a minority showing pre-excitation (always when in tach) so I was terribly confused as to how that worked. I understand now that I probably have a concealed pathway. Was mostly symptom free for past 4 years since diagnosis but recently had to get a cardioversion and find myself going down this road all over again! But meds are working and hopefully another ablasion is on the way! Wonderful explanation!

Dear Dr. Gupta. I’ve watched many of your videos and started following you on Facebook. I was wondering if you could please do a video on the Vagus nerve and how it can affect your heart. Two years ago I was having a shower and all of a sudden my chest started hurting (really hurting), I had all the symptoms of a heart attack, radiating jaw and neck pain, pain in the left arm and obviously the crushing pain of what I truly thought was a heart attack. By the time the ambulance the pain had subsided, my ECG was normal, I was just in a little shock. I went to hospital and bloods were normal the ER doctor said our body does weird things and discharged me. I saw a cardiologist and as I was due to have surgery they needed to be positive it wouldn’t be something that life threatening. I did a stress test and had a CAA - all normal. On speaking with my cardiologist again he said it’s a vague nerve problem and sent me on my way. I am on blood thinners from a previous TIA that resolved in 15 minutes, but showering is now out of the question unless it’s summer. I’ve had episodes where I’m not in the shower and each seem to be different. The last one was coughing, pain in the shoulder, jaw and arm. I’m at a loss, no one will explain this to me and if it can be fixed. Many thanks.

I have WPW with afib. I get an episode about once per year in which I go into afib and my ventricles contract at 250+bpm, sometimes with brief runs of wide complex v-tach. I remain conscious, but feel like crap and have to be shocked. Should I be worried this will cause sudden death?

What is the difference between SVT and wolff Parkinson white syndrome? It’s almost the same, both have accessory pathway right?

I had an ablation for this. I was fortunate that I never experienced any symptoms, but the ablation removed the delta wave fortunately! Had ECG’s since, no delta. I still get hours of many ectopic beats some days but this seems to be unrelated 🤷‍♂️

What can you do if unable to successfully do ablation in a young person due to risk of ending up with pacemaker?

My son was diagnosed in utero and thankfully meds managed it until he was 2 when he stopped having svt's. No abalation was necessary. Can this return when he gets older?

I get this intermittent squishing turbulent sensation in/around my heart on each beat, it is triggered after i eat (even tiny meal), or change in posture, or exertion, i get really fatigued when it happens, i also get bloating/constipation and lower abdominal pain and lower back pain, not sure what is going on, maybe parasite infection/blockage/tumour/heart murmur/compressed artery/nerves (vagus)? been getting steadily worse after over a year, doing my head in trying to figure this one out, any ideas, before i get it checked? wishing you all good health! :)

I have this WPW too! My episodes always very long. 1-2 days. My last episode was 3 days - that was very very bad. Now i am in again an episode now. I dont know what will happen with me - the doctors cant did with me in hospital last summer too. My episode now for 36 hours and my heart beat cant back go to normal rhythm. :// But i have many stress and big problems. Idk i can survive this episode. The heart can beat for 4-5 days too? I think i have 180-200 beat in sec. But i eat sedacur forte and i dont feel too the pain in my neck etc. WHen i am eating or drinking too many water or i eat chocolate when comes the episode! I am 45 years but this tarted in my childhood - i was 4-6 years old.

Wow this is a fascinating subject I have a pulse ox a meter that I used to measure my heart rate and breathing every once in a while my heart beats really fast I know why known reason when I am I left side mostly and I recorded it up to 215 to 275 heartbeats per minute I thought of the fluckPerhaps I have this

I have this condition, but i'm unsure if I should get it "cured." I get lightheaded when I get up too fast, sometimes my heart beats fast and hard for no reason, and it definitely does when i'm stressed and nervous. I also drink alot of caffeine.......... I'm not sure if my insurance would cover it.

What is your suggestion when the ablation does not work? I have WPW and had an ablation back in 1993 when ablations were a very new procedure and it did not work for me. My cardiologist now wants to try it again, since technology has changed so much since then. I know in some cases it still doesn't work for some people.

I,v got this.had the opp!they said I'm cured.ten years later,its back.now on medication. But I have the strangest feeling I was miss diagnosed in the beginning! I am a very fit 58yr old!have perfect body mass,but drink hard liquor heavily! (Go figure!)
