Bad advice. People try to live where they don't belong or can't afford. If your Mom and Dad Failed to Prepare for you for Real life then you are screwed. The Government is not our God, Mom, Dad. Daily wasting of the money you make will keep you a Modern Day Slave. A Renter is supposed to be an 18-25-year-old, anybody else made bad daily choices and failed in life. A home has a mortgage that gets paid off, A Rental never gets paid Off.Get Educated.

Wayne Dome wtf do you mean where they don’t belong? Some people are born into poverty and that is not the child fault if the schools are poor and dgaf because they are not the right skin color. No one chooses to whom and to where they are born you overly entitled asshole. No one thinks the government is their god except trump cult thinks lying ass trump is going to make Murica white again it’s a con. Get you head out of lying trumps ass. He is destroying. Wayne, what are those places people don't belong? If starbucks open a coffee in Toronto or New York, there should be some place within commute distance that you can reasonnably rent with the salary offered there. Otherewise that's wage slavery.
@WayneDome-dm8iu
@WayneDome-dm8iu 5 лет назад
@@GubekochiGoury I say this with intelligence Not hatred. People don't belong in places they can't afford to live in. Just because a Starbucks opens in a high rent area doesn't mean you should take the job at a wage that will not let you get ahead in life. Move to where you can afford and work to own part of this great thing called America. Living in a high rent area without the correct income is a bad choice in life.

it amazes me how the media and the government officials like to talk about how low the unemployment rate is in this country but yet can't and/or won't explain why it is that record numbers of people are late or defaulting on their debt payments what difference does a low unemployment number mean when all of these so called "employed" people are still going bankrupt

What about those folks who are working 2+ jobs, usually several part-time jobs without benefits, as well as those who should be or used to be retired but now because of the economy are forced back into the labor force to make ends meet. Kids can't find jobs because all the jobs they used to work are now taken by adults. Along with shrinking social safety net programs, we are in for very, very rough economic and social times in the near future.
@kcm4321

I think that it is more complex than what you wrote. Most of our youth have not been taught any type of work ethic. My mother is 76 and works a job in a lawyers office that used to hire young people to do the job and they refuse to hire young people because of reasons like phone addiction and they call in sick often. My friend has owned an ice-cream stand for 35 years and hires young people and he claims that in the 80's 8 out 10 of the young people he hired were strong workers now you are lucky if 3 out of 10 are strong workers. Our welfare system pays people twice as much money in resources to do nothing as we pay people that illegally enter this country to work their ass off. So why would these people work? One of my other friends works for a bank that is hiring people from India to do their work because they can pay them less because education is free in India. Yet that same bank gives out student loans and collects huge profits on them at the expense of our children and is allowed to hire people from abroad so they can maximize their profits.

What's really fun is these people are counted as employed. Just imagine what the jobless rate - not "unemployment" rate - will be when the gig economy crashes. Most of that shit is based on driving people around and/or delivering shitty, overpriced food. How many of these companies are really out there? When they crash tens of millions will be looking for work. Since these "jobs" currently are there to keep them busy while they slowly go under they won't have any savings.

Lara, Capitalism and America's corruption spread worldwide and the Recessions gave them MORE power. We see EVERY worker in EVERY Developed country suffering and making less. The GOAL is to put every country at one level meaning the level of the poorest countries. Sounds strange but the ONE PERCENT seems to be shooting themselves in the butt because soon no one will be able to buy their products and services. Capitalism is NOT the working people's friend.
@primotef8863

@Joseph Geiger The free market has been working. But after several hundred years it has not solved the problems it has had since it's beginning: inequality in any form, especially poverty. More have less and less have more. If we wait for it to fix itself, less will continue gather more, and more will have increasingly less. You see, the goal of people is happiness, not profit. There are ways of reaching happiness that don't involve profit. Profit is actually something that takes away happiness, in the US this is primarily caused by debt. Debt makes people unhappy. So people search for other ways to make themselves happy. Or at least some way to forget they are unhappy.

My wages went DOWN, not up, over the years. My hours went up as I saw my pay over time go down. My wife died in a hospital because her company health insurance DENIED her coverage for a work-related heart attack because she, quote, "had her heart attack after work hours," despite her boss forcing her to work 60-70+ hours and be paid for only 50 as a salary manager under threat of demoting her, which would have cut the health insurance that KILLED her in the first place. I fought them and lost, even to the point where I had to pay them for some type of "slander." We were hard working, paid our taxes and bills on-time, never were able to take vacations, and never were able to stop working because the money only became less and less even though our hours grew. After losing her, I lost our car, my house, the step kids, and our animals and had to move back in with the parents. To start, I'm a college graduate with a business degree that had to settle for a middle-management job because I couldn't get any employers to high for any more than 60% of the median pay-rate of my education and experience. Now, I've refused to work for nothing and am currently back in college (a community college, not getting fooled by a scammy college loan, all self-pay) and working on Cybersecurity certificates to once again enter the work force (1/3 completed before jumping back in), and I'm now 1 semester away from getting a new cybersecurity degree. My late wife and I were good citizens that paid our fair taxes and played by the rules and were snubbed for it. I learned my lesson and I will do everything I can to cut back at the corrupt establishment once I get my barrings again. This political establishment, the corporate Right AND Left are playing us against each other to ignore their hands stealing from us, taking our benefits and selling our otherwise american rights to corporations that sell us out again. The establishment is out for our blood, and they'll just take it if we don't stop them.

I work in the IT field in Boston. My colleagues and I all make about $100,000/yr. Because I just bought a used car, we were talking about the cars we have. Out of ten of us, six don't even own cars. Out of the remaining four (including myself), one drives a 12 year old Toyota Camry, another drives a 2002 Ford with a broken convertible roof, and another one drives a BMW, but it's over ten years old. Again, we all make about $100,000/yr., and we're still all driving old used cars. I can't imagine what it's like for people who make half what we make, which is a lot of people. What's wrong with this picture???

You are to be commended for your insight. It's true that a lot of people such as you and your associates are probably doing better because you have a high income. But that doesn't apply to everyone. You are wise to be worried about it even though you are not as directly affected because there are potential adverse consequences to the entire society when wealth and income inequality becomes too large. Study the history of the Weimar Republic in Germany between 1918 and 1933. You will see similarities. And we all know what it led to.

@@joevignolor4u949 Thank you for your comment, Joe. You're very astute to draw the parallel between the Wiemar Republic and what the U.S. economy is on a trajectory to potentially become. I'm amazed when I see what the median wage is compared to what the actual cost of living really is. To me, the numbers don't add up. I don't know how people survive day to day, but somehow or other, they do. I don't know if they're living on credit cards or what, but it just seems that Americans are working more just to keep up. Then I hear the statistics on wealth inequality, and our current policies just seem unsustainable to me. I'm not in favor of soaking the rich, but they're shouldn't be profitable corporations that pay nothing in taxes because of some sweetheart deal they brokered with the politicians whose campaigns they funded. I think that people are starting to wake up to the fact that things need to change. This is why Trump got elected, and why Bernie Sanders emerged out of nowhere, and Brexit happened. Hopefully, we'll fix this problem without sacrificing our capitalistic system.

@@timdunk7278 let me rephrase in your language. We're being attacked by people with more power than us and we should defend ourselves. Defending ourselves individually is less effective than defending ourselves as a group due to the concept in nature called mutual aid. The way we defend ourselves from economic manipulation is by replacing power structures with better more efficient ones. We can determine what power structure is most efficient by whether or not decisions that provide utility to the most people while not reducing utility for others are enacted most frequently. Democratic institutions are a good place to derive power from because it forces people in power to respect the needs of people to a higher degree than others. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Linda Susan ...So sad and so true! High under and unemployment of people 55+ is a fact! It's been covered up for decades! 14 years ago, I met 3 women & a man working at Home Depot in San Rafael CA. They were using CAD programs to design kitchen & bath upgrades during the housing boom. Every one of them was over 40 & under 60! Among them were well educated, "down sized" professionals, recent divorcees, men and women who needed the health insurance! Sadly, just 4 years later, the housing bubble collapsed and Home Depot quickly abandoned it's "boutique," kitchen & bath design service. Where did those people go? Older adults especially women, seniors are also living Social Security paycheck to paycheck. A $500 dollar expense can push some into homelessness. We've become a nation of wage slaves. Mr Trump promised to bring jobs back to America. But to date, neither he nor his daughter have made any effort to bring even THEIR clothing manufacturing back from China, Vietnam or wherever their sweat shops are that make their clothing, hand bags, costume jewelry and extra long red ties! Rust belt factories & mills are still empty & rusting. I don't see any new ones being built. Even those that might be in the planing stage will be using robotics, not the hundreds of semi skilled assembly line workers of yesterday. There will be no return to union wages and job security for miners, steel, or assembly line workers. We could put thousands in good paying jobs & careers rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure or transitioning from fossil fuels to sustainable solar, wind, geothermal electric energy like Europe, China & Russia are doing. That too was promised by Mr Trump. To date, we have no such plans. Day in and day out he tweets vitriol about his pantheon of enemies and fake news, while yet another of the children he caged died. Meanwhile the war hawks & bankers are eager to distract us from problems at home with yet another war in the Middle East and trillions more national war debt.

Back during the 1800's there were large numbers of workers in America who also were considered to be "employed" but they had to endure poor working conditions and a low standard of living. They were called "slaves", but that term isn't used anymore. Now we call them "fast food workers" or "associates" or "cashiers" or other job descriptions that are similar. But the principle is still exactly the same.

I’ll pay 1300 (in today’s dollars) a month for health care with all sorts of copays and coinsurance that make my head spin... luckily, my wife and I have no kids to help. The difference between what was and what is. 1) 1972 I made the equivalent of $29 an hour adjusted for inflation. 2) in 1972 I had full coverage healthcare, including dental, eyeglasses. Also included was Pharmaceuticals. Fully paid by the company ! 3) work was hard but bosses were NOT predatory then. Virtually a stress free workplace. 4) vacation 3 weeks paid yearly 5) no need of a high school diploma 6) 40 hour week....overtime was not mandatory 7) holiday paid and time off given This industry supported 120,000 workers in rural northwest then. Today the industry still provides 90,000 jobs. However, Reagan broke the union during the 1980s. A union sawmill WAS a great lifestyle. A sawmill town was vibrantly alive and fun. The union protected wages, healthcare, senority, and job security, GONE for us now. Replaced by low pay, crappy expensive deductible healthcare, dental, and eyeglass coverage. Men that brownose to protect themselves, and job, from predatory bosses. Rampant divorce, alcoholism, pain meds abuse, are epidemic. Pride has been stripped from us, replaced by low expectations and low self esteem.

When you say they won't take a job because it is not a good enough job just turns off the people on the right. Many of those people cannot get a job because employers will not hire them as they believe they will not stay in the job and it is expensive to hire and lose people constantly. Also give reasons why they don't take a job that pays to little because they will be sued as they owe money and their creditors give them a break when they are not working but if they get a job the lender will garnish their wages which means they will have almost nothing to live on. and can get no help if they are not making poverty wages in the first place, garnishment is not used in the food stamp equation.. It is the way our system works that works against people getting jobs especially in our well hyped well pushed debtor culture.

Does that mean if I lose my job and then after a short time of unsuccessfully landing another one I can just say "forget it, I'm just not going to bother looking anymore"? Then what? How do I pay my bills and buy food? What am I missing here? Have I been scammed into thinking I have to have a job to survive and have been a fool for getting up and going to work every day? You are missing a very big point! The number of people "looking for work" is a number that is falling but how are they possibly counted? What is counted is the number of people registered with the unemployment services. When in Florida what was a very good system that had folks calling every employer directly asking what jobs were coming open, promising vetted applicants, and not charging the company, and thus the best and hottest real openings: Was sold to a political crony as a profit opportunity. So calling every employer was expensive, and putting together stale lists from aggregators of aggregators was far cheaper and by insisting on regular reports that you had contacted these people was necessary to keep unemployment checks coming, and tossing people off unemployment for the slightest issue meant that more folk were tossed off the rolls than found jobs by means of the system. This not only decreased the number for unemployment but cut the costs of unemployment insurance. What I did not do was improve the job outlook for anyone. Combine that with a lack of enforcement of ADA when I did apply to a company that had insurance, the insurance would charge the employer more than what they were paying me because I had one of those "pre-existing conditions" and they would find some excuse to not hire me. So I would guess that there are millions of folks like myself looking for work, watching savings drop. finding something like disability or Social Security while skydiving without a parachute where life is possible until it is not> I would guess that any reporter that could document the reality of this and get it published would get a Pulitzer.

Dr. Wolff says that in last 11 years, deductibles have quadrupled. Well, interestingly enough, in March 2010, the Affordable Care Act was passed. That was over 9 years ago. The major provisions came into effect by 2014, but the moment there is even discussion of a law, it is going to impact the market. But Wolf is criticizing the Republicans? There's a piece of this puzzle missing here and he doesn't even acknowledge it. He also cites the cost of college. That's another government-induced "crisis" which really shouldn't be a crisis at all.

Thank You. The statistics or measurements released keep changing the base of measurement or the definition of a term. In the past the agencies calculating or producing the information would release the methods used, what they were measuring and what definitions were established in the method of their determinations. Over the last few decades this information has become more scant. In other words, what is being measured now is not what was measured then and they do not bother to explain that. So yeah, stock market up, economy great. Forget about the rotting hulks of skyscrapers in our major cities, or the wastelands of buildings in our all but abandoned small cities and towns.
