The more I learn about the old comics, the more I realize how much the devs were just huge fans of the source material. And man, the ending graphics for CotM and Marvel Super Heroes are just gorgeous! Also, thank you for highlighting the composers, as well! Despite their games containing some of the most iconic music in the medium, I feel like Capcom's composers don't really get the spotlight they deserve. Also, just so you know, I physically bristled when the Wily Capsule 7 theme started playing LOL

I always knew Wolverine was going to be featured. He is the one character players like to pick the most. He is insane with all the combos we do with the ol' canucklehead. And on a fan's note, his theme from MSHvsSF is my most favorite. So mellow and so awesome at the same time, almost like using it for a promo on Toonami. As as far as voices goes, I like both Cal Dodd and Steve Blum as Wolvie. They brought the type of attitude and aggressive nature to the character, no matter what game we play or what show we watch. In short, whether in animation or in gaming, Wolverine is the one go to character we pick, whatever game we play. Never forget that, bub! Well done. 😉

Like most 90's kids, I was introduced to Wolverine through the animated TV series. Re-watching it now though, you can tell that Fox Kids had to work extra hard to try and keep Wolvey's cool factor, and in a lot of parts he ends up being just silly. Like his infamous response to Cyclops, when Cyclops tries to tell Wolverine that they have a job to do. Either way, Wolverine is definitely more of a badass in the games and comics than he was in the 90's cartoon, but that cartoon has charm like no kids cartoon can seem to capture these days. Thanks for taking me down Nostalgia Street TSF, much obliged. Great video.

Yeah, it's kinda funny looking back at the animated series and realizing that he never uses his claws on anything that isn't a Sentinel because of censorship. Still has it's charm though, and that one bit of him just punching Cyclops in the stomach unprompted lives rent free in my head. Thanks for watching!

Imo Wolverine is the poster child of the VS series, right next to Ryu. Its why they are always side by side in a shit ton of posters and promos(except for MVCI but who cares about that trash lmao). Wolverine at the time was probably the second to first most iconic super hero, and ryu was(and very likely still is) the most iconic main character in any fighting game ever. Seeing Ryu in the MVC3 trailers get his ass handed by wolverine and then in the final trailer when he was reaching out for Ken, Wolverine ended accepting his hand and ends up saving him as well as Cap his was pure magic and had so much emotional impact and investment for a simple trailer where no one even talked that outclasses most of the MCU. Good times man

Wasn't really up to them. Disney took over marvel by then and MVC series was trying to mirror the MCU. Marvel no longer own the rights to the X-Men or the fantastic four, so a lot of characters that we had liked from MVC 1-3 simply weren't available anymore.

@@XinGraves13 Marvel only didn't have the film rights to the X-Men at the time and could have easily included X-Men characters in video games so it was really more of a petty move they were doing then to devalue the X-Men brand so they could get the film rights back from Fox. What's even more sad about it is that Marvel Infinite came out at the perfectly wrong time since Disney acquired Fox only a few months after the game's release and by 2019 Wolverine was front and center on the box for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3.

I kind of feel like Black Panther isn't really meant to be a Wolverine replacement beyond the superficial aspect of them attacking with claws. Wolverine's a relentless rushdown character with pretty great damage output, whereas Black Panther is centered more around creating crazy cross-up situations and has way lower overall base damage as a result. If I'm wrong though and that was the intent then yeah, pretty poor job at making him the Wolverine function

UMvC3 made a lot of really weird, unnecessary changes to a lot of endings for some reason. I dunno if they felt they needed to make them feel different from the original release or what, but I can only think of a handful that aren't downgrades.

Have to say marvel super heroes vs street fighter is my favorite, it’s somber tone is very standout to me. I actually thought wolverine theme in marvel super heroes to be ok until hearing it fully now. The song goes crazy. Still might not be favorite of the bunch but it’s damn great

Wolverines marvel vs Capcom 1 theme is undoubtedly my favorite Wolverine theme and I'm glad it came back and was remixed in ultimate marvel vs Capcom 3 it just captures a vibe for that's Just so iconic for Wolverine while also in my opinion still having the sad, sorrow but also tough and gruff duality to his character. the person that composed it did a excellent job I love it!! also great video 👍!!!!

Ahh yes, Wolvie, I honestly don't have much to say tbh, I'm sure you can kinda notice a trend with me not having much on the X-Men characters and that's really just me not being into X-Men all that much, which isn't really new for me, I don't dislike them at all, they've just been a part of Marvel I've not been as invested in as much. As for Wolvie in the Vs games he's pretty good all things considered, and that's all I have to say, he good. I'm kinda surprised that you didn't mention Jubilee in MVC1 ether tbh. 23:43 Being kind of redundant there Logan. And I do have one thing to say about his COTA incarnation, wtf even was that ending? I feel like I just watched some sprite animation parody called "Wolverine in 1 minute" or something like that, and where did the music go when they were in the ship? I'm just baffled by it.

...I completely forgot about the Jubilee assist. Damn. As for the CoTA ending, most of those endings are way more elaborate than most of their other fighting game endings they'd done at that point, so I just chalk up the weirdness to them experimenting.

Happy Anniversary to the first Capcom made Marvel fighting game. Even though X-Men: Children of the Atom feels weird for me to play (compared to the later games), I have the utmost appreciation for it since it gave us one of the most beloved crossover series in history. Same sentiments for Wolvie. One of my favorite X-Men in comics, shows and movies but fighting him is something I dread. Which is lore accurate, now that I think about it.

Yeah, CoTA feels a lot more experimental (in a good way!), and you can tell they were taking a lot of concepts and seeing what worked. I feel like Darkstalkers 1 is very similar in those regards (though DS1's impact on the genre was more immediately obvious)

My favorite Themes in X Men Childeren of the Atom are Omega Red theme and Psylocke theme and when it comes to Marvel Super Heroes my favorite Themes in that game are Wolverine,Spider Man,Dr.Doom,Phylocke,Captain America and Jurggernaut.

Xmen mutant apocalypse had a small cameo in this vid but I think it would it been accurate to elaborate on that game. It was the clear that this was the origin of his overall style and even some of his specials we would see in the fighting games.

I'm glad you mentioned that, because I had considered bringing it up for Tornado Claw, since he technically had that in Mutant Apocalypse first. If I'm not mistaken, CoTA and Mutant Apocalypse were more or less in development at the same time, and even though MA released a month before CoTA, I didn't want to make a definitive statement on which games may have influenced the other during development without some kind of official sources stating it, so I ended up omitting it. I do wonder which development team came up with the move first, though!

Well technically speaking, Akuma's playable in every version, not just the Saturn port. But he's essentially a contractually obligated guest character there (IIRC, one of Marvel's stipulations for CoTA was that a Street Fighter character was put into the game), so while he definitely kick-started the idea of Capcom fighter crossovers, X-Men Vs. Street Fighter is generally considered to formally be the first Vs. series entry.

The Fatal Claw super is him dragging his adamantium claws against themselves to generate a spark (look at his taunt). I think you can find small examples in the comics but, you can really see it in the opening to the 90's cartoon towards the end: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sAkL2-vh2Sk.html You can also see his claws generate sparks when they hit hard objects in some of the Fox movies. If I had to guess, it has to due with adamantium being a vibranium alloy. Captain America's shield generated sparks when it was scratched by Black Panther (Civil War) and creates a shockwave when hit by Thor's hammer (Avengers 1, 2 and Endgame).

The only ending related thing in the series affected by team composition is the dialogue after the Cyber Akuma fight in MSHvSF and Spider-Man & Venom's endings in MvC1, and those all rotate between generic, non-specific lines. Wolverine's ending in MSHvSF is just a follow up to Akuma's X-Men Vs. Street Fighter ending.

@@TheSeventhForce I can’t say I really blame you because I know it’s low hanging fruit but I genuinely don’t like superhero movies because I find most of them to be artistic hollow and feel more like there made by corporate executives rather than a artists who want to convey an idea or emotion to the audience because when I watch a movie I want it to be entertaining but I also want to feel like I learned something about the world from watching a movies and to me that’s what good cinema is it’s to covey an emotion or idea to the audience while also being entertaining as well.

Yeah, The Punisher was technically the start of that partnership. The official MvC Complete Works artbook even acknowledges it as well; they feature material for the Punisher game in the same capacity they do for the fighting games.

In marvel super heroes, why does the announcer SOMETIMES tell "INFINITY!" It doesn't always do the shout.

It depends on the move! If it's a move that originated in MSH (i.e. Weapon X, Psylocke's Psi-Maelstrom), the announcer will shout Infinity. If it's a super from Children of the Atom (Psi Thrust, Juggernaut Headcrush, etc.) the X shout happens instead. Sometimes it'll just get drowned out in general by game sounds, but it always plays one of those two voice clips depending on the super.

@@TheSeventhForce it was in one of the Marvel encyclopedias that released ether before "Marvel Now" or slightly before "All New Marvel". So somewhere in-between 2012- 2015-- 2016 the latest. Sorry, the only name I recall is "Marvel Encyclopedia". I specifically remember reading it because I asked my comic store retailer for the latest encyclopedia and he came back with like 8 of them from different years, and when I saw that (James Howlett, New York NY, 1816) we joked about four hours on how Wolverine's actually remember where he lives, but won't tell anyone 'cause his family is super embarrassing. In case you wanna know; I was looking for Omega Red's last name. I knew it was given but I could only remember reading it in an encyclopedia as a kid.
