For people who are blaming the husband for being the enabler. Its called co-dependency. The husband is mentally stuck being the caregiver because he loves his wife. The wife likes to be taken care of and won’t do anything on her own. Its a vicious cycle and a very dangerous dynamic.

It's strange how she said "I'm looking forward to starting this process." when 10 minutes ago she chowed down on crispy chicken and fried crap. I think there is some kind of cognitive dissonance going on with these people...they think the minute they engage with some sort of medical process they'll magically lose the weight with no effort at all.

As someone who suffers from an incurable spinal condition that is rapidly taking away my ability to walk - nothing annoys me more than this woman's attitude. Some days i literally feel like i have to starve myself to keep my weight down so it doesn't make my disability worse- but I happily do it so i don't become a burden to those around me. What person wants to be a burden to the people they're supposed to love? The trick is finding something less harmful to occupy your mind so thoughts of food aren't constantly revolving like a Lazy Susan!

Honest question, where do these people get the money to eat fast food every day? I couldn't afford that.

I don’t mean to be insensitive and others have said something like this I’m sure, but I just don’t understand how anyone gets to this point. Your son can only see you in like a 6 foot radius because you cannot physically move, but it wasn’t a problem before? I just don’t get how it gets that bad. I understand being overweight and using food for comfort as I’ve done that myself, but there has to be a point where you stop and think “I’m going to die if I continue” WELL before even 300 pounds.

How does someone get to a point in life where they do not have any broken bones, neurological issues, paralysis etc - but they just stop using the bathroom and do their hygiene related thing on the bed!!! My grandpa was 96yrs old - had two surgeries on his hip and still refused to use the bedpan - he would walk with assistance and support and use the bathroom to do his business. Cannot accept this level of self sabotage.

I'm sorry, I've struggled with weight and weight loss my entire life but I don't understand how someone gets to this point. When I've gotten to a point that daily tasks got harder (I've never gotten to impossible...) or I hit a certain number on the scale that was it, I went on a diet and lost weight. If I quit the diet and gained it back I went back on the diet. I just don't understand how anyone can see the number 300 or more on the scale or be unable to function and still choose to keep eating. I guess it's an addiction like opiates or alcohol but it's certainly sad.

Why does TLC keep uploading these as if they’re new?? Then people are commenting like “I HOpE sHe GeTS hELp”. This episode aired in January of 2014, it’s from season 2. Season 12 is about to start in March….

‘i take care of him son’ ‘if he refuses to come to me in my bubble than i can’t and won’t help him’ wow. kid need to be taken off of it and given to people who will care for him and love him. it’s not taking care of your children if you can’t move and he has to come to you and you can only partially move your arms and stay on your bed.

yes, the husband is an enabler. however, addicts, including food addicts, will often verbally and emotionally abuse those who oppose their addiction. its insanely difficult to sit through that, which is why enablers do what they do.

As a Physical Therapist, who knows they had to add a Speciality in Bariatircs is absolutely insane. Also having to transfer someone who is larger in nature is very difficult. When I was in the hospital setting I made patients rehab, as encouraging them to exercise too. And a lot of morbidly obease patients wanted things to be done for them. I again encoyraged them to use stratagies to help them plan and be more independent etc. I am not a small woman, but I will not helo or co-sign on someone placing themselves in harms way

not being funny but if you’re too big to get out of bed, then it’s literally a self correcting issue. If you’re too big to leave your bed to food, then you will go without food until you are able to leave your bed. Your body will eat your excess stored weight so you will not starve. You will loose weight and mass to a point where you can move. You will not maintain that size. So either she’s lying and she can get out of bed, and she’s lazy, or she’s manipulating and guilting and controlling her husband to feed her enough food to maintain her gargantuan size. Just don’t give her any food and drink apart from water and rice, greens, vegetables and some lean, non-processed, organic meat. She either will quickly get out of bed, or she will loose enough weight until she can. either way, there’s no excuse for someone to be able to maintain that size - being literally immobile and apparently being physically unable to out of bed, if she really can’t.

How's he going to be "in trouble?" What can she threaten him with? That she won't eat it? Thats a good thing. What else could she hold above him, sex? I doubt they've had sex once since she hit that weight. What possible way could she "punish" him for not listening and how could he "get in trouble?"

I cannot bear to watch this. Same old story - family members have to supply the food but they do not have to buy the JUNK that is requested. They do not have to cook it and resent it to the obese person sitting in bed. Just says NO. This woman cannot get out of bed so if the JUNK food is not given to her, she will get used to eating more healthily,. What a terrible example for her little boy

The thing with Penny is.. if she gets better health-wise, she loses her disability.

I could have sworn I left a comment, but I can't find it. Anyway, I just watched the whole episode online. And this lady did NOTHING but started up eating the way she did before all this started. The network should show the footage of what the patient eats when they get home to the doctor. And then have the doctor watch the footage with the patient when they start lying to the doctor. She claimed in the full episode that no one taught her how to eat the low high protein, low carb diet. But he did! Plus she got to learn the whole time she was in the hospital and they were feeding her. But I think the doctor messed up a little. Usually he makes the patient go home and come back with the goal he set for them and prove to him they can do this. She did not have to do that. She never left the hospital and had to do the diet on her own. But when they come back with just a few pounds lost and claim they did everything right, they are living in a fantasy world. The more weight you have to lose, the easier it is to lose the weight. Unless you don't change anything. Then no surgery in the world is going to help you. And there is no weight loss drug out there. If there was, there would be no fat people. We all have something to learn from the Chinese (not anything about their labs (covid)). But their eating habits. You don't see any fat people over there. At the end of the episode, it showed her eating with her family the same way she always did. And by what I saw on her kid's plate, it looks like her kid is going to follow the same path his mother did. For being such a young kid, his plate was overflowing with the same junk his mother was eating.

If you're a prisoner CLOSE YOUR MOUTH AND OPEN YOUR OWN JAIL CELL, It's that easy . But I know a lifetime addiction can be hard to over come and for your addiction to be something you need to live, food.

I always think about the vast cost of the food consumed by people who don't work and live off the state, how do they afford to literally feed their addiction? It's not like they're out hustling like drug addicts, are they generally just in masses of debt?

I am just in awe, thousands tax payers dollars are used to move and transport obese people. You know insurance is not footing the bill 100% so who is paying so these people can even get to the doctors office or hospital? It is one thing to help people with medical conditions but it drives me crazy paying for someone who did it to themselves by over eating.
