Pirate's story:
A few years ago, we very unexpectedly came across a picture of Pirate on a local shelter page. She had been found when she was younger after a pretty rough start in life. And then she had spent the majority of her life at the shelter. She had a lot of particular needs that most families couldn't accommodate. And thankfully for us, we fit all of the needs that she was looking for in a family.
We decided right away that even though we might not have her for very long, whether we had her for three years or for three days, we were going to make the most of the time that she had left. We were going to try to make up for the first 11 and a half years of her life.
There's something so amazing and fulfilling and rewarding about adopting an animal that's really in need. Whether it's an animal that has struggled before or one that's gone hungry, or maybe one like Pirate that has spent most of their life in a shelter. When you give that animal the love and compassion that they deserve, whether it's for three years, three days, it's ultimately going to change their life. And I think for us with Pirate, that's what it was about.
At the end of the day, that senior's going to change your life too, just like Pirate has changed ours.
