In the Bible, in Matthew chapter 4, Jesus meets a woman at a famous well. She did not have a socially acceptable lifestyle, yet Jesus showed her compassion (therefore, "He was her friend..." in the song). Also, Jesus talks about a fountain of living water, which is symbolic for eternal life. The woman thinks He meant that she would become a actual springing fountain (hence, "She was a fountain then..." in the song). I hope this helps!
i love how his songs have little things in them that tie them to some of his other songs... like around 1:27 in this one, it reminds me of "we watched it all night, we grew up in spite of it" from romulus. :)
Diego Rodríguez all of his songs has some kind of a connected lore, everything has a thought behind it. That’s one of the main reason I like him so much.
Just to let you guys know--apparently this is from the album 8.21 A Blue Bunny Compilation. You can find it for sale online, I think (have not purchased it). Also Sufjan wrote the song Far Physician's Son for it, which is streamable from Grooveshark, along with Woman at the Well.
Im glad there are so many fellow sufjan heads.... im sure you all are very cool....honestly we should start a FB page or something.....i dont see any one being a sufjan fan and a "bad person" at the same time....
I agree, Sufjan's music stirs up something in the depths of my soul The subtle harmonies create perfect moods to reminisce. His songs echo an aching familiarity, yet I can never place it. The music carries emotion, but inspires it even more. That could just be me though.
I love that i found this now, but do you ever wonder how you'd be if you found certain songs earlier in life? I donno but Sufjan has to be my favorite composer of music of all time :)
This resonates with me.. but I wish I could hear each sound and vocal clearer.. I know a man who could do that for you. would love to see the lyrics posted
bryan, and I don't recall what it was exactly but it was me who deleted it. Ha. I didn't want to offend anyone else. ; ) Anyway, thanx for being so nice. Have a lovely Thanksgiving Day.
this song I really love the melody and I love all their songs ... only someone could explain me the lyrics of this song talking about? is that I would like to make a dedication of that song but the lyrics do not understand enough achievement and I would like someone to explain to me .... Thanks I love this song: D
Actually, they deserved it. Though there were good ones, most were religious hypocrites that would keep the "law", but their hearts we're far from God.
@@lizardpeoplepoetry Aw, that's not fair. It was an observation, there was no condemnation. He was extremely gracious to her, especially when considering how taboo it was to even speak to a woman in public in that culture, much less a Samaritan woman. Yet Jesus showed her love and saw fit to reveal eternal mysteries to her. The story of the woman at the well kills sexism, just like how the parable of the good Samaritan kills racism & prejudice. Pharisees, on the other hand, made other people's lives unnecessarily difficult. They needed to be told what they were told.
