A missing hiker was found dead Friday afternoon after she disappeared during a hike on Camelback Mountain.
The woman in her 30s was hiking with a man along the Echo Canyon Trail, and the man told authorities she overheated and the two separated.
The male hiker continued up the mountain while the woman turned back towards the parking lot, and she was found dead hours later.

The guy she was with doesn't sound like he's a gentleman at all! Leaving another person in this case a lady visiting from out of state* by her self and finish the hike leaving her alone! Wow! *Out of state, meaning someone not used to hiking our terrains and in our extreme climate conditions!

As a native I must say splitting up is the stupidest thing a person can do. But playing devil's advocate here... We weren't told the experience level of either hiker. Echo Canyon is one of the most deceptive tails in the valley when it comes to beauty versus danger. Going from well defined in one direction to almost non existent by just turning around. It's shaded in parts and is even damp after heavy rains. I can fault someone for thinking, "Oh, I can see inside a person's livingroom from here. I can just call for help if needed." Chivalry aside, it is an easy move for the inexperienced to make. Besides, have you ever met the persuasiveness of a Bostonian woman?

@Jeffrey Hagelin Unfortunately common sense isn't as common as we'd like. For the life of me I don't know why they don't run an ad campaign here every spring and summer about the dangers of our heat. People always hear, oh it's a dry heat, and never that it's brutally fast and efficient at killing. Add in 100+, high dew points and humidity, and the human body overheats rapidly. Even in the MOST experienced and acclimated. Like I said, that was dumb. But if you understand search and rescue, the concept of "just around the bend" puts even the most seasoned at risk.

he will, he doesn't deserve that guilt though. it's not THAT hot out there right now, and he was out there too so I'm sure he felt it and didn't think it would be hot enough to be deadly. I'm thinking she probably had some other underlying health issues at play besides just heat exhaustion.
@RoyalRoses
@RoyalRoses 3 года назад
@@dummkompf btw... temperatures reached over 102 in that area today. Boston very rarely reaches anything above 90, averages around 82. "Generally, caution should be taken if over 77 degrees (Fahrenheit). Above 82 degrees is considered ‘extreme caution’ - heat-related illness is possible with long exposure. Over 85 is dangerous - heat illness is likely and heat stroke is possible. Eighty-nine and above gives a high risk of heat stroke". You would never in a million years need an underlying illness to get heat stroke in 102 degree temperatures, its bizarre you would even assume that. People die from this every day, especially when they aren't familiar with such high temperatures or left unattended because they quite literally become delirious and can't even speak their own names. Somehow still not that bad, especially for her, right? Your whole point is invalid but even if it weren't, it stems from "how was he supposed to know she wouldn't make it?" Idk man... maybe because she told him exactly that?!? He sees shes in distress, but she also tells him this! What does he do? He takes the water, tells her to walk down a trail she isn't familiar with while her brain is literally melting, and then he leaves her to continue. He is the reason she is no longer alive, his selfishness is the reason she is no longer alive. Hes also an experienced hiker... she isn't. You'd think he know the "stay together rule", or he does and just didn't care. Even if what has been reported is 100% accurate, his actions are absolutely deplorable and I can't believe a single person would disagree with that. The other aspect is this entire situation displays such bizarre behaviors from such a seasoned hiker, something more could be at play. She had no other option but to die, he had the option to save her and he didn't. You're insane.

@@RoyalRoses wow that is a hell of a lot of assumptions in your post. where did you hear about how their interaction went? Or that he took the water? I'm guessing most likely he offered to go back with her but she told him to continue and said she'd be fine and just wanted to go back and rest. 102 is not that hot at all, I honestly don't understand how someone can overheat that badly in such mild weather. It's not really dangerous until it's like 110 or more. I bet if she had sat in some shade near the car and waited for him instead of panicking and walking around in the sun making it worse, then she'd still be alive. personally, I take precaution for the cold when it gets under 77. That's when I start needing long sleeves and pants. 82 is absolutely perfect weather, couldn't get better than that.

Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are nothing to be messed with, they are SERIOUS THINGS and you should KNOW THE SIGNS and what to do to bring your temperature back down. Common Heat Wave Signs and Symptoms: Rapid pulse Muscle or stomach cramps Excessive sweating Weakness and fatigue Clammy and pale skin Nausea or vomiting Fainting Make sure to get to a cooler location, rest, and rehydrate if you or your little one start to experience any of these symptoms. Left untreated, heat exhaustion can become heat stroke-a much more serious condition that may require medical attention or hospitalization. What is the correct treatment for heat stroke? If you suspect heatstroke, .call nine-one-one emergency Then immediately move the person out of the heat, remove excess clothing, and cool him or her by whatever means available, for example: Place in a tub of cool water or a cool shower. Spray with a garden hose.

another news report said they went before the 11 am hour. So any rule of hiking in heat would not have helped.

What did you won't her in a 2 piece pants suit ?? my goodness its over a 100 degrees. Why don't you just cut to the chase with your racial narrative finding anything you can to complain. Stick to the topic we are morning a very tragic loss and all you can come up with calling this beautiful woman a man because only men can wear wife beaters. I bet you 100 to 1 the man who left this poor woman to die was a Caucasian man just like yourself. So sad.
