@@AW-xl6hu Disguising her call so that the attacker wouldn't suspect it was the police she was talking to. She ensured he didn't intervene or get away before they got there.
@@XXXmarquise I got that. I thought there was some deeper meaning w the pizza. I was thinking like scraped skin was cheese, the swelling was the bread, and the blood was the tomato sauce or something like that. I tend to read too far into things.
@Vector Smart Looking back, I think it isn't that hard to realize she confirmed she wanted to call 911 and kept talking about her address and where she was, while confirming his questions. That's smart especially when in distress.
Dispatchers are trained to LISTEN and trust their gut feeling. They are also trained to ask yes/no questions in case someone is in the room with the 911 caller. Calls like this are also played during training. All 911 calls are treated as REAL emergencies until proven otherwise. If a dispatcher is good at his/her job, he/she will be able to tell if a call is an emergency. He/she will make extra sure that there is no emergency.
I much prefer how we do things in the UK. Our 999 emergency services operators are much better trained, the control rooms are better equipped and professional. They are very polite and efficient, we wouldn’t be without them. You dial 999, BT handle your call and dispatch you to the emergency service required. Then you speak to that service’s control centre for your area. You should all listen to the heroic 999 calls made over here, on RU-vid. Some shining examples of bravery and fantastic communication; such as the children who have called and the deaf man who tapped to respond to the operator.
You know what is frustrating to think about? People prank call 911 and probably say stupid stuff like “uhhhh can I get a pizza” and because they wanted a quick laugh, the next time the dispatcher hears something non police related they might incorrectly write it off as a prank call. It may not happen often but even once is too many
@@oxicon I think prank calling is pretty funny most of the time-but not to 911. U really can be charged if u trick police into thinking ur in danger or waste a disbacher’s time when real ppl need real help
At least it’s more apparent in a situation like this that something else is going on as opposed to a prank call. One sounds devoid of emotion with a hint of worry in the tone. The other is likely to sound like laughs are being held back.
When I lived at my Dad’s, the alarm company not only had a safe word but also made sure we could speak freely. They took more care in a call triggered by a falling case making the glass break go off than the specific phone line requiring police and/or emergency aid.
This hits me somewhere in the feels. The Dispatcher leads with more Empathy than I've ever witnessed outside of a Therapist office. Listening to the Dispatcher calmly explain "This isn't where you order pizza..." instead of hanging up, getting mad, or accusative. His ability to even be open in a circumstance where he could be pranked. The training to Listen and keep the caller on the line is what allowed him to make the realization that this was serious and real.
They are taught to listen and the Dispatcher says no other Dispatcher would have caught on. WOW wonder how his co-workers think of his statement: Mmm They aren't should never hang up on anyone, they are taught to ask questions. Plus the he was going to hang up, the lady had to stop him by saying No, No
@Jade Crystal he's saying we're all mature enough to respect the dispatcher and make jokes unless there are some people making fun of the dispatcher or the situation and being rude about it who are idiots. It wasn't rocket science

@SS the worst part is, in my country domestic abuse needs "EVIDENCE". Which means if I call the police and they come but my dad stops, they can't arrest him. They can only do that if he goes crazy at them. Even if I show them an audio of him threatening people it's not breaking the law.
@SS I'm assuming this is a troll post, but I'll bite. As a man, I would be ashamed of myself if I ever thought that slapping my SO was acceptable. Any man who would resort to violence against their partner, isn't a man. He is just a hairless ape incapable of rational, human thought. Sometimes men need to duke it out, sure. But if you "have" to use violence against a women, at best, you are a coward. In reality, you are a pathetic excuse for what a man is supposed to be.
Stout Lager I worked as a 911 dispatcher 20 years ago and it was part of the training then. There was a recording we listened to where a woman called in and said she was going to be late for work. The dispatcher caught on but by the time officers had arrived, her estranged husband had killed her, her parents, and 2 children. He then shot one officer and put the gun to his own head.
Creative Common Yes it happened about 30 years ago (the actual crime). And strangely enough when I told my wife about it she had known the family for several years when she was younger. She said she stopped going to their house because the father was giving her a very weird vibe. And to be clear on the training, I had to study calls and what to do for 6 months before even being allowed to talk to anyone, and another six months of personally supervised call taking before being put in my own. The amount of people that call with stupid questions can burn you out fast though, when you can see 30+ people waiting to get through on 911 and people are asking things like what is the number to the trash department? After you just got done telling an 11 year old that the police are coming and trying to keep her calm as she hides in the closet while her mom is being raped 5 feet away. I believe 8 of my old coworkers killed themselves. I got out when I started realizing what that job was doing to me.
THX 1138 I’m so sorry that you guys have to deal with this on the daily. Dispatchers truly don’t get enough credit, thank you for the lives you’ve saved. Hope you’re doing well now!
@@jamboz its not a taught thing nor required by dispatchers tho, he caught on tho, some training can walk you through how sometimes people can sound weird because they are in danger but not this style of call.
@@picklelily1it’s not, we aren’t trained on this at all. If it was standard practice and everyone knew about it, it wouldn’t work anyways because the abusers would catch on when their victims called it in
Ungoogleable o_O If it’s an actual police call and you hang up, the dispatcher would probably go to prison because they could have killed someone’s life
This is the best idea ever. I used this idea when I was in a dangerous situation by an ex last January. He was drugged up, being abusive, and threatening to shoot his roommate, so I knew I had to come up with a clever excuse to gtfo of there. I emailed my landlord and asked her to call me and tell me my apartment was flooded (while I had her on speakerphone). She did so, saved me from that sh*thole and I’ve never gone back.
@4 Fake if you're religious then you should know that females are the reason why we're all fucking dying in this never ending cycle of death in this place of genocide. Lol not only that I enjoyed that, it also pisses you off even though you're being sarcastic 😂
I totally understand that people in this situation should be aware of this genius idea but spreading it all over the media could potentially put them at more risk if their abuser knows what's going on. This operator deserves a medal.
If it's carried out right they won't be the wiser. It's important to educate people on how to protect themselves and to train 911 operators on how to listen.
Imagine if instead of saying, "This is the wrong number," the dispatcher just hung up thinking it was a prank call and the lady didn't even get a chance to say "no no no you're not understanding."
This is scary because growing up it was drilled into every woman's head I know and mine included that if you're in a dv situation and cannot safely call 911 you need to call and pretend like you're ordering a pizza. Like I even took a self-defense class where this was brought up. So the fact that it's so unknown to the actual people on the receiving end of this is a little bit horrifying. I wonder how many people's lives were negatively impacted or ended because of this miscommunication between groups. 😢
@@surlespasdondine I remember having heard it somewhere before too. That being said, as a generality, it sounds like lousy unrealistic advice meant to appease people to me. If you're in that kind of situation, you probably couldn't order a pizza either. Even touching the phone at all will probably just get the phone thrown across the room. It's not like you can plausibly say 'can you stop beating on me for 5 damn minutes so I can call dominoes?. That's just not gonna fly. Besides, the more people know about it, the less useful it is as a code. You're not going to fool anyone talking to the police in pig latin either.
@@h445 Maybe you weren't, but my mother and grandmother sure taught me from a young age. Never implied I leaned it outside of the home. Edit: My apologies. I thought you were replying to me specifically. However, that doesn't mean girls aren't taught this
Glad too, but not surprised if he had. There have been situations where people have called 911 for things they shouldn't have...like PIzza. That's why he said listening is so important as in picking up more than just the words.
Haha I mean..hasn't everyone seen this 100 times since its been posted everywhere since 2009? This was like on ebaumsworld for fucks sake haha, that's how oversaturated it was I thought everyone had seen this by now in the last decade, I mean they cite it in dispatch training hahaha he couldn't hang up, until it's 110% clear they aren't in danger But yeah It's still a classic, sure
I love this story and the fact the dispatcher was keen enough to pick up on what she was actually saying. Give that man a citation, a week off with pay, something. She was smart when she called and he was a great listener, something we could all work on.
Very good on both of them. First the woman for disguising her call to avoid getting caught, and secondly the dispatcher for putting his sharp instincts into action and getting help for the woman. 👏👏
@Rafael Suprayogi right? it horrifies you the first time you see it. then you think, "which of my friends can I send this to to fuck with them?" and for as fucked up as it is, it has not been taken down off of youtube in over four years.
Everyone praises firemen, EMS and even cops that actually do their job, but people tend to forget about 911 operators and emergency service dispatchers. These guys are the unsung heroes.
Unfortunately his training is very very outdated. It’s common knowledge by law enforcement and DV agencies who train hotlines and 911 that the ‘ Pizza ‘ call is used for DV. I can only hope this is a very old video. - former DV survivor & now certified DV Advocate and Counselor
@@tjeanette4870 The ENTIRE country is outdated with 911 training!! I don't know why you're singling out this one particular Department. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-llP2Ujg7WJw.html
Credit where credit is due. Both the dispatcher and the woman were as cool as they come. For her to be that calm on the call and not get too rattled at first when it sounded like the dispatcher might hang up is really amazing. I work in emergency services and I can tell you most people are not that calm and resourceful. This is an amazing exchange for both of them. Wow!
We are also trained in other requests such as plumbing, construction, directions or anything other than a normal emergency 911 would require. If you call 911 we automatically assume the worst and ask as many questions as possible. The first is ALWAYS the address. Next, if it were this situation, the dispatcher would ask, "you do realize this is 911?". The next answer the caller gives tells us exactly what they are calling about. Most states have a text-911 now for situations like this where you cannot talk. Call if you can, text if you cant.
Thing is, the abuser can’t be tipped off. I like her stern tone “No, you don’t understand...I need a pizza at apt-“. Dispatcher was a pro too telling police to keep sirens off. What a great story.
Yeah, like, send backup or... like a backup pizza, you know. We need help here, I mean, with our hunger for pizza, of course. Uhm... so my dad is hitting mom-- uhh he's hitting moooments of extreme starvation, right. In terms of not having enough pizza, that is, because you're a pizza restaurant. Haha, totally not freaking out herehe'sgotaknifesendhelplol haha. WHERE THAT PIZZA AT, YO...
Yeah. Years ago my friend called for an ambulance because his father fall in the bathroom, went unconcious and was bleeding from head and a operator said that he is not going to send an ambulance because he is a teenager and it's propably a joke. 😑

I did the exact same thing one time but because I was a male the dispatcher made fun of me and said “you’re a man, defend yourself” I’m much better now but that situation really affected how much I trust the police. Men go through abuse too.
Yup. Men deal with a lot of issues (which, especially these days, are in sum more harmful than those women face, but that's such a hateful and untrue thing to say); but there's no fuss made abt it so who would know. "Only women have it bad, men live like kings & are adored & respected".

@@Insert_Name_Here908 You must not be aware what some 911 dispatchers are like. You can find videos on RU-vid of bad 911 dispatchers that have mocked people in situations, or even hung up on people and that person later dies because they didn't get any help. It sucks, but there are unfortunately judgemental and incompetent people in every job field.
