I just felt happy for her when she said that her ex-husband helped her build the house. We don't know her story about why things didn't work out but his humane gesture shown is wonderful. Thanks to her friend who wanted her to be safe. God bless you all.
True i mean my room is a bit long im huge guy i need a but space but i do have 2nd bed but its my workshop garage on abandoned old ford pickup truck as bed
What good is it to live in a 30,000 square feet home 🏡 and you are miserable and don't have any peace . I rather live in a 400 square feet home and have peace , joy , happiness and love in my heart .Priceless 😁
Tiny homes like that are "illegal" because they can't be taxed. Let's be honest - the more we find ways to live off the land and less off of the government, the more restrictions they will create to expand their reach. That's why there are restrictions with farming, using rain water, solar panels, cannabis, etc. Even though tiny living is not for me, I love watching videos like this to get more storage ideas and ways to live off the land to save as much €$£ as possible! I really enjoyed this video with Christine's candor and her peaceful voice. Thanks so much for sharing!! ❤️
@PandawdyBob It boils down to if the home can or cannot be taxed. If it can, there are certain codes/restrictions the homeowner must adhere to - which creates a bit of a taxation trail so the government can make money via taxes accordingly.
@Bev Webs - I apologize if you feel I was being a hater. I'm not hating on this woman's tiny home. Honestly, I think it's awesome and super cute. I'm hating on the fact that the government has grown so large that this woman's home is deemed "illegal" - solely because it can't be taxed, and it's a shame. Tiny homes, in my opinion, can be a solution to homelessness, but since they can't be taxed...
Don`t know who I like more, Lilly-Mae, or this lovely lady, both are equally wonderful. Christine has incredible spirit, determination and is so so happy.
Not only does Christine's ex-husband seem like a very decent man and of course she was fortunate that he helped her so much, she must also be the fine person she comes across as on the video for him to be willing to do so. She deserved the help; he wouldn't have helped her if she hadn't deserved it. They both sound like fine individuals.
@Marco Deo Is it just possible that you could think before you form your remarks? This woman IS paying taxes: tag tax-gas tax-household items tax-propane tax: In other words the ONLY tax she is avoiding is BEING PAID already by the landowner upon whose property she is residing. Why the disgusting attempt to hide hatefulness behind the remark?
Hi my name is Leslye. And I am a dental assistant. Retired now. I was forced into retirement due to health reasons. But not long after that I discovered tiny living. I was looking for a way to live cheaper since I was under 50 yrs when I had to stop working. You are a very smart lady. You have secured you financial future. Having a home paid for means a lot as we age. I ended up buying a little land and we are converting a barn. Your home is beautiful. Looks very comfortable. Don’t let anyone tell you your home is illegal. You spent hard earned money on it and are living well. You pay your taxes so why should anyone have the right to tell you that a home has to be a certain size. This war on tiny homes needs to stop because plenty of people are buying the homes being built. And if they want to pay for a big home it’s their business just as it’s your to live tiny. A home is a home no matter the size. I hope you never encounter any problems. Enjoy your home. Leslye
Dental assistant / dental nurses should get paid a lot more . I always wanted to be dental assistant since I was a kid , but I have done my research and read how most DA are miss treated and are worked like a dog . Folks, sorry for the complaining . had to put my two cents in ..lol Yeah more builders need to build 900 sq homes or less .
I have a 24 foot camper converted and its a mini home now,but it is plated and registered inspected and has road lights so it cannot be illegal ! Just make sure it has full lighting registered and have a mechanic inspect it!
I do not know the caused your divorce but it is very nice that your ex-husband helped you built this tiny house and he did a great job too. God bless you both. Cheers.
These houses should be applauded and rewarded, not made illegal. Let's hope soon a new way of thinking will become mainstream and off grid living and tiny home movement can thrive! It's horrible knowing that authority could say...get out. Move on. 😣
My son is a firefighter. I believe a lot of the tax issues aren’t necessarily greed driven but perhaps more practical. When we live in a city or town our taxes pay for basic utilities, public services (police, fire, rescue) and road maintenance. Schools etc also are part of a community and add to the tax bill. So perhaps having people living in a town and paying some sort of land tax might help.
I think it's quite sad that rents and real estate prices have skyrocketed to the point of making people pretend that living in a shoebox on wheels is acceptable and trendy in supposedly the best country in the world. These are not tiny homes, they are miniature trailers. This one looks like a coffin on wheels.
@@KeithsReviews I think it is sad that someone can legally get kicked out when they are 18, yet, minimum wage is not high enough for someone not college educated to live on their own without relying on roommates. Not everyone got friends they can share a place and stuff. Even if 18 and working two jobs, it will wear a person down because a person can only put their body through so much before stuff happens, even if young.
bodybalancer some people can actually have an amicable divorce. If kids are not involved and no fighting over assets, it can happen. What a beautiful home.
even with children and assets involved people can actually still be civil. "i still >like< him, but i need my own space." is what one of those people once said to me.
The house is adorable, the only little thing missing, for me anyway, is a sweet kitty to come home to at night to meet me at the door. All the very best to you.
Have you had a tech look at your heating system. Humidity can be an indicator of a bad burn with propane. It would be good to have a carbon monoxide detector also. My husband works with propane and was concerned when he heard you mention the humidity. Your house in beautiful. ~ Sherry
Your home is actually built well but it needs to breathe, humidity is caused by the fact your home heats up to quick, not giving it enough time to disperse the moisture. Keep a little air flowing from outside it requires only a little and you should see less moisture. Of like the other comment please watch for black mold, it can make you ill and it can be deadly. You’re doing well keep up with more RU-vid videos on any improvements we’d love to hear from you, thanks, Charlie
CPR - Craft Pray Repeat ... THANK YOU & YOUR HUSBAND SOO VERY MUCH FOR THIS INFORMATION HONEY,,, WHAT A BLESSING TO BE INFORMED ABOUT THESE DANGERS FROM A PROFESSIONAL WITH A CARING HEART FOR EVERYONE,,, GOD BLESS YOU BOTH,, & THANK YOU SOO MUCH😇😇!!!!
Sirius Lee Non vented propane heat will cause condensation on the windows, regardless of what you do. More outside air can reduce it, but I keep the windows closed, save the money, and live with it. A vented heater can solve the problem, if the condensation is just intolerable to you.
Well said i totally agree with you on this one. There are homeless people every where yet we have homes that not have been lived in for years and years and that are empty
Andrzej Sati - Yeah, I totally agree. And you can make good sturdy houses out of plastic water bottles. The government could make eco friendly houses, cut down on our plastic waste and help the homeless. Unfortunately, all they care about is how are they going to fatten their own wallet.
San Jose CA just last month approved a plan to do exactly that, create a tiny house community for their homeless people! They expect to have 80 tiny houses ready by next summer.
I believe you are the smartest, humble, beautiful, craziest 😉, person alive. I am proud of your accomplishments...and I happen to be crazy as well the difference is I have not been brave enough to show it. But working on it😉. Love your house.🌟
The more of these "tiny house" vids I watch, the more it occurs to me that the rest of us only use about this much space in our own houses... The rest is stored STUFF.
I have a house of 1300 sf...I can assure you, we use every part of it. I have nothing 'stored'. My family of four would not be happy living with less space. I can easily get rid of stuff, but we could not do with less space.
@Jaime Alonzo Luckily our house uses space very well. We have a finished basement and 3 bedrooms, and well-made closet space. We also have 1/2 acre of land so the kids have plenty of room to play outside. The only thing I would change is my garage...it's too small to really work as a garage (the house was build in the 40s), so I would love to remodel it as a den. Not sure I'll ever get the chance but for now, our house works pretty well for our little family.
I love to visit stately homes and always find myself most strongly attracted to the gatekeeper's lodge or the gamekeeper's cottage or similar small dwelling!
Why should Seniors and Amish pay for families living with 6 or more kids, using property owners to pay their school bills? Every renter with children should have to contribute to their kids education. They should have it taken from their taxes and wages. If you are on welfare you should be required to work at the school your children attend until you are legitimately working and pay for your kids. Seniors, disabled vets and disabled individuals should be exempt from school taxes (unless they are continuing to create school age children). They should not be forced from their homes to support others.
@@hpstrunkiii8056 Because those policies create a healthy society. If there wasn't free education at the point of service, illiteracy rates would skyrocket, crime would increase, etc, etc. Sorry bud but taxes are an absolutely necessary part of modern society.
You haven't thought that through very well. This lady has a plan to move into a community, communities have infrastructure, hence taxes; she isn't living in a community. People like you piss me off. Almost every person I have seen on RU-vid, doing this, is living on borrowed land, essentially squatting, not paying their way, and bragging the virtues of tiny-home, tax free living, all the while living on land that someone else is taxed on. As I said, this lady is staying where she is temporarily, but a lot of single, younger people, living in tiny homes, living the van life, and being nomadic, extol the beauty of the way they live, sticking it to the man, and genuinely thinking that they're creating a new and better way, all the time, living on the charity of those that let them squat.
I'm loving these videos! what a nice story and I really hope that Christine will have a great life in that tiny house! I ended up going in a similar but yet different direction myself. I live in the third largest city in Sweden (read: "it's a small city") ;). But I opted for a tiny apartment of 21m2 (226 square feet). I saved up and bought it cash and now I can enjoy a minimalistic lifestyle in a beautiful transformable space with all modern comforts one could think of (hot shower, flush toilet, internet, recycling etc.). Everything is included in the rent (internet, tv, phone, insurance, electricity, heating, recycling etc) with a total of 140$/mo. This will increase by 1-2$ every year (to keep up with inflation), but all in all, the rent will never weigh me down financially. I am super happy with finding a space like this which enables me to do so much more with life other than working in order to pay for your living. It's great! Thanks for a truly inspiring youtube channel! I absolutely love these videos. Great source of inspiration.
nene he bought the apartment, so none can throw him out. The 140bucks he talks about is just the fee for the apartmentowners to pay for electricity and such.
It would be great to hear from folks who have been living in tiny homes for 10 plus years just to see how everything’s going. So far everything I’ve seen was filmed within the first year or so.
Kudos to the both of them for choosing to get along! Many times we forget that it is ok to want different things, it doesn’t make one or the other a bad person! Couples who do want different things should never have to choose who has to miserable... it’s perfectly wonderful to part ways & continue to want the best for the other person (please note that I am not getting into other areas such as adultery, abuse, or financial woes… I’m only talking about people who can leave a relationship on friendly terms… sad I even have to make a disclaimer but there you go)💗
@@monicaflor4144 For us introverts..we love our aloneness..do many things and have many interests..ir does not mean we do not enjoy people also..but to be still and enjoy aloneness is a gift..to each his/her own
Did you say TAXATION...small wonder. I can't wait to see the GREED that is going to pour out of government when large scale adoption of Electric cars comes about. Expect mileage charges (TAXES) for use of the roads.
Such a lovely ,happy lady . In India.,my native country ,millions of people live in even smaller ,crammed places but they re happy souls ,Big ,luxurious abodes dont necessarily mean big happinesses.Loved watching every moment of this video.
There are Tiny Houses designs that actually have the sleeping area in the main floor, so no loft is required, though many also have lower sleeping areas and lofts as storage, I do also think that tiny homes are a great way to allow elderly to have their own space without having to stick them into a nursing home!
Sarah Morton I agree with you. I currently live in a three-story house and I’m by myself. But I needed this at this stage in my life. I grew up in a one bedroom apartment with a bunch of people. For me to have all of the space to myself is healing a lot of wounds. But I already feel that in the future I would be very happy to downsize because I have given myself this chance
Love her tiny house. She explained everything very well and I love the idea with the hay, clever idea. It bothers me something fierce that they are technically illegal here in Canada. Makes no sense. You pray for a solution to end homelessness and for those who prefer living alternatively and then you find a solution and the bi-laws and government say it's illegal. There are so many other countries that have been creating these small living spaces for decades. She's very fortunate to have a friend who is so generous to offer his property and care for her safety. Fantastic story. I wish her all the very best. Love, health and happiness.
I agree I HAVE been homeless for a year and there is no help in Pennsylvania but this would solve so many homeless problems but nobody can guide me to how to get a project of tiny homes for homeless started. I can't even get a donated computer to work online or start a online business to have an income...
Raynee Maybe you could try a different state or network with a group of people in your community? I don't know much about the laws in the states but I know there are some who have tiny home communities and are more flexible with building codes. I'm subscribed to a few channels who live in RV's maybe you can connect with one of the via RU-vid or Facebook and they can assist you in the right direction.
Raynee, have you considered housing options in Michigan? See video 'Detroit makes housing affordable with tiny houses' & related videos. Detroit is actively pursuing (tiny) housing alternatives on solid foundations for low income families. It's my belief that houses below a certain minimum square footage are illegal for the sheer reason that they generate far less revenue for governments in the form of property tax, & for big utility companies in the form of heating/cooling bills, etc. This lady, by her own admission, pays only about $70 every 2 months for propane. And when she eventually commits the 'crime' of going off-grid....you can figure out how many corporate pockets she'll stop lining.
@@randilynn1796 Sounds like you need to be in a different state. I live in my rv and will never consider living long-term in the NE or SE US. When you get a chance check out cheaprvliving.com and YT channel by the same name. There are tons of solutions there.
I love your tinyhouse! I built a 22' one 8 yrs ago and last year decided it was too big for me so I sold it and built a 13' one, I love it. I just have a composting bucket myself, had a natureshead in the last one and it was a bit to lift and dump out. I too hope to find a small community of like minded tiny dwellers. I have mine on a recreation lot but its secluded and would like "friends" closer by.
What a sweet thing her ex did and he did such a great job insulating and building this home. I pray she gets to stay in her home til her last breath. She and her husband invested much into it
This was perhaps the most helpful video I've seen yet! Wishing Christine all the best with her tiny house. Hope you swing back around if she upgrades her drainage - she may have some more tips to share, and I would love to hear them!
Exactly! The system is outrageous. Being homeless is illegal, van life is illegal but it’s legal for you to pay $1000 or more for a one bedroom apartment. That’s absolutely insane. There needs to be some kind of rent control enforced in the U.S. There’s no reason that an apartment should cost more than owning a home.
Awesome lady!! 🤗 i just perches my trailer yesterday and felt the same way like her thinking now i really got to build it there is not turning back. And Yes im super scared and nervios but i want to feel as happy as she is one day. 😍
High five from another avid knitter who is *thiiis* close to heading out in my diy van-home. I think Christine and I would get along quite well. Great tiny you have there.
I totally love it !!!!! Forget who thinks that your crazy....I think your smart and I think like you,and I never cared what people says when I like something. You have a beautiful place,God bless you.
Christine you are very pretty, such a pleasant inviting face. You are so humble & honest. Darn it, a tear fell out of my eye when you spoke about your mom. What a loving tribute to name your home after your mom & granny- pretty name. What a super kind friend to have you live there. I wish you all the best.
I believe it’s because it can be moved as it sits on a trailer. If you put it on a foundation, they could tax it. I’m not against having to pay taxes on them, but it shouldn’t cost more than $200 a year. Eventually we will need small living space in order to be able to afford to live.
She touches on the major issue when she talks about having to go around the house and wipe down condensation off of walls and windows. AIR QUALITY. This home is probably only about 120-140 square feet. If it were an empty box it would maybe be 1024 cubic feet of air space. When filled with furniture, appliances fixtures household equipment etc. its probably down to 750-800 cubic feet of air. With windows and doors closed and a furnace running, that is not enough air for even one person. With just one person inside the air quality probably drops to dangerous levels after 8-10 hours with the windows and doors closed. That humidity she wipes off of surfaces is from her breathing. The building codes in most areas dictate a minimum square footage of around 650 square feet to insure safe air quality without having forced ventilation.
High five Christine for your creative solution to a problem that too many people are facing - how to find decent affordable housing. Tiny houses were the norm back in the day. Easy to afford, clean, heat. We're going back to that because no one can afford anything in this country anymore. Greed is the new motivator and the new mindset regarding housing in this country. The USA is becoming a place of greed and making a fast buck off the backs of the disadvantaged with outrageous housing prices. It's comments like those of MOMof2 that displays what's wrong with this country. Stupidity , greed and arrogance is driving this country into the ditch.
You are so right. I have been a History Teacher for years and love touring historical sites. Homes for modest income families for centuries have been tiny, you see it among the historical buildings in Appalachia and over here in Europe.
MimiZ914 yes the government/authorities need to completely rethink the housing situation as homelessness is very high due to cost of housing, low pay jobs and no jobs at all. This kind of living needs to be encouraged
Why dose the "Land Of The Free" have so many rules and restrictions? If the original homesteaders had to build to code, they would have stayed on the coast.
nene w Wow! I read all Laura Ingalls books as a child. I didn’t know that. (Maybe I did & forgot- it was long ago). How frustrating after ALL that work!
in the old days people didnt live as long. Most died before 40. But houses, land and cars were very affordable. We live longer due to science learning what is not good for us and what is. Inflation faster then pay raise contributes a lot to everyone's expense. Bravo to this lady for making it work.
When I saw you were a knitter I HAD to watch to see where you put all your yarn! I have way too much yarn for a tiny, so I’d have to clean it out and give most away. I love that you also are friends with your ex. A wise person told me resentment is like drinking poison and hoping the other person dies! I choose not to do that to myself or our two miracle kids! I love the name of your tiny, and the beautiful sign. The house is beautifully constructed and I can tell how happy you are there. Thanks for sharing it with us!
Living so far away alone and I don’t see any tiny houses nearby.. , is it alright and safe? Tiny houses are my favourite and it is cosy nice.. It’s really budget. Comfortable to me. I wish I had one too.. It’s really simple and nice to watch😍👍
I absolutely love your tiny home! And I think the name is such a sweet gesture. I've been looking at a lot of different styles of tiny houses, and yours is by far my favorite. The outside is what 1st caught my eye, it's perfect! And that red color is just ideal! I like all the thought that was put in to detail. The kitchen is awesome, and I love that color green. The bathroom is such a generous size, which is important for me. I also like the windows, you are right, it's a house and it should have house windows. Thank you so much for sharing this video with us.
@Marco Deo My housing costs (last 3 years): max. 100 USD/month: includes electricity (lights, 80liters hot water tank, security system, fridge, heating (heat pump), heat recovery ventilation, air condition etc.), gas (cooking) and water. 42 square meter passive house. Central Europe.
Humidity can be reduced with salt and/or certain plants. Use succulents that draw moisture from the air and are low to no maintenance. Also, try putting rock salt in the bottom of a bucket with holes drilled in it and placing it in another bucket to catch the moisture the salt draws out. Hope these suggestions help.
The high humidity is mainly related to the structure being too tight. Positive air would would solve that. A wood stove would need an air intake for sure. Really like the truss idea.
There are other options other then an HRV. Opening high in the structure would be my suggestion but its important to have a proper bath fan/window and range vent. I wouldn't recommend a hot roof either. A well insulated vented roof with say Tongue and Groove instead of drywall would also be a good option. Full time living in such a small space will always have its challenges. I would want fresh air just to feel healthy.
Theres lots of variable and more then one option. HRV is just one of many. Countries like Sweden, Norway, and Switzerland use interior membranes that surpass our structures. They use passive systems and have harsh winters. As Americans we are always buying a product like an HRV but its not always necessary.
Dryze Air containers that you can buy at the dollar stores will help with the humidity. The crystals absorb the moisture and when the crystals are used up in about 2 months, you just throw it away.
Patriot Jefferson - I hope nobody has any problems but I still agree with her statement. Maybe if more people decided to live more modestly, simply and within their means like this woman, housing/zoning laws will have to be adjusted to get with the times...it's ridiculous that it's 'illegal' to live like this (quietly, with self sufficiency and within one's means) but smoking pot is legal...I agree that she shouldn't go quietly...that's WAY cool!
