I was JUST thinking something similar! She ran her own race. She didn't panic when Diggs took off. She was efficient around the curve and jumped straight down into lane 1 after cutting in. She drafted beautifully off of Diggs into the 2nd 200m and patiently made her one move. My one word to describe Britton is efficient.
@@christopherhaak9824 One hour after the race in this video, Arkansas Razorbacks' 4×4 (Britton Wilson anchor with fastest split all time 49.20) bettered the WR by 1.5 seconds. But if you mean outdoors, 👍🏽 sure looks that way too
I knew she'd break 50 if she ran in the same heat with Diggs and she did!!!! Been a fan since I saw her run the 4x400 with USA last year. Go Britton!!!

I was surprised the announcer didn't give Wilson the prop she deserves prior to the race. That girl is a TRUE competitor. In the mid-sprints, you've got to dig REAL deep to reach that elite level, and she's proven over and over again, she is the ONE. I'm praying she doesn't burnout come August worlds...
Reporter is smarter than most of them are. Let the runners catch their breath a little before questioning them. Additionally doesn't ask stupid questions!!
I was there for the finals and audience was totally shocked how fast her time was. I don't think anyone expected Britton or anyone to break 50 especially by that much. Incredible!! This was one of several great record breaking races today!!
After her third leg at the World Championships 4x400 final last year, I knew......she is a special one. Dwight said it best, she has the strength, and the speed. That is a lethal combination in the 400 m. And she is only a sophomore!! I'm so excited for her.
There is Abby Steiner also... I got her before Diggs in my relay ranking. Had her before Wilson also before this race happend... It's a team for the WR... (Think USA have at least two teams better than the second best country if all their women are available for a relay.)
@@niklasnilsson4705 Oh man I had forgotten about Abby. She would definitely contribute something in the 48.5 range. We have so many talented 400 runners that it's possible for someone capable of running 49 to not make the cut this summer.
I thought Britton would get first from her 600 and 800 runs and Little being her training partner. But Diggs getting 3rd I thought 2nd. And Britton running a 49.20 anchor split after this. Just wow How amazing!!!
She's been splitting 48s and runs 53 over hurdles, I knew it was coming. I said last year, she needed to run a few 800m. Our 400m hurdlers run the 800m preseason.
This brings me back to the Femke Bol vs. Sydney McLaughlin debate. The indoor 400m is not an event that Americans focus on indoors (with the exception of collegians). They do a lot of "over and under" racing. Britton Wilson ran 49.4 in a trials/finals format.
@@rayb5069 Hopefully, but she hasn't broken 53 yet. She's definitely running a PR, could be by 2 seconds. I was a bit eager last year because I really thought she was going to beat Shamier.
She had a long season with back to back 400/400mh races. For example, she ran 50.05 (400m) an hour later ran 53.7 (400mh), an hour after that ran the fastest split in NCAA history 48.59 .. All of that in just one meet. She also split 49.67 indoors last year (the fastest in NCAA history). So I believe she was a bit taxed by seasons end. She still held up nicely and managed to run the second fastest time by a collegiate athlete ever 53.08 (400mh) .. She was absolutely ready for a 52 second race last year but it just didn’t happen. 52 this year is low balling it as it is pretty much inevitable. She just became the fastest woman in American history and the second fastest woman in world history with this race. She also just ran the fastest indoor 4x4 split in world history 49.20. Running 51 seconds in the 400mh is pretty much absolute.
@@rayb5069 I'm aware, a big fan. I thought based on what she did indoor, she would be right where we are now (last year). I was blown away by that 3rd leg at WC. Amazed she had ALL of that left!
Is Sydney running the 400 flat this year? And is SMU still running the 400? With Britton and Femke in the mix, we might see some low 48's this year in Budapest.
@Iamster70 Femke will be concentrating on the 400 hurdles, Budapest would be near impossible, rounds for both the 400 flat and 400 hurdles plus Femke has an excellent 4x400 team.
This sydney hype is too much now, she's never run sub 50 indoors and never run 48 outdoors, let alone 47.5. Lets see her actually run some 400 flats before making these crazy predictions.
Great races but still behind Femke Bol some days ago and she achieved a new world record. This could be very interesting in future races were both ladies can race each other :-)
