It is amazing that we came so far as a society that people are confused when you tell them that women and men are biologically different. What a time to be alive !

I’m a woman lifter I have been feeling the same it’s refreshing and needed for someone to state the biological deference between men and women when it comes to training right I’m in school at Focus Personal Trainings Institute and it barely in the curriculum

My mother used to be a medical transcriptionist and I remember one case she had to type up of a 78 yr old man who had gone from male to female back to male, and was now suicidal at 78 yrs old. She was so sad she was on the edge of weeping, something I never saw from her with regard to her profession. There are many ex transgender people speaking out against this medical madness, confirming it is a mental disorder that needs treatment as such, not physical mutilation.

I think it was helpful to have this transwoman compete because it gives us objective numbers. When she was a man she was around 270lbs and had a combined total of about 1200lbs. You can go into any descent gym and about 20% of the guys will have those kinds of numbers. Its nothing close to elite. Qualifying totals for nationals for that weight class in mens open is around 1600lbs. You have to be a 400/600/600 guy just qualify for nationals in the 275lb weight class. After going through transition. This transwoman now goes from begin a gym bro to a wold record holder. If she wasn't an elite powerlifter as a man she shouldn't be an elite powerlifter as a woman if there was not an inherent advantage.

I'm from Korea. Many Korean women think men and women exercise differently. So Korean women spend their time doing hip abduction or hip extension or streching etc.. on a mat for almost an hour instead of doing squat and deadlift. And many Korean women trust women have to exercise this way and tend to avoid weighttraining. So it is difficult to see the women doing weighttraining in the gym. I wonder what kind of exercise women in other countries do in the gym. Is it the same or different from Korea?

The problem with too many divisions IS definitely an issue in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, especially for women and in the Masters divisions. It's very common to see divisions with only two or three people, and even more common to see people posting pictures of their "first place medal' that only required them to win a single match.

Trans woman here who is a novice but firm believer in strength programming: Rip, I acknowledge your expertise when it comes to male and female biological strength needs. I started hormones (estrogen and T blockers) at 22, and now at 27, still fall within the "male" camp for the 1 rep max effects that you explained in this video. That being said, you mentioned a few times that you believe these differences in explosiveness come from inutero exposure to hormones. My hypothesis is that puberty has more to do with this difference than what happens to you as a baby. Have you trained any trans athletes who have been on blockers (lupron) at the onset of puberty? Jazz Jennings and Kim Petras are both really good examples of this since they had almost no testosterone exposure at all. Do you think that they would still favor male explosiveness/fatigue/etc.?
@dragoninwinter
@dragoninwinter 3 года назад
Puberty does have a significant effect. Small children can become stronger due to the neuromuscular effect of strength training, but their muscles won't get much bigger because they don't have the hormonal environment.

Thanks, Rip. This is looking very good. If you don't mind a question from a 3%-er, could you please talk a bit about the progression of the linear progression, especially when sets get heavier? The blue book talks about it in the Programming section, but still there are lots of blanks left (haven't got the Practical Programming book yet). For example, about the first time you fail to finish the last set with the increased weight, and how to go about it, and also how to tell that the linear progression is coming to an end (in the book you mention not being able to increase the weight for several weeks, if I remember correctly). Would be great to hear you talking about this stuff a bit.

The most fair solution I can think of is simply having separate classes for trans athletes. Yes this would mean there would be a smaller talent pool and less opportunity to compete locally but it would mean they have a higher chance to compete at nationals. It's not a perfect solution (and I don't think a perfect solution exists), I'm sure someone who transitioned at 10 would have a disadvantage over someone who transitioned in their 30s but it's a lot fairer than having cis and trans women competing together.

Exactly, let them build up their division just like women had to do. They aren't entitled to stand on the backs of female athletes who came before.

Competitive jiu jitsu does require a lot of explosiveness, so I can understand setting the age requirement for masters pretty low, although even I have to say that 30 is too low. And while we are on the subject, no, if you win masters, you are not considered a world champion.

Quick look at track and field records . The records for men and woman performance are very different. If there were no difference then woman making up at least 51 percent of the population would hold at least some of the records THEY do not. They meaning woman are spectacular athletes but they are on different levels then men at track and field. The records prove it.
