Exscuse me when they take a purse or wallet that has you life in it bank cards, drivers licence,house keys etc. You are not walking away without it so you are detained like it or not.
Please followup on story. We want to know exactly how Walgreens handles this. I can easily go to CVS whose building stores less 1 mile away from every Walgreens in our town.
If the police have a reasonable suspicion with articulate facts, they can do a search without a search warrant when the legal criteria exists. In this case, it appears the police did not meet the required criteria.
One of these times these Walgreens department stores are going to keep up this race discrimination against blacks, and every single African American in this country is going to start boycotting these places.
The reason the cops were searching their entire bag and opening lip gloss is because they were desperate to find something to arrest them for... that way they can justify their harassment.

This happened to me at a Walgreens department store in Nashville, Tennessee 15 years ago.This store in the downtown area started accusing me of stealing food, then kicked me out.I was so upset over this false accusation,that I will never go into that store again.

Target employees racially profiled (we're brown) my mum and I in the Target in Spokane Valley, WA many years ago. I don't shop at any Target because of that. We were shopping for my parents' new home, spent well over a few hundred dollars; everywhere we went we had employees near us and a security guard, they followed us around until we paid at the checkout. My mum is very naive and thinks the best of everyone, so she didn't even notice and when I told her, she told me to ignore it. It was super weird for me because nothing like that had ever happened to us before or since, even in nice stores like Macy's and Nordstrom; so for it to happen in a store like Target was ridiculous.
That’s a $2,000 Louis Vuitton bag. They are business owners who can afford designer bags but that does not stop them from being treated like common thieves.
Am about tired of all this racial behavior and killings coming out of Walgreen's, It's time for African Americans to start shop at places where they're welcome. When have so much black millionaire's why can't they start buying these empty buildings and do something good.
Don’t give them permission to search. Don’t give up your rights. Make them arrest you and then sue them in court. People who accuse people without evidence need to face consequences.
I've worked loss prevention! They need to see the person select an item, intentionally conceal the items, and walk out of the store. Even after all that it's not worth confronting a shoplifter. Let them shoplift it's not worth it.

The fact of the matter is that African American women purchase & buy the most beauty products out of all females in places like wal greens wal mart target cvs etc etc etc & not to mention nail salons beauty salons the best customers are African American females & yet they get racially profiled.

Here's the issue - store owners in almost every state receive special treatment, by law, about how their complaints and allegations are handled by police over shoplifting. So the local law enforcement MAY have simply been ruling out the arrest by simply requesting the ladies let them perform the search incident to arrest that the complaint would justify without going the the arrest, in case they were innocent. Yes that justification has all kinds do of BAD written all over it, but that's giving them the "benefit" of the doubt. Or they may have been looking for any excuse they could find in the purse, including hoping to find drugs or any other justification they could turn up. Of course if they had been doing a search to avoid an unnecessary arrest, maybe, just maybe they could have explained how they are required to take a shopkeeper's complaint as reasonable suspicion, and after that and explaining how this would be much easier to do first, searched and then thanked them for dispelling the manager's mistaken suspicion. And then people would believe police don't racially profile individuals...
In Vietnam new stores are opening all the time and I like to check them out before making a purchase. But as on entering a lot of times a basket is presented to me. I decline as I don't want to carry something I may not use. If the basket pile is not manned an assistant will run up with one. I always great them with a smile as I know the have been instructed to do this. Then I just pick any item from a shelf put it in the basket their holding and browse on. If I don't see anything to purchase I then head for check out. Thank the assistant and walk out. If I do won't to shop then I allow the assistant to carry my shopping and on payment at the check out I thank them and offer a small tip. The look I get is priceless.

I don't know if it works in America. Regardless of being suspected of a crime in a convienant store (probably spelt that wrong) where I'm from, here in new zealand. You are entitled to request or demand a search warrant to search your bag, handbag even your backpack of any kind👍
You don’t have a lawsuit... obviously if someone reported them, and the manager called police, what do you think is going to happen. Plus, the police asked them if it was ok to go through their purse and she said “yes.” She would have had a lawsuit had she said “no” and they did it anyway, and also if they had detained her. But, once again someone chooses not exercise their rights to unreasonable search and seizure.
Either someone witnessed them steal something or they did not. Best thing is to tell them to either arrest you or let you leave. Then you have a good case for false arrest. What did the store tell the cops? I THINK they stole something?

I believe it. I saw a Walgreens employee, Maria, beat a Black customer on his back and shoulder in an argument July 26, 2021 in the Berkeley CA store. It was not self-defense. So far she has not been arrested.
What does he mean when he says "but police say, they had permission". How did the cops get permission? "They didn't conduct the search in private because the women were not being arrested or taken into custody". Then why were 3 cops searching their purses at all? This wouldn't qualify as a terry stop, so if they were being detained then their only excuse is that it was an actual arrest, meaning they needed probable cause. They were very much being arrested. They just chose to conduct the search on premise. They were forced back inside, the bag was taken from them and publicly searched. The police weren't required to check the video footage first to determine if they actually thought a crime had been committed. Police cannot thoroughly search through a person's belongings during a routine terry stop, only a pat down. So, if they were doing that, then the women were being arrested. The police didn't have probable cause, since they didn't see the footage for themselves or first conduct an investigation to determine if they had probable cause. They didn't even know what they were looking for.
My cvs n walgreens doesn't allow backpacks or large bags like that and they keep everything locked up that's expensive and easily resold . It's South Florida we have so much crime down here it's pathetic. Unfortunately those girls were stopped because of it and yes the skin color n the huge purse was why .
