In this lecture, Asma Hanif discusses the problems confronting poor Muslim women who are rendered homeless and her efforts to assist them through the Muslimaat al-Nisaa woman's shelter. She also provides insight into the actions we as a community must take if our efforts in this regard, as a community, are to begin to approach the magnitude of the need.

This sister opened my eyes to an entire different realm that I was sadly not aware of. May Allah have mercy on Sister Asma and bless her for what she is doing for the sisters of our deen. It is pivotal to look back at how the Prophet(saw) dealt with the poor. He did not treat them less of a human. He did not deprive them of their intrinsic dignity. He did not give except with sincere mercy and compassion. SubhanAllah, this is the masakeen, the first to enter Paradise. Lets not forget our duas!

ASA sister Asma, Weve met on countless occasion. Iive been a month away from homelessness for most of my life . i will donate monthly to our cause. thank you and i will pass this info along.

What sister Asmaa states is very true. It's tough enough for Muslim men to be in a homeless shelter under such scrutiny. IMAGINE the SISTERS. This is WHY we need to have our OWN organizations to help assist brothers & sisters in such a predicament. Organizations that help assist us ISLAMICALLY. If the Mushriq & Kuffr can do these things, why can't we? To those who are "well-off", instead of being non-charitable, why not start giving saddaqa? It's better to GIVE than to receive.

ouch. that stung. i help feed homeless women in a shelter every other month, and i've given money to help sisters in need via a muslim's women's social service agency we have here, but GOD KNOWS. it's not enough. still too many sisters slip through the cracks, live in shelters or outside---nowadays, many masjids refuse to help them because they fear being swindled. How many Blessings will we continue to deny? The blessings found in the opportunity to DO what we claim we believe...

Sallaamu Alaykum this video really made me feel what this sister was saying, this is so true! I was homeless for some time, and what this Muslim sister said about what kind of food people donate, WOW! ain't that the truth! and what she said about the can food, yeah, this does happen. we have homeless sister here in the USA so why are we sending money overseas. Please take care of your own here!

Please forgive me for being so naive, but I never know that they had so many Muslim sisters in such a drastic position. This video has touched my heart so deeply. When I get some more money, I HAVE to donate what I can. We as Muslims are so divided until it's sad. And sad to say, some these days you can't trust, just because they carry a Muslim name don't mean nothing. But I pray that these sisters(in particular) get the help they need because Allah said in 94:5, with every hardship comes ease.

Those who have been abused at Asma's shelter, you should STAND UP and don't be afraid to speak of mistreatments that you'd endured at her place.

Meaning that, if I was poor, you wanted to give me food. You have an option of giving me a can of beans or a full hearty meal. Which would you give me? Most will give the can of beans because it's cheap. This is the kind of charitable attitudes she's addressing. Not just the charity, only the lack of full compassion. But it is hard because everyone has their own problems. You only need to compare that to the poor & you'll find your own problems are nothing in comparison. Give more, keep less.

And we don't mean to be harsh, however why would the Muslim community expect or ask the government to support homeless Muslim women and children when ALLAH and HIS Messenger established zakat for that purpose? Caring for the poor is fard kifiyah. We are not beggers but your Muslim Sisters in Islam. Finally somebody gave us a voice to be heard. Jazakallahu khairun Imam Zaid

This is just another reason why polygamy works in Islam. Our sisters don't need to be living in a homeless shelter with her children. Brothers need to step up & start providing protection for ALL SISTERS in this predicament. I know I'll be doing so ASAP...INSHA'ALLAH.

They're meant to, but look at how many homeless there are still. Government system doesn't always work. The Zakat system is meant to help and push. Nobody fears a man made charity but people can fear the God (if they're believers) who set up the charity for us to follow. But do people follow and do people fear God? That's what's behind motivation for those who lack compassion. It's also the quality of the charity this sister is talking about as well.

Yeah, you can drone on about Zakat and what it means. But look, Zakat can get abused by charities. Zakat money for bare necessities can get diversed and be used to purchase weapons for political purposes or be used to ornate jewelled Mosques with real gold for domes, lapis lazuli and other costly minerals for decorating surfaces. Which is better for you to enter, a plain Mosque or a *bling* *bling* glittering jewelled Mosque? Too many jewelled Mosques mean fewer charities for the starving poors.

You completely missed the point. Anything can get abused so what you said absolutely meant nothing. The heart of the whole things is, are you "God fearing". Think about that before speaking about this and that getting abused.

Firstly, I would like to donate what I can, if you will accept from an Ex Muslim. Secondly, Allah set zakath to take care of the poor. What a pitty, it's been 1400 years now and Allah's system has still not worked for this sister. Keep thinking........
