With all the controversies surrounding Marion jones, she still my favourite female sprinter that got me interested in athletics, her and Maurice Greene. Loved Ottey, Debbie, Chandra and a few others too. ❤❤
No she wouldn't have won unfortunately but not for the obvious reasons one would think. If what you say is true she would of chosen to not take and inject the clear steroids into her stomach in the first place. The real issue here is that unfortunately for Marion she got caught because she lied to a grand jury and her own husband testified against her regarding the steroid allegations surrounding balco labs. The definitive eason why Marion Jones was not going to win the race without drugs is because everyone else she's racing against is cheating too they just didn't get caught up in a scandal like she did and that's a fact!!!!!👌
What a dirty final. I was in the stadium for this. After Jones was stripped, they didn't even elevate Thanou after her own doping issues. Even Ottey had her own issues the previous year (later dropped) but managed to bully her way onto the Jamaican team after only finishing 4th at the Olympic trials. What a mess.
The same bro, just I was 13, those Olympics in Sydney give us (me & my friends) some good ideas of outdoor's activities; like long jump, sprint, an improvised shot put, 400 meter ...etc
Marion Jones also won a NCAA Basketball Championship while playing at North CarolinA. At 5'11" one would think her size and athleticism would be enough to dominate the sprints!
Marion Jones deserves only scorn. She cheated intentionally for years while vigorously denying it and shaming others for using PEDs. A gigantic hypocrite and cheater.
@@evertonspartan1370 Jones did not come forward. She lied to the FBI, hence her 6-month conviction. She only confessed when the prosecutors had all the evidence they needed. In other words, she obstructed justice.
She was that girl…I absolutely loved her and still do till this day. She never needed those drugs but I wasn’t in her shoes so I can’t speak for her but she was legitimately a force
@@latoucheF7 Yes, it's a valid point. How much did the drugs allow her to develop to that level. I think she still would have been a successful elite sprinter without them, but would she have taken gold?
@@latoucheF7 Well history is easy to get ahold of. The same way most feel that drugs helped her. Who's to say it truly did? We know it hurt her in the ending. She's always been fast, the talk, and records were shattered well before this, so the proof is there that she never needed the drugs

@@mm2lover545 the second was also on drugs and even though she wasn’t disqualified the IOC refused to award to gold to her after taking it from Marion.
2 Jamaican women, and 3 from the extremely small island of the Bahamas! Caribbean hegemony in athletics! Such an unlikely phenomenon! Merle w Ottey performing world level, an ageless wonder!
@@pascalbrutal8064 Myth. Most of them cannot even afford as such. It is quite clearly favorable genetics and training. The USA, Russia are filled with doping, avoiding tests and getting away with it. If they’re so bad why are they’re more Americans getting wherabouts failures than Caribbean? They’re obviously simply superior athletes
Merlene Ottey was so close to the third place, at age 40!!! Katerina Thanou (the Greek) was amazing. It's not common to see a White person to take the second place, at 100 meters.
@@vladimirgarduno1492 I suggest you see the video Marion Jones Z score. There is clearly a pack of 5 runners with a mean of 11.20 seconds and a standard deviation of about 20 milliseconds. The last runner can be ignored. (People tend to give up when they realise they will be last.) Given the race had 8 individuals the probability of Thanou's speed was greater than 40%. In other words the statistical evidence indicates she was clean. Marion Jones in relation to the pack was 450 milliseconds faster than the mean or 22 standards deviations different. To give an idea of what that means 1 SD about 63% 2 SD about 95% 3 SD about 13 in 10,000 4 SD about 1 in 10,000 .... So 22 SD is beyond rediculous.
Merlene Ottey was robbed all the time because of other athletes doping. Even if she receives the medal way after its like no purpose served. Because that moment already pass.
U gotta realise most of these elite runners injected illegal substances during their 10+years career, only difference if they got enough sponsors to cover it up
@@pingisola Yes. At the very least there has never been proof she did drugs. Even if she did though, almost all the other girls did drugs as well ever since and still could not come near her times so she's obviously better than everyone else anyway.
@@aaronbarlow4376 thats correct..The 1980 is everyone was on drugs..and also today..every top athlets is on drugs or have been are geting angry....Bolt said he have never been cought ...but Thats what marion jones said also..powel Simpson Blake and other Jamaica athlets has been cought...wery strange hu?
@@aaronbarlow4376 "Even if she did though, almost all the other girls did drugs as well ever since and still could not come near her times so she's obviously better than everyone else anyway." That is twisted logic. The majority of athletes don't cheat. If they all did, FloJo might not have even made the final!
I've always said the same. I saw a video of one of her high school races in which she beat all other competitors by a ridiculous margin. Even in this race it was clear she would still have won without the juice. And you are completely right about her body. She has no hips whatsoever.
@@Tomasquo if jones could have won without taking drugs why for the love of jesus did she take drugs ie Einstein thats a stupid comment ie nobody puts petrol into a car if they don't need to
@@TiagoGomez-hb9te because Marion admitted it and Thanou was not given the golden medal. Why?? Oh yes maybe after Tzekos and balco case they understood something
Yeah 23 years on, you can tell Marion was pumped up with performance drugs. I never feel sorry for cheats, but she never needed drugs to win. Such a pretty girl back in the day. Was it worth it not being an Olympic Champion and name tainted with drugs forever and beyond your lifetime? No.
No one... The second place finisher had also been long-suspected of doping as well. The IOC delegated 🥈and🥉 to Tanya Lawrence and Merlene Ottey respectively. The fall-out from Jones' "admissions" were far-reaching, in my opinion if you read b/t the lines Jones decided to admit to doping as far back as the 2000 Sydney Olympics but had also been implicated in doping since her high school basketball days, however, the IAAF could not strike her personal bests of 10.65s and 21.62s for the 100m and 200m, ensuring her name would be kept on the record amongst the best performances in history. look-up the case, it's a very interesting and telling research and investigation by the International Olympic Committee.
@@tabaresharris1880 Marion Jones never went all out because she was trying to hide. If she went for it she’d run 10.4s Coach John Smith said she’d have the 100 & 200 records if she wanted them.
