Women's 1500m World Record  

I love how clean athletics was in th 90's. I don't know how the IAAF didn't find it odd that 5 of the top 10 womens 1500m were ran on the same day all by chinese runners (October 97), and 7/10 of the best times are chinese, yet china won less than 10 track medals at olympics from 1988-2004

It is well known that these Chinese women were juiced up. After discovering irregularities in their blood, Chinese officials decided to send none of them to Sydney in 2000. Furthermore, none of these women had any longevity. Nobody heard of them before or after these records. That is not the case for most great middle distance / distance runners. It is certainly a very different story for Bolt.

1997 was just as bad as well at their National Games in October that - 10.79 100m, 22.01 200m, 50.01 400m, 3:50.98 1500m, 14:28.09 5000m, 30:38.09 10000m. FYI 1997 1500m - 12 women broke 4mins in 2 heats, 9 did so in the final including a 3:54.52 by a 17yr old. Qu finished eighth and 1993 world champion Dong ninth. Kelly Holmes with 3:58.07 went from 1st to 12th in the world rankings after this event. I wonder why some of these "great athletes" weren't at the World Champs two months before...?

Actually the IAAF website have listed Ling Zhang's DoB as 13/04/1981 so in 1997 she was 16 and ran 3:54.52.

Hahaha classic race. With times like that, they should have dominated middle distance running for a decade. But strangely, most of them disappeared and never achieved anything at championship level :D

This reminds me of the early 80's when German women dominated several of the events in track. Marita Koch who was on so much juice she looked like a man. Her record of 47.60 in the 400 metres, from 1985, still stands. And is considered to be one of the dirtiest records in track history.

@etuoyo Jamaican athletes have just as slack drug testing as China did back then. They refuse to be tested, outside of the athletics season. 8 months of the year, they do no testing whatsoever Until Bolt starts doing random testing 12 months a year, I'll never be convinced

actually i dont think we've seen the last of the chinese.i wouldnt be suprised if they rise again,someday,but itll be tougher for them,next time around.they will have to come up against tougher than tough kenyan and ethiopian women,who are getting better,and more numerous,every year.the chinese will be hard pressed to beat them.

This is the reason I am starting to become fed up with sports, I don't believe any athlete is clean

People are kept saying that Chinese runners were doping in their time. At that time, why the Olympic doping control team did not test them doping or not ? I am sure they would have done. Did they really test those Chinese runners ?

i think almost all male and female records in track and field are from drug cheats,not just the women,and not just the chinese.These young women were still very talented athletes,and some of them would have been sub 4 minute 1500 metre runners,without drugs.Its a pity that china,and ma's family army were so blatant at the time,and its sad that he ran his girls into the ground.
