I was in the stadium. By the 350m mark you could tell firstly that the race was over and secondly that the world record was about to be beaten. For a moment I thought she might break 50 seconds. A truly incredible experience 🇫🇷👏👌
I feel like the crowd didnt fully realize that they were witnessing an historic moment. Because they were supporting Louise and were a bit disappointed.
@@lusisa96 my hands were in the air waiting for the WR but I was surrounded by the orange army all watching Femke. The crowd did seem to be fairly knowledgeable in fairness and the US won big on the night, apart from the under par Lyles. SML's performance was arguably right up there with Bolt's 9.58 or Jonathan Edward's 18.29. Or Powell's 8.95 for that matter, and it was great to hear from Carl Lewis himself in the build up 😁👌
@@davess61 yes I also guess there were a lot of Dutch fans but I was not among them. I was more talking about the french crowd, as we had Maraval in the final and even though she was not a real contender for the medal we were hoping for a miracle. She finished 8th so besides me people were a bit disappointed and didnt notice the WR at first.
indeed , fantastic Second place finish for her !!! Usa is having a fabulous Night with 1/2 punch in the 110 Hurdles , 400 H Hurdles , women's Long Jump and 200 Meters ! 8 Medals !
As a Femke fan: this was an absolutely amazing performance from Sydney. 50.37 is insane. Its a shame Femke couldnt put her race together and we didnt get the final we hoped for. But even if she did, i have a hard time believing she couldve really challenged Sydney. But for her to only run a 52 and finish 3rd. Its almost as much of an upset as Noah Lyles taking the bronze in "his" 200.
Only Noah has covid. I got it in march 10 days into a month long vacation and was really only sick for 2-4 hours in the morning 3 days in a row. What I did get was super tired and low energy. Didn't do much the rest of the trip and a month later still weak on the bike. I can imagine what it would do to a world class athlete.
Bol just couldn't live with the pace and cracked under the pressure. Started to stutter step and completely messed up her race. Sydney ran the perfect race. ZERO mistakes and 100% focus. Sydney is untouchable now.
Femke thought that was the only way she could win was to get out hard and try to maintain it. Normally she would come of the gas a little down the back straight, but this time she kept going and paid for it in the last 100m. I link both Sydney and Femke. The sport could do with more athletes like them.
Yeah I'd love to hear her thoughts on her performance here. Does she consider it a strategic error to not do "safe" 51.xx, or was there some outside factors not allowing her to be at her absolute best on the most important race. Ofc bronze is nothing to scoff at - that time would've still won every Olympics pre-21!
I find it weird a top athlete would do that. It's not like she didn't know beforehand that Sydney is the faster runner of the two from the start. She could have worked on her conditioning and starting speed for ages to better handle the lactate near the end at higher speeds from the start, instead she raced like the old way and only now decided to run at Sydney's pace at the beginning. Sounds like a rookie mistake then.
It seemed that way didn't it? Bol believed if Sydney got out too far she couldn't win but in the end she only scraped in for 3rd. A second later and she's 4th.
Truth, and this is the race model Dalilah Muhammad came up with that Sydney, Anna, etc., are using that has gotten them to running these insane times.same with Warholm. Femke will never have a chance to beat Dalilah until she has the endurance to run that race pattern…the whole key to achieving times in this range rare either this, or something with insane 100M time who can turn on the jets and catch everyone in the end, which is still excruciating and requires tons of endurance. Interestingly, that was my strategy in the 400MH…I got out pretty slow, paced myself and stuck with my steps, folks would pass me and think they were clear after being way ahead of me, and I could catch them at about 90M and fly pass to win. It is possible to achieve this with that, but I don’t really recommend it…she’s gotta be able to run fast on the back stretch or she will never catch Sydney…Sydney is too fast and strong. Now the real threat here is gonna also become Anna Cockrell…she trains with Dalilah and has learned all the tricks. Once she increase her foot speed she’s gonna be a huge problem!
Shouldn't she attempt to break the 400m record at that point? I know she has amazing hurdling technique so the gains for the 400m might not be huge but still...
@@ladydi3618 That had nothing to do with her determination, and all with Bol's F'ing up. But congrats to Cockrell who was a least quick enough to take profit.
Mclaughlin is clearly the best at this event with another dominant world record. Bol has won her own gold medal in this Olympics so she can hold her head high even if this event didn't go as well as she hoped.
The Dutch media interviews with Bol were heartbreaking. Bol was so disappointed in herself. She felt great but delivered in her own words the worst race of her life. Congrats to Sydney and Anna, they delivered and especially Mclaughlin-Leverone showed he absolute worldclass improving the WR again. I hope Bol will be back better for the next race and gives us the close race we hoped to see.
@@HerveMaasbe that as it may even on her good day against Sydney she would have still come short. It's not a disgrace to be beaten by the best. I like watching Femke run and watching her run yesterday even in Tokyo and Worlds she has no answer to Sydney.
I feel for Bol. She did not run her own race. She let Sydney get in her head. But she's so young and so accomplished, her time will come to get that silver and/or gold medal one day.
I'm glad she proved the haters wrong only saying she breaks the world record in Eugene never outside of the US so what's going to be the next excuse all hail the queen Sydney McLaughlin levrone
There was a ton of pressure in the moment. However, I think when Sydney strolled on by Femke it just crushed her a bit mentally as I noticed she chopped her steps going into the final two hurdles. Sometimes when your dreams are being crushed in real time it's hard to hold it together and Anna was there and ready to capitalize on the moment.
Wow! I was wrong about the time, but so right about her beating Femke. Sydney is amazing, perhaps the most dominant of all athletes in a running event in these Olympics. And Cockrell? She told us she was going to do something special, and she did. Bright future for her! I hope Femke's ok; maybe she wasn't feeling well today.
I have been arguing with Femke Bol fans for way to long now,i hope this will make them realize that Sydney is just on another level and when Sydney doesnt race,Femke must be grateful to Sydney for that 1st place she gona get.
Sydney McLaughlin is a once in a lifetime talent, she is beyond description. What you saw was Femke Bol having her soul taken. Sydney completely broke her spirit. Racing can be psychological and to be as great as Bol, but absolutely defenceless against such a freak athlete, when she got around the bend and saw Sydney pull away from her it looked like all her belief, faith & energy left her.
I think Femke aimed for the queen, but it's really difficult running outside of her (not that it would have mattered). She'll be back, she tried but SML is on another level
@@Brewnz88 I honestly just think Femke was in the form of her life, everything she trains for is to beat Sydney and the last 150m she knew it still wasn’t enough, her spirit broke and her legs became heavy.
Anna Cockrell knew she had to show up and show out, and she did exactly that. Not only did she have to prepare for Sydney once again, but also for Femke Bol. I must say, Anna put daylight between herself and Femke to secure 2nd place. Sydney broke her own world record again, proving that she runs with God Almighty. The American 1st and 2nd place finish is simply the best!
Moc pěkně to VŠE píšete.
Congratulations for Cockrell, but she got it handed on a platter by Bol who botched her race. In any normal race Bol is about a second faster than Cockrell.
Femke was doing other races. In the press conference she said it wasn't a factor, but sometimes it just catches up to you and you lose steam and concentration. Sydney concentrated on this race. she definitely had more fresh legs
@@BlueHopi144 sydney ran the second fastest 400 flat of the season as her first race this year. I think she could have won it all if she ran the way she did today. Maybe even goinhg below 48.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone delivers again, what a performance ! Undoubtly the GOAT of this event ! It's crazy to break 6 times the world record and to improve 1.79 second since 52.16 of Dalilah Muhammad in 2019. Anna Cockrell is now 4th all time ! Only 4 women have break 52 seconds ! Jasmine Jones PB and she is now 5th all time ! Rushell Clayton didn't PB but was very near in this final, and she is still 10th all time ! Sad for Femke Bol, I would love to see her PB but her final was not as excepted. Very disappointed for her and heartbreaking to see her cry of sadness after her final. I hope she's doing well in the other events at this Olympics, and she's come back in the future seasons.
I feel like Femke Bol, as strong of a runner as she is, pushed herself past her limits in an effort to stay with Sydney. This was costly to her in the end because she was gassed out.
What an amazing race from Sydney, hats off! I would have really liked it if Bol also ran her best race instead of one of her worst, but with this 50.37 there is no way Femke at her best would have been close to her ...
If Naser is in 100% form, a 100% Miller- Uibo, and Paulino with Mclaughlin, then the womens 400 could be the most looked forward to event come the next World Championships
In respect to Femke-not so many years ago a 52 was WORLD RECORD TERRITORY.Femke ran her legs out making up 10 meters-yes 10 meters-in the mixed relay winning a GOLD MEDAL-it was her best chance at GOLD MEDAL-so in hindsight-it was smart since she was NOT GOING TO BEAT A 50.37! Sydney is soooooo good it is almost unfair.A few months back Sydney beat Gabby T in. a 200m-beat the current OLYMPIC CHAMPION in her event!
Quit making excuses for her----you sound stupid-----the whole world saw that she was not in Sydney's league---------I anticipated this weak argument of she run the 4x400 mixed relay as though that would have helped her if she did not run in that race.
Even though I liked Bol I predicted Sydney to win. Bol is not at the same level. Bol has been very dominant without Syndney last year. However as soon as Sydney wins all the talk is drugs 😂. Sydney is the queen whether you like it or not.
Mostly because Sydney hadnt raced outside Eugene for a long time now, and it IS a known strat to do these things to avoid doping tests, and her coach isnt exactly one with a clean history. Add the fact she is constantly dropping so much time off a WR even when not competing much, it is natural peopel get suspicious. Still doesnt have to mean shes actually doping ofc.
Stop making excuses Sydney never failed a test. Bol just got smoked. When Bol was consistently getting faster I didn’t hear anything about drugs. She is not in her league.
All the TALKERS who said Femke Bol would beat Sidney need to shut up … Femke was hysterically crying because all you talkers had her believing she could beat Sidney AND break the World Record … NEVER EXPECT ❤
Femke Bol's best time of 50.95 was set almost 1,000 meters above sea level. This flatters and she would have a difficult time, all things held constant, to replicate that time in Paris, which is only about 100 meters above sea level. McLaughlin-Levrone can break the 50 sec barrier with a bit of high altitude training at a higher level track of about 1,000 meters. For context, see Omanyala's beautiful times set at high altitude Nairobi which he could not approach in Paris
This is what I said. I do not want to hear an excuse that Sydney has never beat her any where else and that she can only break a WR in Oregon. She just proved all of that wrong. She is the Queen GOAT of Hurdles. Period! But props to Femke she had too much mileage on her legs from this Olympics, especially during that 4 x 4 mixed relay.
Glad to see someone acknowledge that; Bol isn't going to beat her, but she's run much better than that and a closer contest was expected. She looked wore out.
Excellent point but Femke’s focus should have been settled on 1 thing and 1 thing only, beating Sydney no matter what Sydney ran…. Tying her to other events was stupid. Femke should be ashamed. This is the Olympics, 10 events you STILL show up and destroy Sydney. Femme is weak where it counts the most, in the heart.
Femke pushed harder than usual to be near Sydney at 200, but there was a price for that strategy. Cockrell ran the race of a lifetime. I wonder whether Femke's prep the previous couple months was optimal for a peak at the Olympics. In hindsight, placing Femke on the 4x400 mixed relay final was probably a good move. It was a fantastic finish by Bol, a gold medal performance, and if she had rested up and not participated, it probably wouldn't have made a difference against Sydney in the 400 H final.
you could see that Femke attempted to run a very difference race today and it did not work out. I will be fascinated to hear her comments in the presser afterwards
Look at the distance between Sydney and the rest of the field!! Femke is not in the ballpark of Sydney in this event who are we kidding? It's time Sydney go to the 400m flat and dominate that event. I can even see her doing the 200m and like Michael Johnson master the 200m and 400m events. Anna was amazing and I am so proud of her!!! Femke has company in these hurdles and it ain't just Sydney!
Problems come when you try to run someone elses race instead of your own. There was no way she was going to win when she went out as hard as she did. I think the pressure got to Femke.
@@cryo9216 more like she locked up after going out faster than normal. When that lactic builds up, there is not much you can do but hang on. (I'm all team-Syd, but what these ladies are doing is no joke. I don't doubt FB's determination or desire, but when you do things your body isn't used to, it can come at a cost. But she HAD to do something different if she wanted a shot at the gold). Respect to Femke....fan battles don't diminish her as an athlete. (and, yes, I was talking siht after the race, but not ragging on Femke...more aiming at Syd's detractors)
totally agree. Femke is a closer, not a Warholm-type runner. there is no way that rate of slowing down was from anything other than complete lactic acid overload. I have raced and had that happen.( it's like someone pouring quick drying cement on you like Whiley Coyote, your muscles completely lock up, ha ha). It's a miracle to even finish. When she runs her own race, her finish is out of this world.
@@yurikriegel2553 That only happens in people who are in mediocre shape. Top athletes in superior shape "die" at a much slower rate. I would know - I competed at the world class level for years.
I think what broke Femke's race was that she's not used to run behind someone anymore. Normally over the last 2 years, she always ran far ahead and could decide what pace to go. This time, she tried to keep up with Sydney - well, of course she did, it's an Olympic final and she's the only woman in the world with the slightest chance of beating her. She did a great job at keeping up over the first 200, but then between hurdles 5 and 7, you can clearly see her stength failing. Anna on the other hand knew better, she didn't even try to compete with Sydney, she just ran her own race, and a magnificent one at that. I'm a big fan of Femke, and I really hope she can keep imporving and challenge Sydney one day, but today she wanted too much. Huge congratulations to the US ladies, well deserved for both of them!
"I think what broke Femke's race was that she's not used to run behind someone anymore" Femke is known for her comebacks in the last 100m. SML had the ideal position in lane 5: seeing FB in lane 6 right in front of her, she could run (next) to her and then move on. But Femke could never reach SML's 50.3s today, even if she had ran her best race. Now she ran her worst race, unfortunately, and lost silver because of that.
Stop making excuses for femek 1.the mixed relays was a week ago+ 2.she tried to run with syd the first 200m in which she doesn’t do 3. She hasn’t ever beaten syd head to head 4. Sydney is the GOAT Reminder syd beat gabby and brown in the 200m this season in which they both placed🥇and🥉
Yup! if Bol had not tried to compete with Sydney in a foot race in the first 200m, she would have been second----but she wanted to show that she could hang with Sydney and lost the race before it ended.
This year, Bobby let Sydney race when it matters, and today, it did. Simply the Best Ever. I saw her at Morehouse in May when she ran the world's fastest time.
Sydney Mclaughlin-Levrone is a once in a generation athlete, and to be so dominant in terms of consistency, winning championships and breaking records is putting her in a league of her own.
Btw - I can't be the only person who noticed how INSANE Anna Cockrell's body/physique is right? Like HOLY fuck she is beautifully ripped. She's a very beautiful woman as well but man her body is next level wow
@@ltyler01 Or maybe its because Bol actually been competing last few years, while Sydney was away being pregnant, then injured. In hindsight, they should have known better ocnsidering she did ran the WR a few months ago, that she would be in top shape for the olympics. So stop playing the race card ( and god i hate having to say that, makes me sound like a MAGA)
@@TerranigmaQuintet crap. Folks know who Sydney McLaughlin is so don’t act like they don’t. McLaughlin had set five world records. Never lost a race in the event since 2019. Was undefeated against Femke Bol. And it was as if it was Bol who had all the records. Go find someone else to play your game with. Sydney McLaughlin has never missed a full season of competition
that was many days ago, there's no way that running hard for 400m multiple days ago caused her performance to drop loads. She simply went out too hard by trying to keep up with sydney instead of running her own race so she ran out of gas. I'm sure she won't do that next time they race though.
Sydney was my favorite & for Good Reason. Glad she Got another world record Also wanna say Michael Johnson was confident yesterday in saying Sydney would do the 400m flat 😤. He implied she wanted to leave the Record with more breathing room💯 Also gotta agree with the Announcer believing Sydney wouldn't do her typical fast 200m start but conserve a little and use it all for the back stretch 💯
How do you bring up the first two splits but not say anything about the last two splits....which were the most SIGNIFICANT in the race? It's not how you start the race, it is how you finish, and that third split, when you post it, will make your mouth drop. That separation just off the curb to the second hurdle was.....breathtaking.
I like Bol but I'm so glad her annoying fanbase got humbled hard lol. She's not even close to the GOAT. As for Sydney, I would aim for sub 50.00 for a couple years and then switch to 400m flat regardless of whether she manages to go sub 50 seconds or not. She could definitely break the world record in 400m flat if she focused on it. Holding the world records for both events would be insane!
I really hope Sydney does lead off for the women’s 4 x 4. It will let us see if she can get close to the world record for the 400 m. That’s the one I really want her to get!
Same here. Just my opinion, but I don't think she should worry about running sub 50 in the hurdles. I hope she turns her attention to the 400 flat and sprinkle some more 200m races as well. We'll see
I agree. I think she should look at running in the 400m. If she can run the 400m with hurdles at this level I think she should look at competing in that race. Sydney is also an amazing 4 x 400 relay athlete too!
To the Femke Bol's fans, i hope this puts to rest the ridiculous comparison of Sydney vs Bol. Sydney is on a world of her own and Bol is competing with the rest. I had stated this earlier that Bol should focus on Silver because Anna C. and Clayton (who was a non factor in this race) had greatly improved. Now you guys have seen what took place. Sydney is golden, Anna has Silver because Bol tried to focus too much on Sydney, disrespecting the other competitors and she paid dearly for it (even got lucky for bronze cos the third American was very close in overtaking her). I hope this is a lesson learnt, and learnt the hard way.
Well, you are obviously in the inner circle and had it all planned out. I wasn't a firm Femke or Anna or Sydney fan before the Paris Olympics But, I'll tell you what. When Femke ran a sub-48 second relay leg in the mixed relay race that she had been involved in win, lose or draw for several years before, she made me a fan. The post-race interview between the three medal winners, shows how respectful they were. And how totally disrespectful you are.
@user-lf2og4kt5y Disrespectful!! Tell that to the rabid Bol's fans that started this and I am sure you are one of those.....coming here pretending that you are not. Just finishing what they started....
@@kutznnty7542 Completely wrong. My personal favourite races are the 1500m mens and womens. I was more concerned about Kerr vs Ingebrigtsen vs Nuguse vs Hocker vs Cheruyiot. The false close rivalry narrative was comprehensively dispelled last night. At least the idea of a closer finish caused the race to get the attention it deserved.
And some people thought this would be close lol. Stop forcing this nonexistent rivalry and never compare Sydney with Femke again. Sydney is in a league of her own. Generational athlete.
The difference between Cockrell and Bol is that she was humble enough to know that she couldn’t beat Sydney, so her strategy was to win silver. Bol actually believed the hype and naively believed she could compete for gold. When she realized her mistake, it was too late.
"Bol actually believed the hype and naively believed she could compete for gold." -----This was exactly Bol's problem----She let TV announcers like Ato Boldon and her many loud fans make her believe that she could beat Sydney-----------She should have run her own race but she let it get into her head that she could beat Sydney because of all the indoor records and running 50.95 a few weeks back.

Yall can stop this "rivalry" stuff. She stomped Bol n this was the biggest gap 🤣 in all 3 of their races. Bol is a beast no hate from me but at this point she is just a "challenger"
@eastcoastshine2009 I'm sorry but no it wasn't bro. Bols season PB was questionable cuz a bunch of sprinters at that same meet all set PBs as well you can look it up. But from what you're saying any of the girls that race Sydney is a rival cuz none of them can beat her either. Clearly Bol runs her best when Sydney isn't around. That's not a rival that's a competitor like the rest that try and catch up.
Research the definition of rival then you’ll be enlightened enough to know that’s exactly what Bol is as long as they’re dueling on any stage in women 400m hurdles. If people aren’t kneeling down to worship Syd like you do or want them to …tough shittt!!!
I wish Bol didn't run in the 4x400 mixed relay final. She still would not have beaten Syd today, but at least we would be spared from the upcoming excuses
That had nothing to do with todays performance she ran the mixed relay many days ago and was well rested, Femke ran out of Gas trying to keep up with Syd so stop the cap she can’t beat Syd it’s had been proven many time now.
I totally understand this sentiment, but she was amazing during the relay and her team won gold too; they absolutely needed her. Medaling at the olympics should be more celebrated. Gold is nice, but many athletes would kill for a bronze.
@@XxAziCodxX1 Why are you coming at me? I agree with you. I saw a few comments right after the race saying Bol wasn't fully rested because of the mixed relay.

No excuses. McLaughlin congratulations. If I were the government in Fenke Bol country I’d fire everyone on the track administration. Were they trying to destroy Bol. The 4x400 mixed relay before the other rounds of hurdle was very wrong. At least McLaughlin was much fresher and didn’t have to run down anyone in any other race. I’m hoping that she’s learned not to take on too much before ,especially when going up against a talent like McLaughlin. I’ll make sure she’s tagged and hopefully she will get that record at next year’s World championship… She’s still my favourite and will always be. Bol will change the game
Everyone who thought Bol had a chance was delusional to say the least… She tried keeping up with Sydney but realised that she’s on a whole different level.. And no one should come up with excuses about fatigue….she lost. Period
It was always clear that Femke had to overperform for herself by quite a margin, while Sidney had to to not do what she always seems to to (which is setting new world records). It was possible for Femke to beat Sidney, though not super likely; but anything can happen in a final of a big event. But alas, Sidney was stellar again breaking her won WR again, while Femke had a bad-ish race, being more than a second under her won PB. It is racing at the end of the day - you have to perform, just the stopwatch counts
@@PedroJohnston1 Some people take some internet comments way too serious. The few trolls claiming Bol would have this in the bag do not represent most people.
I felt for Femke. Once she saw that Sydney speed, I think it definitely threw her off her game. She needs to come to America and compete with the best!
Femke Bol was just swallowed up and sucking wind. She also ran multiple times before this race and was probably tired. The days of Carl Lewis and Jesse Owens are over where athletes can win multiple gold medals in different events are gone. The world 's athletes are on an even playing field especially with many athletes around the world training in the US. Competition is fierce!
Sydney Mclaughlin (Big Mac Laugh Line) was on top form breaking world record, USA a nation of 360 million with great facilities for ultimate training.. But credit to nations like Netherlands for competing at highest level with a population of 19million. This is the case with other smaller nations, keep going Femka Bol, you are a winner in the hearts and minds.
This was never a race for gold, it was always a race for silver. I dont think i've ever seen a race of Sydney where she looks like she's even going all out.
Great race by all the medalists!! People are being so hard on Ms. Bol; all the hype coming from everyone else (not her) led to fans being disappointed but *she medaled at this event! * They should all be proud of themselves!!
Sydney is in a class of her own. No one is catching her. Also the Dutch team should leave Femke out if the 4x400m mix relay so she doesn't have to burnout much energy ahead of her main event.
There is no doubt in my mind that SML will get the gold and break her own record once again. She is truly the GOAT and a true legend. The only thing I got wrong was Anna Cockrell who got the silver. This was surprising but not shocking. Anna is getting better and better each time. Unfortunately, Femke Bol just ran out of gas which may have been caused for running the mixed 4x400 mixed relay earlier in the week.
Congrats to Anna Cockrell so proud of you Family!! Don’t ever SLEEP on Anna she is AMAZING!! The sky is the Limit to what she can have!! You go Lady!!🙏❤🏃♀️🏃🏽♀️🏃🏽♀️🏃🏽♀️So Proud of YOU!!!
This is the first race I’ve seen live of Sydney and i was just in awe. She truly is one of the greats, the way she went out there and defended her title was insane, she definitely deserves that medal.
Yeah Sydney is one in a lifetime athlete. It is insane she can still push the time down with so much. I do feel bad for Femke who had one of the worst runs I have seen in a long time. I think she could not handle the pressure, because we already know she can run faster than this.
I haven't noticed before but Femke Bol throws her left arm out as she jumps the hurdles and you can see her unbalance. It must have an effect on her running. If she was to sort that out she could be a world record holder too!!
