I love the bbc commentators. They are knowledgeable and so positive with their comments. Sometimes it’s a little funny when a gymnast makes a big error and they still manage to say something nice or at least phrase the criticism in a positive way. Such a nice change from Tim Daggett gasping at every error like its the end of the world.
I agree! Unlike the US commentators, who focus mostly on their athletes and athletes from the "Big Four," these commentators show everyone possible, no matter what country they're from.
Shang Chunsong comes from an extremely poor, rural background. She has supported her family with her national team stipend since the age of 10. Her brother was taken out of education in order for her to continue in gymnastics. The area and background she comes from means her diet would have been utterly lacking. She is quite obviously malnourished in youth, her head is out of proportion. Aside from the fact that Asians tend to look younger than they are, she also has early dietary deficiency working against her. That does NOT mean she is underage.
I sometimes feel sorry for her... I wonder whether she will be able to retire when she wants to, or if she will have to continue to support her family.
There’s also the fact that she looked essentially the same age her whole career. If she WAS underaged around 12-14 like they say she was don’t they supposed she should be changing pretty drastically considering she would have been 15-17 at the olympics? It’s ridiculous the lengths people go to.
Its amazing that after this all around gold, Simone would go on to win 13 more World medals over the course of 3 years. Simone is amazing and I can't wait for her to succeed in Rio De Janeiro 2016.
Well she's got 30 World championship medals plus 7 olympic medals, safe to say, unless someone miraculous comes along she'll forever be enshrined as the most dominant and greatest gymnast ever male or female period!
Kudos to Simone Biles!! Not my kind of gymnast but I can appreciate her hard work. Edit: Can't believe what a difference 7 years makes! I couldn't be more of fan of Simone Biles!
Victoria Moors should've been shown on floor ahead of others with the moors first being done successfully in comp (double twisting double layout) it wasn't even shown as a performance in between rotations. Instead we saw Tunney and Harrold. Not that we shouldn't have but Moors routine it was an historic moment. I don't get why not every programming didn't shoe her routine at least that double double straight. First time in competition.
It's a shame Mustafina fell on floor in qualifying - had she performed like she did here, she would have qualified to the finals and could have potentially gotten silver or bronze in EF. Oh well - good performance from her here either way! :)
Can we just pay respect to Shang's floor routine? What happened to her presentation over the years? This was a delightful routine and had nice tumbling passes. She looks so much happy here than she did in Rio.
Chinese federation isn't known to pace their gymnasts well and no wonder she wasn't paced well and overworked. Same reason why Yao Jinnah flopped in London after such a stellar 2011 season.
If Kyla can up her difficulty (if sh does it will be precise and perfect like all her gymnastics) she will move out of silver and be a gold contender!!! She is amazing...ahe just hesitates a little too much and lacks the extreme difficulty. She went to London because of her consistency. BUT SHE DESERVES GOLD
I think that the reason why she hasn't upgraded her routines is so she won't burn out before Rio.. I'm sure she will upgrade them closer to the olympics in order for her to be a contender because I know for sure she can upgrade them and still be as consistent as she is now. That's what I think though :)
Jessica I agree! After watching the secret classic she's added a little but still holding back. Hopefully she will be healthy and ready for Rio. She's worked so hard since London. Now we are nearing the end of '14 most of the Fierce Five is back in the gym. I pray kula proves that hard work pays off!! I know many have made comebacks in both consecutive and skipped Olympics... But I so want to see kyla nail this and being home gold for herself.
Anna Pavfan The comparison is power. Shawn and Simone both benefit from huge power. Simone has so many qualities we saw in Shawn. It’s not disrespectful to say that Simone, an absolutely great gymnast, brings echoes of Shawn, another absolutely great gymnast, to the floor. It’s just as how Gabby reminds me of Nastia. They’re all unique and individual, but Simone does conjure memories of Shawn, especially on beam.
I honestly think that if Simone stays consistent and doesn't get any major injuries, she can definitely make the Olympic team. Kyla's also VERY consistent as well. She does amazingly well under pressure.
@@chrissyjoy08 Mitch Fenner started to say it was Gaelle Mys but corrected himself because the graphic said otherwise. They both figured out the mistake soon enough. Gaelle is one of my favorite gymnasts so I'm glad they knew who she was!
Did anyone else notice the floor music at 15:32?? It sounds like a remixo pf nuvole bianche by ludovico einaudi! I love that song! If anyone could tell me what gymnast used the music i would really appreciate it!
ever since they got ridof the no standing in the corner rule most of the gymnasts have put in these really stagnant dance moves so they can have a rest
I do think that Komova should have been in this competition, but I really enjoyed watching Mustafina and Ross. Their elegance and beauty is just amazing. I congradulate Biles for her difficulty scores and power, but I can't help but favor the runner-ups. At least U.S. brought it home for the win!
