I'm a dancer myself, this dance teacher was actually nicer then some of the dance teachers I've had. There are diffrent types of dance teachers who have diffrent methods of teaching his method was more strict and some dancers thrive under criticism but others don't ether way I think all there work paid of and they did amazing.

As a person who started dance at 19, everyone around me had been dancing for years and years, many even for a decade, and I was a literal toddler amidst a crowd of experienced adults, in both physicality and mentality. So I really connected with these girls' emotional struggles, those things are what you face when you start dancing. For those of you criticizing, don't forget that you had a start too. These girls were complete amateurs and to ask them to instantly hone the mentality of a professional dancer, which is like that of metal steel, is unfair. We should really applaud them for their effort and big jump out of their comfort zone.

I feel like since there is different levels and experience, I would be put with the inexperience or in my age group where everyone else is more professional at dancing than I would be. That's the thought that scares me the most...

People are saying the choreographers were too harsh on them, but the whole point was that they train like "professional dancers" As in the type that get to dance with celebrities. And thats the reality of it. They have every aspect of their body criticized and looked at to see how it can be better, and they have to take it and use that to improve, because thats their job.

The choreographer needed to encourage the girls more. I didn’t here one nice or good comment other than the girl choreographer and that doesn’t help the dancer. Dancers need encouragement to get through tough dancers. I get that they were being strict but not one complement is bad. I’ve seen a dancer for 9 years now and it feels amazing to know that you get something right and hear that from your dance teacher.

Dragon_ Fruit•-• i really agree. i am a competitive dancer who dances 12 hours a week and i not only get “work on this” but also “great job on that”. i think their “mental breakdowns” were mostly because they were only getting thing that they need to do better and no positivity.
@jessicatatum7769
@jessicatatum7769 6 лет назад
I've trained in a competitive ballet environment for 10+ years. It's all mental. l'm over the moon if the teacher pays personal attention to me with a correction. Getting told you actually look awful doing a step and getting it fixed is AMAZING. It means that they care about your improvement, harsh or not. However, I also feel like they edited out a lot content from their rehearsals, and I highly doubt that there was no praise given at all.

I much prefer Ashleys transformation, the environment they were in just felt so forced and horrible rather than learning how to move your body and get better. It shows in their end result how they were trained for the month
@monikas.6536
@monikas.6536 6 лет назад
I totally agree with you! And I also feel like the tittles for this two videos should be swapped. Ashley really trained like a professional (practising everyday, positive attitude, dealing with the corrections like a real dancer, taking technique classes). This video shows a lot struggles of begginer amateur dancers (learning to get togheter, to take critiques, to deal with insecurities), which is great, but I wouldn't call taking 3 classes a week a professional training.
@cookiesarelikecream
@cookiesarelikecream 6 лет назад
I agree. I feel like for this specific environment it’s not beneficial to make beginner and newbie dancers train like professionals who have years of dancing experience. People who train in this setting know basic moves and footwork and how to move their body confidently. The harsh criticism isn’t going to help if they aren’t at the level the choreographers are expecting them to be. Ashley’s dance environment was perfect for a beginner because it required learning and more basic moves. However, I do understand that the point of this video is to show how professional dancers train and how tough it is. Especially when you’re dancing in a group because you have to be in sync. Hopefully this won’t scare or turn off newbies from wanting to learn how to dance
@miraculouslb_fan8468
@miraculouslb_fan8468 6 лет назад
I know you think that this environment isn’t beneficial for newbies but that’s how it works in the dance world. Also most people start learning at the age of 3 or so there aren’t many 20 or so year olds starting to learn how to dance.
@CutiieDeviilX3

@zozoey_0537
@zozoey_0537 4 года назад
@@christynj291 dance is almost always about expression and if you have very bold and distinguished features, people are especially drawn to looking at facial expressions. it's important that you emulate the emotion you're trying to convey with your body on your face as well. there's a thing called "lyrical eyebrows" haha and it's essentially moving your eyebrows to express emotions while dancing, mostly in lyrical dancing.

Martina Duhani ikr Dancers put so much hard work into choreography and have to go through so much pain mentally and physically. This is my 7th year of dance and I consider dance more of a sport than others. Football players only play for seconds at a time dancers can be in a show for 3 - 10 minutes. I also take dance class 3 times a week for jazz, contemporary and ballet. Imagine being 11 and constantly being criticized and critiqued about your body and every single move that you make. So, next time you see a dancer and he/she is just working it up on that stage, you gotta think: Wow. Cause all that work that goes into that one or two shows is incredible. As a dancer it is nice to see people showing the emotional as well as the physical pain you get put through. The constant critique and even the feeling that you aren't good enough. Came here right after watching Ashly learning how to dance, and I don't care what you say, no matter how professionally you are being trained, no one should be that rude, if they are trying to make you see your flaws and work with them or fix them, a constructive criticism is the best way to do that. Not make your students have a mental breakdown.

The difference of environment of this video compared to Ashly's is incredible. I don't know if it's because these girls had "more experience" or if it's the editing but dance is about sharing and having fun just as much as it is about precision and elegance. That part didn't really shine through and it's sad.

WELCOME TO COMPETITIVE DANCING. They don't care how good you are, you can always be better. As a competitive dancer I cried multiple times from the critique I got. You have to be better otherwise your not good. But they critique you because they want to see you succeed. Sorry to say but that coach was actually nice compared to my old one. Experience is how you are able to see how they were trained in this video. Unless you literally make a move COMPLETELY flawless, you will not get any compliments. You learn to deal as a dancer because for every 10 nos, your gonna get one yes.

I have been dancing since I was 2 and am now going to college to study dance. Dance is truly one of the hardest things to do mentally, physically, and emotionally. I struggle with my confidence every single day and it honestly puts you in a hole that takes so much time to get out of. I can give advice to just about everyone else to help them be themselves and do well,but when it comes to myself, it is a never ending battle. Seeing this video made me actually really happy. To know that others see how hard it really is and it shows the mental and emotonal component of it is amazing. Many people dont understand the hard work and dedication it takes to do this all. But since I don't have anywhere to take class, it's been difficult to get back. I've lost a lot of my strength and flexibility. I'm so proud of these girls. I can relate to their insecurities and what they went through. I've also cried, I've also been picked apart piece by piece, insecurity by insecurity. Dance is relentless. I have danced since I was 4-5 so 6-7 years and it's hard work! I loved the teacher so much because he reminds me of my ballet teacher! She makes us work hard and she HATES wimps! You can NOT be a wimp in her class! This video so amazing and one of my favourite videos ever. Edit: Wow okay first I would like to thank you for over 2 k likes, that's amazing, and second, yes I believe dance is an art form too, it's both a sport and an art. Dance is also a way of expressing yourself, no matter if you've never danced a day in your life or have been doing it your whole life! Dance is hard and I'm not saying that your going to be amazing on the first day but saying that you don't need to be experienced to have fun, and having fun is the most important part of dance if it's a sport or not.

Jazz, you help me so much when I have body issues. Always being a bigger girl, I've always been scared to do physical hobbies. To be surrounded my thinner people that know what they are doing, I always feel shame. But I know if I don't try then nothing will happen. You're truly a wonderful woman, thank you 💜💚💜

Being a full-time dancer myself it’s actually so refreshing to know that I'm not crazy for having a breakdown most weeks! These girls did this for a month and by week three they were really struggling with the mental game and that's only doing one style! I do all styles, all day, everyday. Mentally it's challenging but I feel like when I tell people that I'm mentally struggling that always say "why its only dancing" but try being put down for your body imagine everyday, having to stare at your body and insecurities in a mirror and the constant rejection of the industry. People always ask me "if you’re feeling like that and are being told those things why do you still do it" but it's the love for what I do and being on stage that gets me through everyday. Thank you for showing such a truthful video about what its really like to be a dancer!

i left my last studio because they were so toxic and never encouraging. i’d walk in class shaking because the teachers were terrifying. at my new studio, i’ve never been yelled at, or hit, i haven’t pulled a muscle, and i don’t leave crying. these choreographers are going so hard on them, but encouragement is so important

Guys stop. Stop saying "that's just how the dance world is." No, I call BS. I'm a dancer and you can absolutely have teachers and choreographers who critique you without shaming you or discouraging you. There is a difference. Look at Ashley's video. The guy she worked with was so nice, but still honest. The dance world is cut-throat, and there often are harsh body-shaming teachers, but that doesn't mean it's good. That doesn't mean it's okay. If anyone in this video ever sees this, YOU ROCK. You guys are so great, every single one of your bodies is awesome. There is no one definition of sexy, one definition of beautiful, you are all amazing.

Although it comes across rude, their hard critiques that are meant to better the performance (This happens in all occupations but especially in dance, it is a hard sport that calls for a lot of "perfection"). I do agree that both of them could have been a bit nicer due to the girls being relatively new to dance however the teachers, being professional dancers/choreographers, have been conditioned to tell the truth to better their performance (sometimes the things that seem most brutal cause the most change). The girls all killed at the end despite their previous experience so all the instruction given helped. I personally know this to be true because I take dance myself too.

They wanted to train like dancers. That is how we are trained. There are specific ways to do things and if they do wrong then they need to be called out. It's not mean its bettering them.

I don't have a problem with THEM, I have a problem with the repetition of a single storyline over and over again. This is, after all, for entertainment purposes, and probably not entirely real(-alistic). Just thinks it gets old really quick.

Ashly's transformation was a beginner learning how to dance like a beginner. This video is people with minimal dancing experience (probably not that different from Ashly in terms of the technical stuff) learning how to dance like it's been their job for years (and the coaches were still probably going wayyy easy on them, if they were pros and they performed like that during rehearsals they would've just been straight fired lol). The stress constantly gets to people who have been in the industry for years, of course it's going to get to them too. Being a professional artist means you have to suffer a bit so that you can become truly great.
