I couldnt even enjoy this film cause i was too busy holding my tears in front of my mom and my girlfriend. Jesus christ, i cried for 70% of the movie...wtf?
Osmar Velasquez bruh I couldn’t watch the movie that whole time cuz I was staying stuck stay mad at the fact the parents only show attention to one child I feel bad her I know how it feels man feelsbadman
True, but also: good "Wonder" pun. I like how he connects personal experiences and emotions with the movie, clarifying how one person can be affected by the arts of film.
One of the things I loved about the book was that Augie's facial deformities were ambiguously. When I read it I would always have to imagine how he looked, which gave him more sympathy for me.
Gilbert Boot Yeah, I also wondered what Tristan Thorn’s hair, or not hair...eye color looked like during the Stardust book, but looking at the movie just ruined it for me because it was such a mystery before.... What the heck? I could understand issues with inaccuracy, but what’s so mysterious about Auggie’s face? It’s a frickin’ deformed face!! No mystery behind it!! It’s a deformed face!! Also, that’s how book adaptations work!! Ok, maybe I’m raging a little bit. But, I need at least some evidence that this was an intended mystery. If it’s what you people inferred, then I’m sorry...that’s barely an inference.
Please do. It will help her understand that not all people are bullies, she just needs to find the people who will support her (of course, you are already one of them, and I'm sure she does appreciate your support). Honestly though, people who are bullied shouldn't need to find people that support them, because they never should be bullied in the first place. Remember, bullies fear those who they see as different, but difference is not something to be afraid of, difference is beautiful.
Veron Chung Do you have anything particularly different about you I do my best friend died when I was in kindergarten I've been made fun of my whole life for being chubby and I recently found out I'm on the Autism Spectrum
I have a condition known as Cerebral Palsy. It has different forms, but for me, it affects my movement mainly in the legs. I also might have a disorder on the Autism Spectrum. Really sorry that your kindergarten friend died. Don't let people's words get to you. They might call you a lot of things, but the only thing they won't call you is what you really are: special, in your own unique way.
Tell your daughter this random RU-vid commenter thinks she's a fucking trooper for getting by! As for the bully, you should approach them, lean in real close, look them in the eye, and say "both your parents are going to hell".
Aaron Jones but why! I need to hear more about what he thinks about Justice League and he did spoiler reviews for Wonder Woman and Spider-Man Homecoming.
Oval Teen Ript Apparel. I have the shirt, however it’s not available now since they have 3 shirts a day and sometimes they offer themes. Since it’s not available anymore, try “shirtpunch” or tee public. But they are not as good so try to check on ript apparel everyday to see if there’s a shirt you like, they are only 13 bucks
The moment they cut to Jack Will's backstory, I knew this was going on my top tier. I really loved the faceted approach, covering all perspectives. The end was maybe a bit cookie cutter, estranged friends makeup, bullies acknowledge and befriend the kid. But overall this was maybe the best way this story could have been tol, in my opinion.
I was thankful that the main bully got what was coming to him - but not in a malicious way, just a "there are consequences for your actions" kinda way. Julian's mom made my stomach hurt and I know that was exactly the reason he was the way he was.
Movies like this really hits me since I have a disability called Cerebral Palsy so I can understand what they go through since I went through it from people when I was younger
Let me say what they would say to me "No one like you.","No one wants to be your friend" or "Everyone thinks your annoying" that was the things they would say to me during my middle school years.
Damn, dude that's rough. I have autism/Asperger's and people used to pick on me for being "different" too. I'm really sorry that happened to you but I just want to let you know that there are good people in the world too that are worth being friends with who will respect you for who you are and I'm sure you can find them if you look.
Do not despair or feel sad. Your difference makes you more different than other, so-called "normal" people's differences. The "normal" people think they're so normal, when they have differences too. They just don't see it. I have CP and maybe Asperger's (never got a diagnosis for Asperger's, but definitely have CP). I don't get a lot of negative attention for it, because I don't get a lot of attention in the first place, because I tend to keep to myself. But, I've managed to make a few good friends here and there, and for now, it's good enough for me. In sixth grade, there was this bully who was a really scrawny kid, but he talked tough and everyone just generally avoided him. He picked on me more than anyone else because of my gait (due to the CP). I tried standing up to him a few times, didn't work, so I guess that's why my self-esteem got affected. But... those kids who pick on people that are different, they are terrible people. If they make some insensitive comments, then they just don't know better. If they do it with perceived hurtful intent, that's bullying. Still, whenever people pick on me, for whatever reason, they usually resort to one defence when I point it out. "It's just a joke." I'd say, "Am I laughing right now? No, right? So, obviously, I don't think it was a joke and you've hurt my feelings." Then they'd just laugh and tell me, "Don't be so serious!" Then walk away like nothing happened. I would feel terrible. So I absolutely know what it's like to be in this sort of situation. However, don't worry. Those bullies just don't see what makes you so special and different from the others. They don't understand that your differences let you experience things that they'd probably never think of doing. Case in point, when I was younger (like 6-7 years old), I'd wake up early on weekends to do exercise to train up my legs. The bullies definitely would still be sleeping at that time. Bullies fear difference, and sure, you can see your difference as a curse, and while I admittedly feel like that sometimes, most of the time I consider it a beautiful thing. It lets me see the world differently and have different experiences. It will be the same for you. Most importantly, as others have said, there are good people who will look past your differences and see you for who you are, in your heart. I know this sounds like generic melodramatic crap, but it is very true. Don't let the words of bullies put you down. They want to feel special, when they fail to see that everyone is special in their own way. But people like you and me, and other people not seen as "normal", we don't need to feel special, we know that we are. The best thing to do is to find a person to confide in, make some good friends who appreciate you, and find out what your strengths are. Then, when you see bullies, you tell them, "I can do this, and this, despite the fact that you treat me like I'm different and laugh at me. If I'm different, so are you. Why don't you laugh at yourself?" TL;DR: Bullies will always pick on those they see as different. See yourself as special, pay no attention to what bullies say to you, find friends who appreciate you as a person, and play to your strengths and talents. There'll always be people who will talk down to you. But, don't forget that there are always those who love you and support you, and see you for who you are: a wonderful, unique person.
As a 20 year old guy. I can relate to this movie. I was bullied as kid. Any nobody understands you. But your family. When you find those friends how are there for you and caring. It is great.
I really like this approach that Chris takes to films that are about serious subjects. He acknowledges how serious they are, shows how he relates to them, and is totally sincere when discussing them. Also, he manages to still review the film rather than get too “Soapbox” about the subject.
I've been waiting for this movie since I first read the book a couple of years ago. Finally it came to my country (bangladesh) two weeks ago and I watched the movie in an virtually empty theater. i'm not even kidding, there were LITERALLY 5 people in the theater including me. On the other hand there were these hugeeeee lines for Justice League and Thor Ragnarok. I had the best theater experience of my life, i could sit in the best seat in the house, with no annoying movie-goers around and got to see one of the best movies of this year. But it also saddened me that people tend to prefer over saturated flashy popcorn flick superhero movies instead of an actual good film...
I didn't know that you were an Aide for children with Special Needs. I went to see this movie in the theatre with my Mom. I had read the book the movie is based on but my Mom did not- I have loaned it to her to read though- and 'Wonder' really struck a chord with me. I was bullied in school for many years for being different and seeing the struggles Auggie goes through brought back my own struggles. It is a fantastic movie and I strongly suggest everyone see it and/or read the book its based on.
Kirk Donnelly Ript Apparel. I have the shirt as well, they have 3 shirts available a day for 13 dollars each. If you can’t catch the shirt within that day, try tee public or shirtpunch
Reminds me of high school where there was a blind boy in my class who's name means eagle in English. I helped him a lot to the point people where expecting me to help him all the time. One day I was sick and people where blaming me for not being there to help him. To say I was angry is an understatement. In short this movie felt very relatable to me.
My only criticizism is that Auggie as shown in the movie really isn't that ugly. It's obvious that he has had some major surgery, but it's really not that severe. In real life kids would more likely just accept that he's a little weird looking and move on pretty quickly. The other characters just play up his appearance as being more horrible than what's shown.
+TheJaredtheJaredlong There's an interview with a kid who almost looks the same as Tremblay (with the makeup on) and he has Treacher Collin's Syndrome. He's been bullied just as badly. That's not necessarily that far from real life.
Aidan Yelsma I know I read it it 3rd grade and these idiots who haven't read it are treating this TERRIBLE ADAPTATION like it's a masterpiece this is why I never get excited for adaptations beside anime adapting manga

moviemaster marco the season was really good but s2 needs to step it up with bigger heroes and better sfx,, and the finale was very badly put together. it just... happened, and then it was over.
Kids are mean! Not just to kids with different conditions. But to kids that are really cute and are the teachers pet. To fat kids. To skinny kids. To rich kids and poor. The bottom line is kids can be mean because they haven’t grown up. They are still maturing and it’s up to the adults to show them the way. To lead by example!!! Unfortunately now days a lot of adults are acting worse than their kids!!
I love you Chris! I'm a fellow film lover that's hoping to be apart of the film industry too. Just wanted to say that I love your videos and keep up the good work!
UnbelievabIeMontages there's no bad time for trying to be supportive, i'm not trying to be disrespectful due to what the tone of the film is, i'm just trying to tell one of my favorite youtubers that I enjoy his work
I relate so much to this movie, I have Cleft lip and palate (look it up) and when I was younger I was stared at, laughed at behind my back, I hated my childhood but everything is so much better since I've met my best friend
This struck a chord with me too. I went to a small elementary school with a fantastic develop-mental program with which I volunteered for my 6 years there. Most of the kids had physical issues as well and I remember some of the kids in my class wouldn't play with me after volunteering until I washed my hands, afraid I would get the r word germs on them. That always stuck with me and I cried alot because of how cruel some kids would be. Luckily I had great parents who never instilled such horrible thoughts in me and encouraged me to be kind to everyone. Sorry for the ramble. Lots of feelings coming back haha. Great review!!
Morgalor it’s fantastic, watch. My favorite Netflix show IMO, I might need to rewatch daredevil season 1 to be sure but still, definitely worth the watch

I saw this today and I LOVED IT. It's a wonderful story, really tugs at the heartstrings in the best way (not like Fault in our Stars or something). It has a lot of great messages and all the actors are very good. Go see it!
Hey just love your shirt and glad you enjoyed the movie too. I think that some plot lines did wrap up to fast too but i thought the bully storyline and his friends had a weaker plot
The best way to handle a bully is to STAND UP to them. Everyone should stand up to bullies, and stand up for the few less fortunate amongst us who cannot stand up for themselves. Of course, we don't live in a perfect World, I'm anything but naive, but that doesn't mean we all can't do everything within our power to try making the World as close to perfect as we can. It's not about aceing the test, it's about completing the work. 👍😇
I think it should be don’t treat anyone in a negative way, because “how you want to me treated” can be tricky. Some people might like to be treated in a shitty way
This film brought a tear to my eye. No sugar coating what it's actually like to have a facial disfigurement growing up in school. It can be the most terrorising and terrifying thing ever and this movie gets it right. It's not a perfect film though I kinda predicted the ending since the beginning but I loved this and it's definitely seeing!
Hey Chris, Love your reviews and videos. I always look forward to them. I did have a request can you review The Bad Batch? If you haven't already, hadn't seen a review by you on it so I was wondering if you'd take a look at it if you would. Thanks keep up the great work
Hey Chris, could you review The Polar Express, i always casually enjoyed it and watch it every time it's on in December but it was only recently that I found out how many critics really detested it and audiences felt similarly...perhaps for different reasons. Would love to hear your thoughts on it, esp since it's Christmas time.
Not saying much , most movie adaptation of book isn't as good as the source material even if the movie is good/great . I bet even the Twilight Saga was better as books.
As someone with health and medical disorders. Just like the character in the film. I’ve got to say this movie was amazing. I hope to see this film helping others with disorders to be themselves. This film is Beautiful in my option A+.
+Veron Chung Maybe the actors did something horrible? I've been boycotting Mark Wahlberg movies and people did the same for Roman Polanski's film for such reasons.
