The movie needs an After Credits scene where Random Handsome Man gets fired from his job due to going AWOL, gets dumped by his lover because he stopped being in contact and was seen galavanting with a beautiful woman, gets on the wanted list because he got caught in CCTV stealing a plane, and, finally, goes bankrupt after he uses all his savings trying to find out why he can't remember what happened in the past few weeks and why his life is suddenly in ruins.

If Patty is reluctant to add action scenes to a movie about a highly skilled mythical warrior, then WB needs a new director because she clearly doesn’t get the character and the fandom either.

Wonder Woman isn’t always the badass tho. I don’t think you get the character and the divide that DC has between the two types of Wonder Woman. The first version of Wonder Woman is the peace keeper and messenger as patty depicted here. So she understands the character. Then later down the comic book line she becomes the warrior character and she also depicts the version. What’s the issue? Don’t hate the director because you personally don’t like what they did. Just give them feedback then move on rather that badmouthing them on a RU-vid comment section.

I don’t think it’s subverting expectations as much as it’s just it being a poorly made movie. I’ve watched and read many reviews and the general consensus is that the script is poor, the pacing is off, lack of action, too long, continuity errors, and poor cgi is what brought down the movie for a lot of people. I wanted to love this movie the trailers got me excited but all the best scenes are in the trailer and what we got was a shell of the first movie.

I agree. I didn't mind the first movie but I was super hyped for the new setting and time period. The marketing and trailers had me super excited. The tone was exactly as I expected, and one of my favorite parts of the movie. What sucked was the writing. Things were over-complicated and under explained. There was so much that served no purpose. To me it was empty, emotional moments with no intellectual depth to actually get me invested or have any real meaning.

The issue is when directors/writers think that a film is popular because people like them and not because people like the source material. I'm starting to suspect WW84 is the real Patty Jenkins movie with all the Harry Potter vibes and Hallmark moments, complete disregard for any kind of continuity or the audience in general, whereas in the first movie other people on set pulled and she just got to take the credit for it. Things like this happened in Hollywood for decades, but usually the person getting the credit threw some nepotism shoe-in was smart enough to let the people with real experience do the work. After Barbara's prop papers and briefcase magically transformed for the 5th time in a row i had to take a long break before i could watch the rest of the movie.

Zack Snyder did more than just casting for the first Wonder Woman and Aquaman movies. He and his team led the two movies through development, and he put in a lot of work to make them even happen in the first place, including attaching the directors. If the first Wonder Woman movie and Aquaman did well, that's because they're part of the Snyder verse vision and benefited from his direction. Even the color palette is very Snyder in those movies. We see how Patti handled a beloved superhero without Snyder grounding her in the storyline. It's not enough to be a good director, you have to be a DC fan that understands the characters you're bringing to life.

It's funny how Rian Johnson is an example of both sides to this. In Last Jedi, he was too entrenched in subverting expectations and so it came out bad; meanwhile in Knives Out, everything from the twists to the dialogue to the characterisation was perfect. Overall, I think his issue is that he can't write other people's characters. Thor Ragnarok was the opposite of this situation though. They took the aspects of the first 2 films people enjoyed the most which was basically leveraging the comedic talents of the two leads and made that the whole movie. This movie carved out the aspects of the character with mass appeal. Thor 3 also added things that complimented what worked. Valkyrie was just brilliant across the board and Hela was a delight. Twists and turns are fine, but you cannot make the "surprise" that the character is not at all what you thought they were, not in a blockbuster that costs $150 million or more.

It's a buried nugget that's a tip of the hat to the pioneers of the medium. No one has any problem with QT for example because he's reinventing as he draws from his encyclopedic knowledge of film. Same with Scorsese. Even someone a blatant as De Palma still created a style of his own using the Hitchcock playbook. In a blockbuster where it's part of the marketing it feels like a blatant ripoff belying a bankruptcy of ideas. Sort of how gentrification operates by consuming the fringe and then up-selling it as chic.

They will need someone to replace him, who can work and deliver as much as Johns does and they will need a good amount of evidence that he should be let go. He could be one of those people who is always sabotaging others JUST under the radar so it can't be proven they're actual motives. Sadly, not enough people go to their managers or HR to try to fix bad behavior. Instead they vent and gossip to people who can't change it. I'm sure at this point everyone in WB is aware of his nonsense. It's just a matter of time till he's distanced from more and more film/tv projects.

But I feel that Patty should have included a really cool third act when wonder woman actually regains her full powers and how she fights in with her full powers (i.e. the aggressive warrior she is). I think it would have at lease have helped redeemed a slight bit of the movie especially since this is a superhero movie and it would have helped solved the problem of a lack of action.
