Glad this window popped up this morning and will selfishly save it for later in the day when chores are done, animals all fed, and fire wood cut...Thank you and cheers...rr Normandy, Fra
I also like creating boxes and fancy myself as a luthier . I also like oak as a rigid and durable wood to build the surface tops of my furnishings and fingerboard of string instruments. Thank you for sharing this fantastic collection of boxes of yours and yes, the designs of some have been most inspirational.
The shaker chest was in hard maple. Brown oak is ordinary oak which has been infested with a beetle found in the UK, it's a lovely wood. They used to burn it but now it fetches twice the price of normal oak. All the best, David.
Hi Steve, I've been making tools! Woodworkers in the US have a veracious appetite. Don't worry the next set of videos will be out in the Summer. All the best, David.
Really appreciate your sharing the boxes. They'd be impossible for me to find otherwise. I hope you'd keep the vids coming, although they're time consuming - and expensive in other ways as well - to make.
Wow, really enjoyed this. One thing I've discovered with my woodworking(am quite the amateur,) and a few other of my life's pursuits; I'll never get "there," but hopefully every effort, evening the "failed" ones teachs and moves me forward...Comparing your skill level and mine would be like comparing flying a kite and the StarShip "Enterprise," but my kite seems to gain altitude little by litte...cheers...rr
Inspiring indeed. What kind of wood was the Shaker chest? I'll guess flamed birch. And a piston fit for sure on the one before.Never seen brown oak before(US here),really attractive. Here on the east coast its mainly white and red. Thanks for all of your videos
Wow, that cube box Is wonderful! I love boxes with little, simple tricks like that, it makes them so interesting! I was wondering how I could get my hands on one (I'm in Australia), and if there were any other great boxes with tricks like that (maybe even with a lock, I noticed none of the ones shown have one) that are in Australia. Would appreciate help.
+Skelemore If you google Japanese puzzle box you'll see some fantastic examples and they should be available to you in Australia. Sorry for the delay in replying. All the best, David.
Great collection and YES!!! Absolutely plenty of inspiration! Just wish you would of showed a bit more detail close ups on some of the drawers and backs and bottoms , as in some of Birds and perhaps some full rotations on the first few!!?? PS It would be nice if you could ask your viewer to send in pictures of some of their works and/or collections also? A La Jon Peters like some of his viewers and their accomplishments every so often, just a thought. Otherwise always enjoy your work and videos! keep em coming!! thank you!
Thank you! It's difficult to know how long to spend on things and how much detail to go into, many people have a short attention span. More of the work can be seen on the websites of the makers I mention. All the best, David.
