Season 6 brought the first big game kill on the history of Alone. Some folks thought it was fabulous, some were horrified. I saw a lot of comments and got a few personal messages about it. In this video I talk about my opinion about some of these comments and concerns about this kill, and hunting in general

Ah thanks Woniya! The shot of me saying thank you, and giving a huge hug to the moose didn't make it on there, and the countless times I expressed utmost gratitude....I appreciate your time and your great explanation of the situation - it shows you know what your talking about and your such a good teacher! Nice woven rabbit scarf )))... (I was glad it was a male moose so as not to affect the population in any significant way...)

You're so welcome Jordan. Just telling it like I see it! I am all too aware of the great many things we experience out there that don't make the cut and all the things the viewers are likely not aware of. I believed that of you for sure and it's good to hear it! And yeah, that scarf was the best thing ever! haha, i had cranberry juice all over my nose in the footage of me making it! didn't realize it til after i filmed it! glad it wasn't too obvious!

People who are being critical of you, aren't hunters. They have no idea how many hours we dedicate to honing our skills especially bow hunting. People who spend that much time in the woods, love the woods, and the creatures in them.

Grateful for you sharing your wisdom on this. I was so rooting for you to win Season 6, and totally respected your decision to control your exit. Jordan was indeed a skilled and worthy competitor and I was glad to see him make it to the end. I loved seeing you and the other amazing women make it so far in the competition-you are great role models and brought well articulated feminine strength to the forefront. Looking for ways to support you all so you can reap some more rewards from your experience. I do appreciate how much wisdom you seemed to have gained in spite of (or perhaps because of) not having the financial win. Blessings to your incredible spirit!

Killing an animal for food to prevent starvation, okay. But this is a designed game show that puts people in the middle of nowhere and in a situation they need to kill for food....It's not like they're really in this situation in reality. So, in reality, they don't need to hunt and kill; this is done for show and money.

There are 7 billion people on earth. There are at most maybe 1/4 million Elk or 2-3 million deer in any given state. Its not possible to feed the world with wild game. Wild game can support the worlds population from 15,000ya. Which is a couple of million people, at most. "Factory" farming is the only way to provide quality animal based protein for everyone, especially impoverished people. The countries that dis-allow factory farming by law (India), or by being degenerate nations (Africa), all have overwhelming malnutrition of their average population. And those two examples are 1.3B & 1B people.

Great video! You make many great points. Until you brought it up, I had never thought about the issue of where animals actually feel pain. I'm a CT scan technologist, and we often times assist our radiologists in performing CT guided biopsies. As soon as you mentioned how often times internal organs don't have much sensation, I thought about how when we do lung biopsies, the only part that causes the patient discomfort is the initial needle stick in the skin and external tissue, and then when the biopsy needle pokes through the lining of the lung (the pleura). Once inside the lung, the patient doesn't feel the needle. Other organ biopsies are similar in that usually only the more external tissue needs to be numbed up, while the organs feel little. Yes, what it takes for us to be able to put a bite of meat in our mouths isn't a pretty process, but I do feel that wild game, hunted respectfully, is probably the prettiest way that this can be done. Way too many people these days seem to think that meat is just somehow magically created in some back refrigerator at the local grocery store. I've heard several people complain over the years that they, "can't eat meat off of a bone". I just have to laugh at such out-of-touch thinking, while being disturbed at the same time. I'm pretty sure that these people would be utterly shocked to see that their chicken nugget not only grew on a bone, but that it also came from a chicken that lived its short life in a crowded, filthy, stinking, factory farm building. Or I'd love to see their faces when they see the cow that their hamburger came from, in a feed lot pin, literally almost covered from head to hoof in feces. Yep, meat procurement isn't pretty, but most folks these days are so insulated from where their food comes from that they don't have clue. At any rate, great thoughts! And I'm looking forward to seeing how the remainder of Alone season 6 shakes out! -Gareth

It never occurred to me that people watching Alone (many of these people who should NOT be watching a show like this) would question the moose kill and not worry about any of the other kills simply because the show depicted the moose kill because Jordan filmed it. Hey, people.. what about all the squirrels and rabbits that were snared and were found the next day frozen? Do you REALLY think these animals died instantly from being snared? Come on...

This was a great season of the show and you two were by far my favorite contestants. I would have been so happy to see either of you win. When I knew it was down to you 2, I was happy that one of you would win, but sad that I would have to see one of you "lose". However, Woniya, you're exit was my favorite in the show's history: both joyful and bittersweet. -Powerful and graceful; very "you". - Certainly not a loss of anything other than some money that wasn't yet yours. This video of you coming to support of one of your "competitors" just reinforces that the way you where portrayed on the show was is in fact reality. This video should be shown to anyone who doesn't understand winning/losing AND anyone who doesn't understand hunting. I only just saw the final episode last night and was heartbroken you had to leave, but what else could you do? Money can't take the place of thriving health in the long run. So glad you talked about the moose kill. He absolutely did the right thing, and it's always hard to witness the death of a beautiful animal. But as you talked about with the slaughterhouses, that is a far worse death than any skilled hunter could cause. Hunting is the THE most humane way of procuring meat. Far more big game starve to death than are ever taken by hunters. Who would want that suffering?? Wolf kills are gruesome indeed, but it's part of the circle of life. Thank you for this thoughtful and well-spoken video.

You're phenomenally eloquent and sharply intelligent. Just subbed, looking forward to watching more of your videos. We were routing for you throughout! Matt.

You go Girl. Living in the interior of Alaska. Alone, in a cabin without water I’m deeply thankful that you take the time to explain to people who lost a healthy connection with nature, meat processing a long time ago. I was very impressed to see your skills out there. ... and you are right it’s time that a woman wins it. For me you are the one who could have don’t it. I know how cold and dark the winter are in the arctic because I live not far away from it. You did so well. Take care.

Two Natal Yods You are kidding, right? Women have the same chance to win that like men. What exactly can men do that women can’t do there? In fact many women at the show were tougher than their male competitors. Hysterical crying after 6 weeks and calling out for wifie is not exactly winning material.

I know it's been awhile, but thanks to Netflix, I just finished watching Season Six. My wife and I made a wager with each other about who would win. By the end of the first few episodes, my wife and I were divided between you and Jordan, but we knew it would be one of the two of you to win. Your mental toughness and skill sets really shone through. We both thought so highly of you and have so much respect for who you are. Our best wishes to you in all your future endeavors!

We in my family really loved you and your tenacity and we were pulling for you to win but by the same token I really liked Jordan. He seemed to be like a big kid playing with his toys as far as this whole survival thing. What you said about Jordan and the moose killing was spot on . Ive seen a guy make a lung shot on a deer and i told him not to keep following it but he did for over a quarter mile and the blood played out and no deerwas found. One has to be able to control their euphoria of the circumstances and do the right thing.

I love you (metaphorically). Not only did you explain this well but you also opened my eyes. I'm going on my first hunt this fall (deer) and you've done two things for me: 1- I am going to make it a personal mission to be as responsible as I can. 2- my 16 year old dog is in his final months and your video has comforted me relating to "suffering" of an animal. Thank you 💖

Woniya, a great explanation for folks that think meat comes from a meat tree or is magically produced from thin air. I agree absolutely with everything you have stated. I was pushing for you to win the episode as you suffered and survived so well, I have to say as well you look bodaciously lovely, well rested and recovered from it all, my best Glen.

I think it comes down to this, anyone who thinks Jordan was in some type of position to minimize the animal's suffering is just so far gone from reality they aren't even worth trying to reason with.

Thank you woniya. It’s awesome to see the person who finished second to Jordan defend him. Cause he did nothing wrong the name of the game is alone. Wich is about surviving by any means necessary. Wich is what he did. He did no wrong so thanks for backing him up. Also. I was honestly amazed by your shelter building skills. Such a big beautiful home you built. An awesome just a wonderful person you are.

I know this is an older video but I just now saw it. As a life long hunter who dreams of an Alaskan Moose hunt adventure. I can say you're absolutely spot on in everything you said. It was completely accurate and well thought out with great articulation to non hunters without being condescending. I don't often find myself agreeing with every single point someone makes about hunting or not hunting. As much of it is a state of opinion. Especially with so many points made in this video. From my perspective you nailed every point accurately. Well said. I haven't watched season 6 yet. Just now half way through 5. Though I know the outcome i'll still root for you when the wife and I start it.

Woniya, just found the channel after finishing season 6 with my wife. You did an EXCEPTIONAL job on the show! By the end I was rooting for all 4 of the last contestants and especially you, would have been too cool to see you outlast everyone. Alas you had to make a very hard choice based on your understanding of the circumstance. Sorry if I spoiled anything for anyone that hasn’t finished yet. Also a great explanation of the real truth of that specific survival situation for folk that have never had to make those choices. Hope the sub, like and comment helps you.

9+ 0:03 / 21:00 Woniya, nice little talk about hunting and ethics. You raised some good points comparing hunting to industrial meat production. Vegetarians notwithstanding, we are all killers, but most of us have proxies doing our killing for us. Glad to see you are doing well and best wishes.

Most people don’t know but real hunters probably have more respect for the animals they take more than a non hunter or vegan. Even though it sounds contradictory.

You were favorite of mine to watch in the show, Just finished it. Good video explaining this, so many don't get it. As a big game hunter, I bless all of my meat and after the shot comes the hard work to take care of the animal begins. Bring it home to family and friends is reward. Long hunts where I don't get one, are some of my most favorite, ~5 day trip in bush and not all the hard work. ASIDE: We travel with a trailer that is a meat locker. Confident hunter, maybe. 120% want to take care of the animal, you bet ya.

You are so 100% right. Here in the UK we are not allowed to hunt with bows or crossbows they say it causes suffering...... Yet we farm animals and make them suffer daily.... But we can hunt small game with a air rifle with a .22 pellet that unless hit correctly and accurately it will cause suffering. Hunting in the UK is kida frowned upon though sheeple are happy about the cruel farming industry.
