I was a crafting machine out there in the arctic, but very few of the things I was making ever made it on to the show. Luckily, I hauled everything that could fit on that helicopter back with me and now I get to show it to you!
I really wished they showed more crafts and just people making and building things. That’s what I find the most interesting in the whole show. Thanks fo creating this video!
Exactly! I get so tired of the same old dialogue where the folks are harping nonstop on how much they miss family. The emotional aspect is a key part of the show, but the producers push it way more than necessary. It would be so refreshing to show more of the mechanical skills needed to survive outside of "push-button-fast-food" society.
oooh i wish we could see all of your footage, thanks for being diligent and filming it even though the editors didn't include it. what a treasure trove it must be! there were so many important aspects watching you on alone: your deep integrity and respect for the land (and all who dwell there), your enthusiasm in teaching and sharing as you went along, and your hardcore planning going into this. being able to harvest and use parts of your own buckskin jacket and quiver.... my gawd that's brilliant. i know we only saw a fraction of your time there and you probably had your own meltdown moments but by far you are the most grounded, composed person in any season, so meticulous and aware of every move you make. if i could give you half a million dollars or some land i'd do it in a heartbeat, no one could be more deserving and respectful of it than you.
Thanks so much Jen. I am so glad all of that came through. those feelings were what I wanted to share with people, and the idea that we can be that present and grounded living in connection with nature, rather than the idea that it is grueling and that the natural world is out to get you. and honestly, i didn't have melt down moments out there. hard moments, sure, but the whole thing was amazing and beautiful and i was grateful for it, even the hard moments, because they were so wild and so real, you know? Happy to have this medium to share more!
Sooooo ridiculous they didnt show your crafts! So incredible and important and i believe kept you in a good state of mind because of your love of creating beauty from the land!!!
That was a huge part of it for sure! It meant there was always something wonderful to look forward to! Instead of actual meals- weaving baskets! Almost as good!
I get it! I’m a single woman who has built and continues to build my home off grid in the wilderness and creating beauty around me has given me tremendous energy! Do you have your own land yet? I really want that for you!
Awesome, thank you. No, i dont. I left the home I built by hand years ago in my off grid community because i couldn't live my dreams and create the school i envisioned there. I am working toward being able to get land again, but having sunk everything i to that place for all of my 30's I do t have a nest egg built to do so again yet. One day, fingers crossed!
@@BuckskinRevolution you can make anything happen! I bought 20 acres in the wilderness with NOTHING and I’m focused on buying all the land around me to keep it private and WILD. I believe in you and your spirit and intelligence, and one day when I’m flush with land I will help you! The wild needs people like you to honor and protect it! Look me up on Instagram and if you’d like to visit and even teach here, let’s talk! I’m in So. CA @wildthingzecofarm
My wife and I watched Alone and hoped you would win and you did in our eyes. Enjoying and learning so much since then on your channel here... Regards and best wished from the Pyrenees,
Woniya just wanted to say that you are nothing short of amazing! Your intelligence, spirit, ingenuity and nature awareness was so great to watch on Alone and I knew immediately you’d be there at the end. I don’t usually watch these sort of shows but my wife started it and the legitimacy of a few of the contestants got me interested. Glad I did. You’re an absolute inspiration to my whole family and for sure my only daughter. Congratulations on your journey and thanks for sharing your experiences!
I'm surprised they didn't show you crafting and everything it would have made for better tv than some of what we were shown! Love your energy and enthusiasm. Thank you for sharing so much knowledge.
I know! I was very surprised and disappointed too. At the same time, that is why I made the videos, which are more detailed than the show would have been, so maybe it is all for the best?
@@BuckskinRevolution definitely because now we can all learn all the fine details that make it so much more meaningful. I love how enthusiastic you are. Thank you for the inspiration to be more connected to the our home.
I love the personality and energy. You sincerely have the potential and capabilities to be a successful youtuber. Making good money from it too, it would be fun to see you use revenue from videos to go and do a one week or one month "ALONE" Style camping trip. Only ten items and film it all alone. Very cheap to produce but very valuable in terms of creating a channel. People would love it!
Great Video and congrats on your amazing skill-set and also your survival skills. When you have the time I would love to see a tutorial on your channel on basket weaving and on how to properly make rabbit rope. You are an incredible instructor and I have learned so much from your videos. Thanks.
Up until yesterday Tuesday July 21, 2020, I had never heard of "Alone"! These COVID days have me binging so I watched season 6 yesterday! I was cheering for you Woniya from the moment I saw your instinct to live as One with Nature. I thought you'd win but winning isn't everything... As a Native American I much more appreciated the way you integrated yourself with Mother Earth.
I find it amazing what you did with your experience on Alone...what you did with your time while alone...I was rooting for you. Actually yelling at the TV screen...Don't do it! Hold on a little bit longer!...When I heard your explanation of it being your birthday and how much weight you lost...You talked of being loving to yourself...I saw this as gold...I know nothing about surviving in the wilderness...It's something I never really thought about...until recently.
You are amazing, Woniya. I am truly in awe. I was so proud of you out there representing the women of this world with Michelle and Nikki and you kicked ass!!! I am going to follow you and soak up your knowledge and attitude as well. I live in Lynchburg, Virginia, where Jordan is from. Please come and visit!
Loved watching you the whole way. Great items and they would fight me tooth and nail to stop me from bringing it all home. Great job and great to see you on here
I watched the Arctic season programs just recently ,, I am impressed with your skills and knowledge ,, and openness to share...no doubt if ever in an area of real abundance,, many of the contestants would be able to survive at least a year easily.... But not sure that would make for good tv drama....I will look at some of your other videos and work as well ,, we can all learn new things with the help of others....Thank You Woniya ,, for sharing your story......Stay Safe and God Bless....
Woniya you are an exceptionally beautiful woman. i very much enjoy learning leather craftsmanship from your videos. i am planning to get some deer hide to make a buckskin hunting suit.
Woniya, I'm so inspired by your journey on Alone. It was the first season I saw of Alone and I feel like I'm still processing what I witnessed. Thank you for sharing your deep relationship with the land. I wasn't surprised to learn that you sang the sun up in the morning. That deep intention must be there to survive what you did. The way you were present and able to know when to leave the show was such a teaching for me. I'm inspired to learn more and be in deeper relationship with nature after watching your you and the youtube videos. Maybe someday I'll take a class and learn from you!
thank you, i hope you will too! Consider signing up for the mailing list on my website to stay in the loop about my classes! www.buckskinrevolution.com
Woniya I just finished alone season 6 and wanted to say that I think you're great! I just graduated college and am kind of reckoning with certain aspects of modern life that bring me down. You're incredibly inspiring to me in the way you live so interconnected with nature and other people. I checked out Buckskin Revolution's website and love how socially inclusive it is, as well as informative with practical skills. Thank you for doing what you do-- and keep it up! I'm making changes in my life, and am grateful to have people like you to look to!
I like all your baskets and other projects good job. I like both of your bow quivers I just started shooting a Ben Pearson recurve this past year it's been a blast. I have both the back and side quiver there are awesome for vintage gear working on redoing a crossbow from Ben Pearson also at the sec. I love the rabbit scarf did you make that then? I just ordered a bunch of 100% cashmere socks mittens, 100% Merino and 100% angora rabbit mittens they are so soft from Russia. I love 100% cashmere I'm a big fan of 100% natural fibers. Love your passion I have all the same passion as you, keep up the good work
Did you ever consider building some sort of shelter you could push or pull out on the ice for fishing ? My sunny southeastern existence means I can't even begin to understand how cold that must have been.
Enjoy you on the show. Great performance. I don’t think anyone, from any season, would outlast Jonas though. Maybe you will get another chance. I’m sure they will do a season with all the runner-ups soon.
This was so so wonderful.learning from you as you casually and naturally talk about what you created in the field.. much respect, & many thanks. We never saw your episode and now are hunting for it! Anyone got a link or name of her season? One Love
4:56 it was pretty funny, a nice Lady that might be born in the woods, the daughter of tarzan looking like a lovely elf, pretty awesome. I saw you the first time today and I have to say that you should have an own TV Channel. You do the job with love and dedication, it´s magic to see what you are doing there. loving it. Keep rollin girl and the very best wishes from germany. Stay healthy. Rob
Wow - these types of innovative and creative crafts would have made the show so much more interesting!! Such a strange choice that the editors made, to only focus on starvation, it gets a little boring. And to see all the interesting things that you were doing, and surely some of the other folks were doing cool things too. Survival is so much more than just catching animals.
Hi lady. I stumbled upon your channel and I'm loving it! I'm still playing catch up with all the videos. I'd watched every season every episode of Alone and you're just amazing! Can't wait to watch more of you here. Just curious were you able to collaborate with Leatherman for a "modified" tool for sale? I'd love to purchase one as you've made it much more useful than a stock version. Ty for all the videos! You rock girl!
Hey woniya! Craft nerd here. I am super interested in your rabbit rope and scarf. Was it warp and weft technique? What people made these? I can't find any info online! Such a great way to make the most of the rabbit hide, I bark tanned one recently and it's just soooo thin! So much gratitude for you and the wisdom your sharing x
try "survival skills of the paiute". I first heard about if as a Paiute technique. Mors Kochanski writes about it in his book "Bushcraft" but i used a technique more similar to the Paiute, twining around the rabbit rope with cordage instead of weaving the rope directly
they pull down all of the shelters, they used to show all of them taken down in the early seasons, but on Season 6 they showed just mine, i think to emphasize the e sense of home I built there, but who knows why they do what they do.
@@BuckskinRevolution Oh ok, I haven't seen any of the other episodes. I didn't even know the show existed until i found your channel while looking up how to to make buckskin haha.
snowshoe hare skins are so thin they are considered almost impossible to tan, that's why the rabbit rope instead of tanned hides. the skin is not tanned first, just fleshed well then cut in a spiral to make a long thin rope to weave with
