This movie was smile-inducing to me. Timothée Chamalet was fantastic, the villains were extremely over the top but I found them to be entertaining as well. Paul King brought so much charm, energy, and charism to the screen through his direction. Hugh Grant stole the show despite having limited screen time and the musical sequences were a lot of fun! Not my favourite of the year by any means, but I found it incredibly delightful and I had a great time with it. Great review!
I saw it on Christmas and really enjoyed it! It was a simple light hearted film that showed Wonka had some magic powers which explains the later film sort of!
1:02 Hmmm...maybe the story of how Willy became Wonka is not a story that can be told with only one film. Maybe Paul King will have a second Wonka film story to tell us after Paddington 3 in Peru, to show how Willy Wonka eventually became a jaded recluse with no one to trust, but still holds out hope that one day he can find another innocent kid he can trust to learn how to run his chocolate business the correct way, the same way he trusted Noodle to help him start it up, and we know he eventually finds that in Charlie Bucket.
