In 1966 and 1967, Wood Brothers Racing owned and fielded a Modified that Donnie Allison drove to victory at Martinsville Speedway. Now, 56 years later, that same car and Allison are returning to Martinsville Speedway to lead the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour field to the green flag this Thursday night before the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 200. #nascarroots

LOVED the coupes! Back then, NASCAR’s modified rule book mandated that these cars have the front fenders on them. It’s hilarious to see photos from back then and how far some teams cut the fenders down! This 21 car has about the biggest ones I’ve seen from those days. One sweet ride! William Mason, a car builder right down the road from the Wood Bros. shop, built many a sweet looking modified also! Those days are sadly far in the rear view mirror………..
