I love big decks. You can do it.

Deck! Gravel will stick to wet feet and then end up in your tub. Sounds like a pain 😅

Super impressed. I've enjoyed all of your videos and I'm appreciative of the time and energy you've put into them. The sauna is solid gold! Gravel is the right move I believe. I think it's good to always question the desire to impose more onto the environment (especially one that is clearly very loved). The natural world, and our relationship to it, is enhanced when we resist that desire and leave it wild

I agree with this so much. There is nothing quite like untouched nature. I hope to keep the land as wild as I can while making it accessible for enjoyement.

Very nice! Are you able to use this pumping system in the winter months?
@JonathanKuhn
@JonathanKuhn 8 месяцев назад
We pull the pump out in the winter since a portion of the pipe would freeze. We just drop a pump in with a hose in the winter
@kozakpau

@@JonathanKuhn is there no way to heat that portion of the pipe in the winter with some sort of heat trace? Do you still drain it the same way in the winter as the summer or do you remove the pipe system in the winter?
@JonathanKuhn
@JonathanKuhn 8 дней назад
@kozakpau I remove the pipe on the winter. Most cottagers seem to do that with their lake source water pipes. The risk with a heat trace (especially off grid) is losing power and the pipe gets damaged. I’ve seen some intricate winter solutions that use compressed air to flush water from the pipe after every use but this would be for a cottage water system likely. In the winter I just auger a hole and drop a pump in with a hose. It works fine but isn’t as turnkey.

A cool $8k for that tub, though...

Great video and ideas. Any thoughts on how you will handle winter fills without pipes freezing?

Hi Eric. I’m the winter I’ve just got a hole in the ice and dropped in an AC pump and hose with a generator. It works for the times we use it in the winter. There are solutions for year round lake water but we will try and just go with what we have for now.

This is awesome! We've got a cabin (@thenorthpinecabin) in the Adirondacks and are currently shopping Goodland's hot tubs. A pump solution like this seems perfect for our eventual needs! Do you happen to have a pump build instruction video?
@JonathanKuhn
@JonathanKuhn 2 года назад
Your cabin looks so nice! Such a nice spot! I’m obsessed with our goodland tub. We get a ton of use out of it especially now that filling is so turn key. I’ve got a code you can use to get $250 off accessories with the purchase of a tub if you are interested (FINDPAUSE-JK). I don’t have a specific tutorial for the pump build but I’m happy to answer any questions. The basics of it are: Submersible pump, check valve, y split into the drain of the tub with the other part of the “y” acting as the drain with a bal valve on it. Are you interested in the timing electronics part?

@@JonathanKuhn Hey! I am super close to a stream and was thinking of pumping fresh water into my off grid tub. I live in a cold climate and was curious if you keep the water filled during the winter, or do you drain after each use?

@@JonathanKuhn HI Jonathan, can you provide more details about the pump? We are wanting to pump creek water directly into our wood fired hot tub and we are off the grid. Thanks! Judith (Kangaroo Valley, Australia)
@JonathanKuhn
@JonathanKuhn Год назад
The pump was advertised as a 400w 12v pump that has a high flow. It looks exactly like the red one on the Australia Amazon listed “ZYIY 12 V DC Submersible Pump 250 W”. I put a amp meter on ours and the starting current makes it about 400w but it settles to around 250w. I have it running on a single 100w solar panel on a 90amp hour lead acid battery
