Wow, super awesome review. I've been looking into various options for a woodburning hot tub but often get hit with ads. Clearly this is a good product, I like that you mentioned 4 adults is no problem. I just WISH they would make one twice as wide. Thanks for the video!
@JonathanKuhn
@JonathanKuhn Год назад
Thanks! I think they are working on a wider version based on their Instagram stories. For reference though we are small people but we often chose to sit on the same side for the view of the lake (and because our kid is thrashing and diving around on the other side ha)

Good video, Jonathan ... thanks for sharing. I hope to build my own cedar hot tub later this year and it's good to hear your tips. That butane torch/lighter is a great idea.

Good tip for timing the filling. It made me think of another (better?) idea, you can buy an off the shelf toilet floater (the thing that stops when the reservoir is filled) and connect that!
@JonathanKuhn
@JonathanKuhn 9 месяцев назад
That was my original thought but the pump I am using is good at applying a large volume of water at lower pressure so the pipe reduction of a fill valve like that would likely slow the fill time a lot. I love a mechanical solution though!

Do you empty every night and refill every day in the winter? Thinking about it freezing overnight some nights
@michaelcondon6396
@michaelcondon6396 9 месяцев назад
Thanks for the video. Do you have to drain after each use in the winter to avoid freezing? How do you deal with that?
@JonathanKuhn
@JonathanKuhn 9 месяцев назад
Depending on the temperature you could leave it for a day or two. We drain it because we don’t stay the night. I’ve tested it though and with the cover on it didn’t freeze solid or anything. It’s best to use a stock tank heater to keep it from freezing if you can in the winter.

Hey bud, this seems like a great and awesome alternative to a traditional jacuzzi. But I got 2 questions? What do you do in the winter time of the water freezes up? And can it ever get too hot in there? Say if you fill the fire box and it’s too much
@JonathanKuhn
@JonathanKuhn 10 месяцев назад
The property is remote so we just drain it before we leave in the winter. If you had power available you could drop a stock tank heater in it to keep it above freezing. We’ve only gotten it too hot for comfort a couple times. It’s really easy to avoid as you get used to it. If it gets to hot just add water or ice/snow
@andrewyang1446
@andrewyang1446 Год назад
A great tub! Was considering a circular one until I saw this. I have two questions if you don’t mind: 1 What’s the average temperature like once the fire gets going? 2 What’s the make or where did you buy this? Thank you in advance and thanks for the video!
@JonathanKuhn
@JonathanKuhn Год назад
The company that makes this is called Goodland. You can find them at hellogoodland.com. We like to soak at around 105f but it’s often in the area of around 95f when the kiddo is splashing about in it.

How hot does the water get compared to an electric hot tub? Any trouble with it getting too hot?
@JonathanKuhn
@JonathanKuhn Год назад
The first couple times we used it we got it past 105F. We added some snow and ice those times. It’s pretty easy to maintain temperature with the firebox lid after a few tries. We got used to maintaining the temperature pretty quickly.

Where did u buy it from? I saw some ads of the chinese one from alibaba, are they any good? And how much wood in lb u need to burn to keep it up for an hour?
@JonathanKuhn
@JonathanKuhn 3 месяца назад
Unfortunately the one you are referring to look like a copy attempt. This tub is designed and made in North America. I can’t speak to the alibaba one. This one heats up in about 3 armload of wood and takes hardly any wood at all to maintain the temp.

How do you treat your water. We’ve been told 35% peroxide
@JonathanKuhn
@JonathanKuhn 10 месяцев назад
We don’t treat ours at all since we have basically an unlimited supply of fresh water. We just fill and drain often using solar energy.
@HRradness
@HRradness Год назад
So I assume in the winter you fill and drain after each use?
@JonathanKuhn
@JonathanKuhn Год назад
We do yeah because we only day trip to the lake in the winter for now. But if you use the tub you can leave the water in and use it the next day even in the winter.
@HRradness

@@JonathanKuhn thanks for the quick reply. My wife wants a commercial tub that uses electricity and has to be wired but I want this particular tub for....obvious reasons;) I'll show her this video it's very helpful because the company is new and I had no idea if it's any good or not. Thanks again!
@JonathanKuhn
@JonathanKuhn Год назад
Its a pretty amazing tub. It should outlast a an electric tub a number of times over. You can use that as a selling point 😄
@patfal1514
@patfal1514 9 месяцев назад
@@HRradness Even a medium size tub increased my electric bill considerably.Can only imagine one of the big ones... Propane might be a good alternative fuel if you're in an area where wood smoke might cause complaints. If one was used daily keeping it hot shouldn't be an issue.
@boatburnerice7925
@boatburnerice7925 5 месяцев назад
the question I have...what if you leave the water in it and the tub freezes...or do you have to drain it everytime.
@JonathanKuhn
@JonathanKuhn 5 месяцев назад
If we used the tub that day we will leave the cover on overnight and the water doesn’t freeze. We don’t leave the water in for days on end with very cold temps and we will just drain and refill most times in the winter since we aren’t staying overnight here often.
@tomasengelbrechtsen
@tomasengelbrechtsen 5 месяцев назад
Does the water never gets too hot? If not, how can that be?
@JonathanKuhn
@JonathanKuhn 5 месяцев назад
It’s only happened a couple times. It gets really easy to manage the fire for a great temp. In the summer we can flip a switch to add water to cool it down and in the winter can we use snow or ice.
@Gizzard4400
@Gizzard4400 7 месяцев назад
Do you dump the water everytime
@JonathanKuhn
@JonathanKuhn 7 месяцев назад
Depends on the lake water quality or season. Mid summer we drain it every time pretty much. It’s low effort though with the automated pump and quick draining.

How do you keep your pipes from freezing in the winteR?
@JonathanKuhn
@JonathanKuhn Год назад
We pulled out the permanent lake pump in the fall and just drop in a submersible pump in the winter and remove it.
