These are just brilliant! I've been looking for a set up like this. I could have made one but the bottom wouldn't have been as strong and steady. I'm in the us and I just can't find these anywhere!! lol.. another reason to live in Australia.. besides my good friend who lives there. =] If anyone knows of a place here in the US please let me know. Thanks!! edited to add.. the closest we get here in the US is the Breeze system and with that you have to buy a bunch of stuff I'd never even use so it's just wasteful. I can't help but laugh at the use of yet another plastic item to collect the urine. o_o

I don't have a solution for poop, unfortunately. I try to remove as soon as I can. I also have the litter boxes in a furniture with a curtain in front; it limits a bit the smell... One of my cat is not covering its poop so yeah, it's not nice 😞

With urine there is no smell, with poop there is a smell but most people remove any poop from the litter box as soon as it is spotted or sniffed.

My only issue with using pine pellets is that you have to have one box per cat and even then, you have to remove their poop ASAP because they might not pee inside it and will pee on the floor next to the box. This is probably why it's not a popular pet store item.
@justinpenn9250
@justinpenn9250 3 года назад
From what I see/hear on RU-vid- they advise having 2 litter boxes per cat. I believe the guy on animal planet says cats like to pee and poop in different boxes. They should be in different rooms that the cats have “control” over if possible. I think they said the number of cat litter boxes = # of cats plus 1. So one cat would have 2, 2 cats 3, etc.
@frostflower5555
@frostflower5555 3 года назад
I never had a problem with 2 cats and one large litter box with clay - my space was limited. But problem started with the wood pellets so I had no choice but to get two boxes. I won't go back to clay though.
@mizzle8
@mizzle8 2 года назад
Can you explain further? Why do pine pellets cause the cats to not poop in the same box as the pee? I had this issue as well (my cat would pee but not poop in the box) and had to switch to another type of litter, but I wonder if what you're saying was the issue. Does having 2 boxes solve the issue and do you put them next to each other?

@florettedeparis
@florettedeparis 5 лет назад
Hi Susan, I put 1/2 scoop of pellets in the bottom pan to absorb the cat’s urine. The pellets do not absorb liquid straight away; when kitty is peeing, it passes from the top sieve tray to the bottom tray.

I tested this system with water. Liquid travels to the bottom pan before it can get absorbed by the pellets. Do you have this problem?
@florettedeparis
@florettedeparis 3 года назад
I did that experience too 😊 ; it’s the expected behaviour actually. This is why you will need to add a handful of pellets in the bottom tray. If the liquid was absorbed at the top, it would smell. The pellets take a few seconds to fall into ‘dust’; each time you shake to tray, a bit of sawdust falls down and it helps to absorb the urine.. (that’s what I figured 🤷‍♀️)

Hi Dan, switching to wood pellet could definitely help your cat as the tracking is minimal... I put a bit of wood pellet in the bottom tray to absorb the first wees... the pellets take a few seconds to absorb the liquid; when the cat wees, it goes straight in the bottom tray. Then when you shake the tray every day, more sawdust falls in the bottom tray, which helps to absorb more wee.

Putting a scoop at the bottom serves zero purpose in a tray when the above section is used. Why waste the scoop? I've found it more economical to use only a few ( 3 cups?) scoops, no tray system and let it go. I've been amazed actually how far that can go...i realised watching these videos thinking they are wasting the product. Little, more often goes a lot longer way. Love the product but I saw this video as an excuse to get people to buy more...reduce your amount - you'll see...

I put in a quarter to a 5th of the amounts seen in this video..that last's ages...don't buy the whole marketing ploy...use what your cat needs...this will become apparent...when it breaks down it's still very effective litter, don't immediately throw out all the sawdust its still very viable. Until it stinks... you'll know...No complaints at all from my cat! My next litter will last a lot longer as I realised many of the companies want us to buy more...
@florettedeparis
@florettedeparis 3 года назад
The first time I tried this litter I didn’t buy the tray with sieve. It works, but personally I prefer with the sieve system because the wet sawdust is isolated from the dry pellets. Also the dry pellets on top act like a odor barrier. The manufacturer instructions is to put a handful of pellet in the bottom tray. If you don’t and shake the tray after your cat pees, it splashes everywhere if you shake the box, until enough soiled sawdust travels through the sieve...

doesnt work that way for every cat. my cat hates it when it becomes sawdust and she will refuse to use it and instead look for other places to pee. i cant get horse bedding where i live so i have to unfortunately get wood pellets specifically for cat litter and it starts to smell after four/five days, but she will already try and find a different place to pee before that because i dont think she likes the feeling of the sawdust. sifting prevents the smell and the prevents my cat from searching for other spaces to pee.

You have to consider the circumstances of each and everyone before judging; the maintenance and the smell of the litter box are some of the complaints of cat owners. I used to be a foster carer for rescued cats, having many cats cost a lot of money, so saving money - and time - are my 'circumstances'.
