Well Broseph wood pellets are difficile get going and the reason why is because it’s very dense and compressed wood dust it’s almost like trying to ignite a full log. The amount you have put is not a problem, I have filled my firebox completely and it works. I have tested differents methods and here are few of my favorites: 1- having some pellets soaked into lighter fluid or Coleman gas, then I keep them into and hermetic containers and I put them on top for ignition 2- using pine resin that I put on top, once ignited it melts and enrobes some wood pellets to get them going 3- using wood shavings from carving projects to ignite a small fire on top of the wood pellets, the embers and coals will ignite those pellets You also have to be patient it takes about 5 to 10 minutes to get them really engaged but after you are good for a 35 to 45 minutes burning time without any need to add fuel. Usually I use that time to boil water and cook veggies then when they are turn into a great bed of coals you are good to grill a good piece of meat😉 Hope my tips can help you my PBC brother, I really like your video because it reminds me all the frustration in the beginning with those wood pellets. But once you get the trick with those you will really enjoy their fantastic efficiency 👊👍🤟🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Lighter fluid ,lamp oil works

I think i'd shy a away from lamp oil for the same reason you don't cook food directly over pine wood. But but maybe try a cooking oil?

When I use wood pellets, I douse them with alchohol, and use lint and fatwood shavings or a tumbleweed to start and I'm off to the races... Wood pellets will burn for a good while. I fill my firebox and they all burn. Just douse them with meths, alchohol or bbq lighter fluid. Great video Broseph! 😎👍 Cheers - Luther

HellToTheYeah i thank you 😊 getting going off to the start with a good fire 🔥 has worked that best . Your input is one of them Thank you 😊

Those pellets are a bugger to get going. I've played with them a bit. Like you discovered, you pretty much need to add them to a good flame base. The pellets themselves really don't flame up much. I think I took a couple of tea lights and lit them on the bottom, put some gauze or cotton balls with some Vaseline and with pellets on top. Let it burn from the bottom up. I've also used a good squirt or two of hand sanitizer and stirred it in a little bit. Something I've been wanting to try, using and empty to tube, placing it in the middle with pellets around it. Fill the tube with cotton balls and small tinder to get a good flame going. Keep trying buddy!👍 I'll try to pull mine out and play around with it some too see if I can come up with an easy working combination. 🔥👍😎🧀

@@BrosephRussell Never tried with pellets, but you might try lighting a charcoal briquet and add the pellets around it with a few on top of it. One thing for sure it should bake a potato pretty good with all the coals.

Oh yeah a bake tater my favorite 😋 yes that will work great

Way to be determined brother. You never gave up on making it happen. My take on the pellets might be that it requires a more intensified flame to get it going. So the initial fire from below at the ash pan maybe the best bet for the transfer. Just needs to be strong as mentioned. When there are walls around a fire, it will head up or down. That Black and White Firestarter isn't steel wool is it? Never seen that one before.
@BrosephRussell
@BrosephRussell 2 года назад
Yes maybe the trick from bottom with more flamage and that blackandwhite fire starter is jute twine with stuff on it and i think more of that on top and i mean alot it could have worked 😀

Surprised by how hard it was to light. I use cat litter in my Biolite and Firebox gen 2 and it lights really well with Fire dragon gel firestarter. Other option I’ve find is build a small top down fire on top of the fire pellets using any firestarter you have to hand. Once lit I get a good solid burn of about 45 minutes.
@BrosephRussell
@BrosephRussell 2 года назад
45 minutes WOW 👏 😍 That is awesome. Yeah i think me not having a good top fire going first was definitely my problem oh and that jell stuff i remember my uncle used it with the pellet stove fire place. Than you for the awesome idea's and comment .

I wonder if the pellets are hard to light because they were made for smoke not flame. You did get alot of smoke near the start. Maybe a stack of vaseline cotton balls or fatwood down the center and lit from the bottom would coax the pellets into flame. I'd like to see your next experiments with them. You're learning for all of us. Thanks.
@BrosephRussell

Yes that may work . I was also thinking if i left the middle of the pellets with a Leaving a divit in the middle of it may help with starting it i shall try some of these suggestions Thank you 😊

Looks like you got all the advice from others, so I won't chime in. But a great way to use your stove... heat for hours! #keepitburning Brother!

I saw some pellets on clearance somewhere but i don’t use em in anything. Guess I should have got em and tried em. As far as soaking them in something to help burn them I’d say some moonshine. Because it wouldn’t hurt the flavor of the smoke and sure would start up good.
@BrosephRussell

I actually got these on discount for it being ripped bag HellToTheYeah. Well moonshine would definitely work Thank you 😊

if those pellets or chips were meant to be used in s smoker they may not have been dried long enough to use as fuel

not supposed to put that top grill grate on when the fire is that hot (Firebox says it will damage it). Also, it's for grilling meats, not supporting a cup---just use the fire rods to support a cup, thanks for vid
