I have the same craftsman belt sander any hints on keeping the belt lined up

scott johnson The Snyder had a couple bolts on each side, they look similar but the lower height bolts lock the position and the double height bolts are your adjusters. Loosen the lock bolts on each side, then with the sander on slowly turn the adjuster (double height) bolt on one side and watch the belt, turning the adjuster bolt to center the sanding belt so it tracks evenly in the middle. It may take a little fine tuning, adjusting the knobs on both sides. But once it's tracking centered, tighten the locking bolts and that should do it. Hope that helps Scott! Thanks for watching, Tom

Great idea! I'm making some "rustic" signs for a friend and this may work for the distressing I'd like to add to the surface.

Gdogbert That sounds like a great idea...you will know for sure with a small pre-test piece. Hope it goes well! Thank you, Tom

Thom spillane Thanks Thom! Yes, I do love the effect and considering the wide open design possibilities. In the past I have also seen this effect achieved by scorching the wood surface with a soft flame blow torch followed by brushing the ash away...but that technique had its obvious risks 🙂 And then of course sand-blasting will do the trick, but a lot messier than the wire brush! Thanks again, Tom
